Gwen Verdon interviewed by Rian Keating, 1983 Public Access

Gwen Verdon answered the phone when I called number for Nicole Fosse in the Manhattan phone directory. When I explained what I wanted, she very politely said no, but reconsidered when I said But Spotlight! was a poor man's Dick Cavett show without the self-referential narcissism and you-can-talk-about-anything you-want!" It was then she agreed to an interview, so she could discuss the psycholog...
Dingwall fun with Dexter, 2003

Found this in the cellar and got very sentimental. This was the year I started adding on to the Cape Breton cabin and the great joy was Dexter insisting we go to the ocean. He was a marvelous viszla/ridgeback who lived to be 17. Here I look like Jesus and had hair. You can see how beautiful the Highlands are and how clear the water is. That is my Ford Club Wagon van next to the cabin that got 7...

Having just returned to NYC at the age of 59. She was incredibly kind. The flies you see are because she perfumed herself to the hilt. She said she might as well have dumped a gallon of ice cream on herself. A real star.

Julie Wilson at 59 on her triumphant return to NYC after caring for her parents in Nebraska. She had just made a splash at Michael's Pub, singing Sondheim. I am 23 and in awe. If you notice the flies she is batting away that is because of her perfume. She commented between episodes she might as well have doused herself with ice cream. A true original. Part One of two parts.

Hero of My Own Life: a profile of AIDS activist, David Summers

The AIDS activist in a PBS profile, filmed in the early days of the plague. I had interviewed David at the beginning of his activism; this was done shortly before his death. I found this in the basement and was reminded of how horrifying those times were and but how it galvanized a whole movement. Here is the NY Times review by John Corry: ''HERO OF MY OWN LIFE'' is a modest, unobtrusive and ul...

The jazz legend invited me to her walk-up apartment so she could let her hair down (metaphorically speaking). She was very sweet and didn't let on that I didn't know what the hell I was talking about. Glad she had thirty years after our little chat.

Whenever I listen to your interview with Gwen I get more insights into her character and personality. You asked important questions and she understood. This helps me perform my show honoring her. Judi Mark “Merely Marvelous: The Songs of Gwen Verdon” ❤
Thanks, Judi! You do her proud! Happy New Year!
Brilliant talented beyond comprehension.
She was very attractive, vivacious, apparently had a brain, could really belt out a song, and had dated and copulated with some famous rock stars, but the liberated sexpot thing would have quickly grown stale, and I think she would have become boring as hell, after awhile. Additionally, trustworthiness, and frankly, STD’s would have been a concern. She’s 81 now, which is mind-blowing.
This was a delight. The interviewer was wonderful and Quentin was dazzling. I adore him so much and I am glad he moved to New York and was welcomed.🥀🥀♥️
I started a Facebook group, "Memories of Mark Fotopoulos [1956-1991] for people who knew and loved Mark, or knew of him and appreciated his life and work.
Cuckoo 🎉
I guess that was before the divorce and the custody battles ...
Absolutely fascinating what QC said about his career or lack of one, and being a model, and the “students” and their reason for going to art classes. Such food for thought from such a profound thinker, he was incredible. Blows my mind with his colossal intellect.
50% of US hemophiliacs were wiped out, and we don't really hear about it, to that degree. No matter what you think or believe about homosexuality, their ability to get the message out, to document the devastation, to organise, was incredibly impressive.
This is the actual description of the video."Charlie was so inarticulate I don't even this we put this on the air, public access through it was." Bahahaha! Why did they even "try" to say that anyway. He sounds fine to me.
I WANT YOU TO KNOW ME (C)2006
Kelly Bishop has huge eyes. I really notice them on "Gilmore Girls."
Very sad that Family did that
Voice
Wonderful voive
😢😢😢😢😢
Thumbs up if you are watching All My Children reruns on youtube in 2024!
Where can I find the rest of this interview?
Her voice 😫🙏
She was such a smart, wise, beautiful and graceful woman.
Shirley Duchman Knight....🎬....🙏🏽...👍🏽💥🎭
Just coming across this interview now. How did you get introduced to Margaret Whitting ? She had such a beautiful voice . What was it like talking to her ?
Sooo, it never once occurred to anyone to just bring the mic closer to Mr. Little so we could actually hear over that infernally loud air conditioner??

What a great interview. Liked!

I’ve always loved Kelly Bishop. So great. I saw her in the show and she was, indeed, sensational!
Do you here me milo lol
Buddy Rourke golden girls
I am glad to say this, now not so young man, is alive and well. Bless him. He’s Quints age now. Oh to be young and so full of promise.
This lady could act, Dixie Ray is proof enough.
What a wonderful interview, Rian, and what well thought out questions, especially so for such a young man at the time. You seemed to become more relaxed by mid interview and the dialogue flowed better and better as it went along. What a treat it must have been to have Mr. Quisp there for your program. He continues to intrigue me even years after his passing. You and I appear to be about the same age and I see much of myself in you in your interview. Thank you for sharing this with us, Rian. Well done!!
Shes so beautiful
Quentin... Repeating all his well-worn cliches and..Performing.
I thought she was Katie Cole's sister in the singing act.
I love this interview. Thank you for letting Jane be herself and covering so much about her upbringing and career. She’s a class act, always!
what a beautiful, bright & talented artist!!!❤❤
she’s gorgeous !
Veronica Hart spent time at my North Hollywood house.
As she once said she's not the normal actress
This is an false appraisal of British ( not English television). The odd thing is Quentin never had or watched a TV! He's speaks with a pseudo authority. Thev1970s had superb programmes with American favourites too.
Thank you 😊
One of the most beautiful men ever lived, but he had the common inner demon: drugs.
Awwww the sound
A wonderful man.
Veronica is amazing.
That Rian, in this video is one hot number. I wonder what is he up to these days.
I truly enjoy every moment of listening to this guy. Also, the interviewer had so many good, thoughtful questions.
In another interview he said people in NY told him most people your age are going to a nursing home not to emigrate to American.
He joked that he would not be able to recreate the dust piled up of his bedsit in London he lived in over 40 years.
