If u would spare him, you would meet him later on island gla ( you must visit it because of main story ) and u will have option to tell him to not come back to stentor which will lead later to battle between you and stentor after the battle. After defeating stentor u can just go away and he will appear as mercenary ( yes, u can recruit him to your ship ).
