I found (hopefully) a more permanent solution on windows (sorry mac/others) search and open: windows powershell cd to C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox run command: .\vboxmanage modifyvm <uuid|vmname> --acpi off and .\vboxmanage modifyvm <uuid|vmname> --ioapic off where <uuid|vmname> is the name of the vm, mine was Metasploitable2 and it was case sensitive so the full command was .\vboxmanage modifyvm Metasploitable2 --acpi off hopefully that helps.
