    really like the direction Comic is going. I realize that committing to a project like this takes many hours and days and months to complete but they still have a lot to do before this can be used as a completed desktop. I will try it again in a couple of months. Looking forward to a completed desktop mean while I will stay with XFCE yes the old reliable desktop with no surprises every thing just works.

      uhmm software is not up to linux developers, game devs have to develop games to work on linux, just like they have to develop them to work on mac, windows and consoles. Wine, proton and other alternatives are for software/games that didnt do that for N reasons.

    No appindicator. No server side decorations. Gnome is still broken by design. I love the looks. But I am just tired of getting stuff that isn't necessary while the most important stuff remains broken. Broken interface in smaller screens seems to be addressed. File manager still crashes every single window if you remove a directory that is currently open on it.

    Did I miss Mouse Wheel Scroll lines? I hate it in all Linux desktops, It's either too fast or too slow to scroll with the mouse wheel, and KDE Plasma have no easy way to adjust it. Haven't used Gnome for a while, and this is a Gnome fork? Kinda stupid and awkward that we still don't have an easy way to just fix such a simple thing... I'm talking for the desktop, not browsers/software where it is easily fixed, at least for browsers.

Just got the hang of btrfs system and zram plus wayland working alot better with the gpu too. Gnome 42 changing to dark and light modes does not reach that balance and you must match legacy theme with new Adwaita theme windows just look terrible. After Accent Colors maybe the ability to change the windows title bar colors will come. Alot of apps are coming with the ability to change too. Step in a good direction

      Exactly, its impressive for what it is, but i expected it to take a long time to be polished. I tried it and found it unusable for me atm. And i had to switch from Pop OS to Linux Mint with gnome 😥 as Pop OS felt just too old for me now. After using Pip OS for almost 8 years...

    • @GsMultiverse
      @GsMultiverse Місяць тому

      @sheldonkupa9120 yeah any alpha wouldn't be usable. Even a beta shouldn't be used when you're doing serious work. It's unfair to want to switch to it and use it now. Companies don't release their Alpha versions to the public so they never get to know, I'm happy System76 released and it's becoming a community effort in going from an Alpha to a final release.

    • @GsMultiverse
      @GsMultiverse Місяць тому

      @sheldonkupa9120 I also agree that after the launch of GNOME 40 and seeing the recent advancements in Cinnamon, the old GNOME desktop that we fell in love with seems outdated. And I firmly believe COSMIC would do a fantastic job when it eventually does release.

      I like the GNOME based desktop too, but why do you say Pop OS 22.04 became obsolete? I still use it to this day and it has the latest kernel, latest software packages and stuff.

    • @sheldonkupa9120
      @sheldonkupa9120 Місяць тому

      Yeah same, Pop OS is really a bit behind with the software versions it uses. After almost 8 years of using it, i switched to Linux Mint with gnome. I liked how Pop OS modified gnome and that made me use gnome exclusively.

    • @GsMultiverse
      @GsMultiverse Місяць тому

      Yeah me too. I mean, yeah some of the things can get a little old, but I'm thankful they update the kernel very frequently and the software from the latest gnome versions is included as well.

    • @konradzuse4778
      @konradzuse4778 Місяць тому

      @@GsMultiverse Really? Interesting. Maybe I should give it another try. However, our needs may differ, as I am a software developer and like to have relatively recent libraries. Flatpak does not help me with that, and pip (for python) is not really what I like to be the ruling package manager on my own system. But I have to admit that I jumped ship when Ubuntu 22.10 was released and it became clear that Pop!_OS wouldn't follow suit with that update.

    • @GsMultiverse
      @GsMultiverse Місяць тому

      @konradzuse4778 okay if you're a software developer and if you need the latest packages then probably not. Something like Fedora would be much more aligned to your needs.

    How to hide top bar?The color of the top bar is always inconsistent with the application. I prefer to hide the top bar automatically, but Gnome47 does not seem to support it.

      There's an extension called Just Perfection that allows you to hide the top panel. You might be interested in Dash to Panel as well.

    The accent colors are partly implemented. It does not change the accent of buttons in most apps.

      This is a shortcoming of the programs, not of GNOME itself. The desktop has implemented the FreeDesktop accent colors protocol, so any program that is properly configured for this can now use these colors.

      @@henriquepicanco97 That's a cop out. The custom accent colors extension, which works with the same exact protocol actually does what I describe.

    I like the new terminal, it very much reminds me iterm2 for Mac

    The old Gnome terminal was replaced for a new GTK4 terminal named Ptyxis, it's really good. It's still called 'Terminal' inside the environment for consistency, but it's a completely new application. The theming options are especially nice i think.

      It is going to stay. Gnome is still one of the easier and most cohesive desktops envs out there. It could be so much better if they just stopped doing stupid stuff. No Appindicator is a broken state. It is broken. That is final. Not using it is stupid, and it is better to use an in imperfect solution than no solution. They are so stupidly opinionated on useless stuff that it is frustrating. I want a cohesive desktop with the gnome design, but that does stuff in a practical way.

    Nice overview! I appreciate the way you showed off some of the visual changes. Not all of the changes have screenshots easily available online, so thanks for that. In case you're curious what Kerberos is: it's the single-sign-on (SSO) authentication protocol used in Microsoft Active Directory, among other things. If you're a student at school or a corporate employee, you probably have a global username/password provided to you, with which you can log into any Windows PC on the network and immediately get access all your network drives, system settings, etc. If you want to perform the same SSO actions on a Linux PC, then GNOME's Kerberos support should have you covered. Hope this is helpful.
