Today, I use this video as a proper ending to our season, and officially close the chapter on a rather unique, but amazing season with UTSA Indoor. When I first watched this show, I thought "this sounds like Cavaliers." Then I realized the director was Richard Saucedo and thought "oh NO WONDER!"

@@evan-t-s Yeah, the school was going through transition after Philip Geiger retired after our win at Grand Nationals in 2003 (was on the Snareline in that show too!). 2004 and on were really difficult for the school as we adjusted to new teaching staff with new ideas and new vision for the band. I appreciate you getting this audio up here, this seems like a lifetime ago to me but a great piece of nostalgia for sure!

@@evan-t-s They announced both scores and placements during the awards ceremony while we were all on the field. They also provided the score breakdown to the directors shortly after. IIRC, Westfield took Music and GE, Reagan took Visuals. Or maybe Reagan took GE, I don't remember. However, BOA is (was) set up such that Music was 60% of the overall score. I think Reagan placed 3rd, we placed 1st in music. Then 2nd in the other. Interestingly enough, the scores were .05 points from each other because we received a .2 point penalty for a person being on the field too long. We almost lost by a technicality.

The wind and vocal portions are surreal and just fantastic. Bravo... That said if I could dare to be critical... I was struggling to put my finger on something that was missing but I think I see it now. There's no musical riff. Lots of drum corps do this... skill-wise, it's musically great... but in terms of continuity, telling a story through music, I just don't hear the music portion for much of the show. I'm biased here b/c Lassiter 2002 is the favorite show ever and boy did that show have "music".

It probably was. If I'm not mistaken he may have had his hand in couple of our shows during the early 2000s. I remember seeing his name on our music back then 😊

it’s underrated because now westfield high school isn’t as big as it was years ago. i go to spring high school (in the same district) and our band is also the same.
You’re gonna find that the appreciation for a lot of the shows from this era, especially LC, Westfield and Marian Catholic aren’t gonna get the amount of appreciation like they used to for the shows done in the early 2000s
