Travelling to far off places in Australia on my Ducati Desert X and taking some photos along the way.
- Join me as I get the bike ready once again to take on another trip across Australia. This time I will be traveling up to Byron Bay NSW, starting at the most easterly point on mainland Australia, and heading west across the outback, visiting remote areas such as Innamincka, Birdsville, Alice Springs, Uluru, before tackling the Great Central Road into Western Australia where I will head for Steep Point WA, the most western point of mainland Australia. Then heading south into Perth, before once again heading home except this time along the Nullabor and taking in the sights.

Two weeks to go before I set off chasing the sun across Australia. With still lots to do and unsure if the new suspension will arrive in time it's a matter of lots of changes in organisation. Also another massive rain storm has hit the north of the country and the outback, which will possibly change the route I need to take.

Upgraded pannier racks and panniers for the upcoming trip, although its not what I was after and there are a few issues.

After all the modifications I have made on this bike, something has finally broken. Also thanks to Darren Cook from Ride360 for working out a fix to the clutch slave cylinder issue when installing larger chains on the bike. www.ride360.com.au/

A quick overnight trip up to Craigs Hut, Through Healsville, Bonnie Doon, and Mansfield. Had a slight issue with the clutch lever but nothing zip ties cant fix. Before Camping at Grannys Flat near Jamieson before heading along the Jamieson-Licola Rd the next day.

In this video I make a mount for the drone controller so I am able to connect it to the Quad lock mount and hopefully all goes to plan for the upcoming trip.

The correct front sprocket has arrived, its time to get that fitted along with the new chain and replace the front brake pads. I also have a little chat about the channel.

Before I set off on another big trip I though it would be a good idea to at least carry out the 20,000km maintenance. The chain definitely needed replacing and you should do sprockets at the same time. Lets just say things should have gone way easier for such an easy straight forward task. But no, even after getting the parts off I find the new parts are not suitable.

The clutch push rod is a specific length. The slave cylinder pushes the rod to allow the clutch to release the frictions and steels to a set tolerance and clearance. This is important on a wet clutch. Adding some shit washers from bunnings reduces the travel of the rod and the ability of the clutch pack to open, reduces the clearance between frictions and steels and the capacity for oil to flow between the plates when the pack is open. This is a dumb idea to say the least. Suggesting that ducati consider doing it is beyond stupid. Not to mention the possibility of getting contamination between the now two seperated surfaces and loosing engine oil from the now unrestrained push rod seal as there is crankcase pressure there. The idea of packing the slave cylinder out is dumb and dangerous. You should have measured the thickness of your oem chain before going out and buying any old 525 chain. There are various tensile strength chains for the given pitch and had you shopped smarter you would have found a correct width chain with superior properties to the oem one. Get those washers out now, both of you 😊
@ronytyman6557 Have you actually taken yours off to have a look? You cant lose engine oil. There is a seal in place arount the pushrod. Or didnt you see that part of the video. Just did 10,000km across the desert and back and is fine. Clutch was even checked by Ducati when I got to Perth and everything is fine. So if it dosent have anything to do with you, why are you getting so upset?
@koalakoncepts yes I have, yes there is, your crankcase has positive pressure. That's why it has a seal. Packing the slave out is a silly idea. I'm not upset though. I think it's a bit obsurd that you are giving this advice to others who may be as uneducated as yourself and also making recommendations to ducati to implement your washer ghetto repair which will lead to further problems. Show me the ducati dealership endorsement of the ghetto fix please...

@koalakoncepts I'd like to see your degree in mechanical engineering it's pretty obvious when you can't operate a chain breaker, and remove the chain before loosening the sprocket nut. Things are happening by accident with you. I just hope you don't cause someone else to have an accident with your shitty advice.
