Fanny: the Reprise Years
United States
Приєднався 20 січ 2015
Fanny was the first all-female rock band signed to a major record label with a multi-album deal. Recording four albums from 1970 to 1973 under the Reprise Records label with famed producers Richard Perry and Todd Rundgren, Fanny was a tour de force in rock ‘n’ roll music. Relive all of the great music of this phenomenal ‘70s band. Original members include Nickey Barclay, keyboards, Alice de Buhr, drums, Jean Millington, bass, and June Millington, guitar.
The Way It Was: January 6, 1971
From Alice:
I’m turning 75 this year, and while I’ve always said my “sappy” journal pages would never see the light of day, my vanity is much more in the rear window… so, I figured, what the hell? Why not?
The Way It Was: January 6, 1971
I didn’t remember that we’d started playing “Young & Dumb” this early in our time together, but I am SO glad we did. I loved playing that song. Nickey’s “Place in the Country” was another favorite of mine and a bitch to play, but I’m proud of what we all chose to play to make this song so special.

Snippets of the sound check by Fanny at the Whisky a Go Go on May 17th, 2023. This was in the afternoon before the evening performance. This was shot with a cell phone so the sound and video quality isn't the best, but it at least captures the moment.

Geeesus, why hadn't I heard of this band when they first came out? They are fabulous musicians playing great music (both originals and covers). June simply destroys all the pretenders on guitar and is up there with Clapton and Hendrix in talent. My record collection would have had all their albums if I had known about them.
You listen to these amazing ladies and then you understand why bands like the Stones have always been so basic and boring in sound.
I lke the Badge version better than the original and that is just me, but I think Cream would be honore
Try looking up The Quatro sisters and their band "The Pleasure Seekers " They were out 4 years b 4 Fanny and yes Patti Quatro played with Fanny off and on for many years aka a life time.
How I wish all the live performances were on DVD,I might even be happy with whatever is on UA-cam performances being put together on DVD,I can't stop watching them, Fanny I absolutely love you!!!!!
Camerman doesnt know the difference between the bass and 6 string
…got a Steve Marriott trip to it!!!!
You can't listen to just 1 of their songs, their habit forming
I love this group. I'd like to know why how come the drum face has Sonny and Cher instead of the band name. That would've been great promotion
LONG LIVE real RnR!!
Hey Alice - Am quite sure I'm not the only one who would be interested in reading your take on the confusion surrounding Fanny's trip through the music biz in the '70s. Just check Janis Joplin's "Days and Summers Scrapbook 1966-68"
Love you girls❤
trail blazers, signed as a novelty act by executives who hadn't even seen them. great musicians, their stuff gets better with age.
Alice’s drumming gives me goosebumps.
Thanks for posting this bit of music history. Being a musician and trained historian, I find this primary source material very interesting. Thanks again!
Alice....holy smokes...Thanks.
PURE BLISS !!!
Love you all girls
This is awesome
I just love the 70's sound of hard rock! This is great band. I do wish they had been promoted better.
One of the greatest songs ever off the 'Goodbye Cream' album; they are just taking it further
Fanny Rock It is a travesty they were kept from Us Wtf … as a woman in her 50s and only “discovered” about 5 years ago FUCKING TRAVESTY
Pure Energy Rock and Kick-Ass Roll!
I have absolutely LOVED these ladies since I first heard them sometime back in 1972. I hightly respect and admire them and their music. No breasts or butt buns hanging out, just pure, raw talent. So glad to see they still have it and still "Rockin' in the New World"!!! Keep on keepin' on June and Jean !!!
Nicki doing well on this one good backups vocal. Great piano
