the guy on the right sounds as though he is down a well, not good compared to the doctor fellow
Had total femoral neurprexia and could not lift my leg and foot for 6 months. Can now walk with a brace after 18 months.
Does he kept playing with tore ACL??
16/20, the surgeon told my dad 1/20 only last week.
6 months post surgery with very minor pain. I walk 8 to 10k steps / day, cycle on the weekends and go to the gym 3x a week. I live a short walk from the ocean, so I swim frequently. But I have to be careful with rip currents and the surf, as it can twist you around! In summary, so far so good on the way to full recovery!
Oh my goodness, this story hits home, i am 43 with severe hip oa and have 3 kids under 3 years old...my 2.5 year old took off out of our yard and I quickly realized that I could not run after him...i thought with adrenaline rush, I could just get through the pain, but my legs physically would not cooperate, I sort of skipped dragging one leg behind, so demoralizing and humiliating, I need to be able to take care of my kids, its not safe! I changed my diet and the pain has decreased drastically, however, I still never know if I will be able to make it around the block and I just got a cortisone shot 4 days ago and am in more pain than before, hip feels bruised and I woke up in excruciating pain yesterday, I normally dont have pain sleeping, have maintained my pregnancy sleep position of propped up on back with pillow under my knees....i know it can take up to two weeks for a cortisone shot to work and that it can cause these flare-ups, surgeon wanted me to get one, idea being that if it helps we will know that the hip replacement will give relief, making sure pain isn't coming from other places like my back i guess....i dont know what to do...just want to be able to be there for my kids now and the next 20 years... only fear is that it won't provide the relief I want or expect and stop the limping....so scared; grateful for content around younger peoples experience with total hip replacement!
I had my first (right) hip replacement 6 years ago and recovered really well, and quickly. Pretty much pain free after first two weeks and off sticks completely within 8 weeks. BUT I had a second THR (Left) 7 weeks ago and its a very different situation. Horrible pain on standing or walking and need sticks even in the house. Left hip and leg extremely weak and I can't put any weight on it. Everything I look at online says people should be back to all normal activities within 6 weeks which is very demoralising.
Good for you. Hope you read this.
Very informative and Sunny was spot on with 7 month summary. I'm also 7 months post Hip replacement and I'm practically pain free , just a little throbbing now and then after a long walk.
Had my left hip replaced April 16th, no pain at any time but my lower calf just one side is numb to my foot, but I am walking my dogs driving and doing my house renovation, my leg is weak but that's largely down to lack of pirates or gym or swimming.
18 months since total hip replacement. Rt. leg is weak, lower leg and foot 80% numb with foot drop. Sciatic nerve damage from surgery. No recovery .
He actually came back from 2 acls he ruptured his othe acl in the summer of 1998 during a pre season tournament
I have a nerve discomfort down to the back my knee. More when i sit and lie on back and drive. Other than that, hip surgery (posterior was success) feels great. So much better
I had my surgery April 10th, I am in no pain at all, no need for cane or walker, however walking long time I get tired, I go back to work hopefully at the end of August. My surgeon did anterior, right now the top of my butt, after spinal anesthesia is still a little numb and my "love handle" area is still a bit numb....my sciatica is giving issues, not really painful but more so as annoying, my left calf feels like a cramp but it is not. It's all nerves, and my surgeon's assistant and my physical therapist both said that scar tissue has formed around the nerves and what I am experiencing usually happens around the 2nd or 3rd month....my therapist massages the butt down to my calf with hard pressure that sometimes makes me jump outta my skin....but it helps and I do my therapy at home, especially before bedtime to get everything moving as it should....leg lifts, knee bends, and stretches help. Prior to finding this out and getting therapy help I have been losing sleep and having to sleep in my recliner with legs up.....and the other annoying thing is my left leg is a little longer than my right....other than that I feel great!
Hello, I got a hip replacement 11 month ago (ceramic on ceramic). Since 4 month I notice a “crock crock” sound when I move my leg with the hip protesi to the side or to the front. The doctor says it is a tissue problem, not a problem of the replacement. I was looking for exercises to better the situation. Have you any idea? Thanks
From Canada: Broke my hip in a fall. Snapped off at the ball joint. Had a hip replacement the same day. Three months after the operation I slipped in the bathtub and after I researched the situation, concluded the Iliac bone had shifted. It was classified as a pelvic alignment issue. My operation was August 30, 2023 and I still have pain. The recommendation is that I seek out a manual therapist or chiropractor who can probably realign the problem. Will be seeing my family doctor to see what he thinks.
I've had 7 unexplained dislocations - not my "fault." After having additional hardware implanted to further stabilize, every dislocation requires surgery to put the ball in the socket. So, surgery may be required. They make it sound so easy
Great information
How to describe the indescribable 😊 As an AT practitioner, I appreciate this session.
Appreciate this informative and knowledgeable video. Thank you. As for me, pain is much less, 3.5 months after minimally invasive total hip replacement at Mt. Sinai, NYC. Some serious sciatica I was experiencing on that side's shin and ankle has also thankfully gone.
I had a hip replacement 7 months ago and today I am having sharp pains all of a sudden..
Really interesting and very helpful thank you.
This is EXACTLY what I am going through! I'm now using a cane. My hip issue stems from undiagnosed hip dysplasia. I was super active child, teen, worked 2 jobs as young adult, exercised daily and in the last 10 years worked as an Registered Nurse. It started with groin pain. Thought I pulled a muscle, put it off for months because I didn't want to be whiny. But finally I couldn't get my leg in my car and my limp was constant. Went to ortho had steroid injection, worked for 5 days and my pain increased more than before. Went through PT but most PT exercises did not suit my issues because it was truly a bone issue, but im doing pre op exercises to get ready for surgery. A lot of isometrics. Then the ortho ordered mri and was diagnosed with 4th degree cartilage loss, hip dysplasia, osteocytes, etc. Wrecked my self esteem, my self worth. I gained weight from not being able to work and the inability to not exercise like i did. So i cracked down and ate healthy, small meals, lots of water and protein and dropped 30lbs!! But as a mom and wife I lacked in my home duties. It is AWFUL!! But last week I finally got my surgery date MAY 1ST 2024. I'm in the U.S. and most of my friends are shocked that I'm getting this done. I'm going to document my journey starting on March 29th, that is my first day I have "hip replacement class". Thanks for posting this, I'm feeling pretty alone being 47 and from a small town where most hip replacements are done on 80 year olds. 😊
Watching at 3am.9 days after hip replacement..my body has forgotten what sleep is!
mine still hurts been about 3 years since surgery. I wish I had never had it done. Pain is way worse than before surgery .
I’m so glad that you posted this .. the chronic fatigue is beyond life altering.. I’m exhausted 24-7. I’m having serious IT band and scar tissue issues at the moment .. I’m only 4 months post RTHR and pray that things improve within the year
Two years after a hip break from a fall, I still have pain. Loss of energy and on-going pain have caused a dramatic change in my active life.
I had an anterior hip replacement last March and I'm doing wonderful no pain at all I think it was because it was the anterior and not the posterior replacement
Had a hip replacement 2.5 yrs ago and I have been in more pain ever since. X-rays and doc says everything is fine but I have been suffering everyday!!! I think its that Tendon you were talking about . Now my lower back and SI joint are horrible! I simply can’t take it anymore !
As a 41 year old with hip OA it’s extremely isolating and there is limited information/ support available for people in this age group 😢
13:09 nice info .. I'm 18weeks out and am doing quite well... Fella hipster
YOU MY FRIEND, "THE BEST""!!🎉HAPPY NEW YEAR!! GOD BLESS YOU!!
Given the lengthy recovery, sounds like he underwent a posterior approach...(?)
I had a hip replacement several years ago and has had more pain every single day since.
What an amazing human being, Dr. Badia!
Hi Pete, I've had knee pain (athritis) for years and find alexander techniqyue helps. In the last 2 months though I have been doing calf and hamstring stretches plus back against wall and keeping middle back back, and finding these help my knees, have less pain but still feel heavy at times. Is there a way of stretching that is more alexander work. Can you do a video on stretching and alexander work. Thanks for videos - not watched all yet but the ones I have watched are helpful.
My pain totally disappeared after the initial week or so.
Can the nerve irritation post hip replacement be in the opposite side. About six weeks after I developed right buttock pain going down leg to foot but in the opposite hip to one that was replaced. The pain is much worse at night.
Why am I suffering knee pain after hip replacement?
I’m 2 weeks post op regarding hip replacement surgery and I’ve noticed I still have groin pain. When I had steroid injections before surgery it took the groin pain away. But I’m wondering if the groin pain is coming from the back problems I’ve had for many years. I have rod’s in my lower spine 🤔
Im on my 18 months and its gettinh worse, a very sharp pain in every sudden movement
I am 4 weeks after total right hip replacement. Everything seems to be going ok, minimal pain and my surgical leg has become my "good" leg, as I need my left hip replaced next month. I am 56 and went back to work after 2 weeks and climbed a low ridge yesterday with a backpack and deer rifle. Right hip worked like a champ, the left hip felt like my right hip used to. It is sweet relief.
The pain is so excruciating it is just unexplainable, I never scream or cuss but I begged the e.m.t.'s to shoot my head. I really asked them to shoot me. The pain is a 12/10. The dislocated hip showed the ball of the joint was 5" off the joint. The severity was caused by my CROSSING MY LEGS! 😂
Mine was from tying my boot.
My hip replacement was November last year. Something I never do is cross my leg. I broke my original hip which is how I wound up with an artificial hip & that was bad enough!! Hope I never dislocate - I'm told dislocation & infection are always an issue
Is there a website or where can I find any program for how to manage pain
He says there may be some patience that have a list of materials they don't want in their body he doesn't mention thousands of lawsuits over Cobalt poisoning and recalls of Cobalt implants. Look up Dr Stephen Tower a surgeon who suffered from Cobalt poisoning and now is highly against it. Almost all surgeons are covering up the cobalt horrors. Cobalt poisoning causing heart failure and neurological problems.
Can the hip get dislocated 30 days after a total hip replacement surgery if the person was bedridden and unconscious most of those days?
hHi Pete. Thanks for explanarion, helping people to understand hip/ knee, as one part of the body suffers the whole body suffers, i am a little more focused on the hip and shoulder. A very hard concept for people to acknowledge.
Fantastic description of nerve palsies .. thanks a lot Prof Board .. 😊
Day 18 of anterior hip replacement.. I slept well and was never bed ridden. First 3 days were the worst, 1st week was challenging. Only took acetaminophen, off of it now. Hip still a little tight but still making good progress.
how is it going now
