I thought I would share the main concepts of his book and my personal thoughts about it here! Join me in the conversation! If you want to read the full book check it ...

    Hi I’ve just finished the book. Addressing your concern around 5:50, about if the products would taste different. P.166 talks about the flavors of the tomato, how some of the indoor varieties weren’t up to par with the outdoor grown ones and why. Dr. Despommier states that, “By studying the outside conditions that produced tasty veggies (e.g., cold nights, warm days, or short periods of drought), they [the greenhouse industry] concluded that some stress was necessary in order to elicit flavonoids (complex organic molecules specific to plants).” I don’t really farm or anything, but to my understanding; by manipulating the indoor environments of the vertical farm, we can still achieve the flavors that we’d want from the fruit/veggie, even if it was grown indoors. Maybe even more. I’m very excited for this concept to fruit into life, and am wishing free fresh foods could be available for everyone. No one should go hungry and starvation shouldn’t be a reality, especially if food waste is a thing.

      I used to use the Lush Conditioner bars, but to be honest, they aren't great. Mostly because they don't melt well. It takes awhile for them to get soft in the shower and then when I rub it on my hair, barely anything rubs onto it. My hair doesn't feel silky smooth at all afterwards either....Still on the look out for a good zero waste conditioner bar alternative...somewhere out there, there must be one

    I love my Honey I've washed my hair shampoo bar. I've tried their solid conditioners which I'm not that fond of, but I still highly recommend the shampoo. I actually used up all my bar and had to use my mum's shampoo for a while and my hair started getting really dry again. It's not just good as a product with less waste but it is actually a really good shampoo.

    I have brought a lush shampoo bar yesterday and wow it does make a difference to my hair. I got honey I washed my hair and it smells amazing I am in love with it. I have quite dry hair and recently discovered the shampoo bars from lush so I decided to try and it works a dream. The only issue is that with this bar the fragrance won't last if you smother your hair with conditioner (I didn't use a lush one) but I would highly recommend this bar or any other shampoo bar to anyone who is thinking to switch

    • @showmehowplease
      @showmehowplease 5 років тому

      I would say yes, only because the shampoo has sulfate in it so it really removes all the oil in your hair, leaving it bare enough that it could use conditioner. Some people don't need to condition their hair, so if you don't normally condition your hair with the shampoo you use now, you probably won't need it. If you do use a separate conditioner now, you'll probably need one for this too. I just bought the Lush Hair Conditioner called 'BIG' and I like it. It lathers pretty well. I do not suggest getting the "JUNGLE" conditioner, it did not melt and lather as well when I bought it about a year ago.

    • @showmehowplease
      @showmehowplease 5 років тому

      The best compromise is to just start off with the shampoo. Try it for a wash. If it feels dry, then you can get a conditioner

    I bought a handmade shampoo bar from a local small business in town. Although I like the idea of no plastic, the bar makes my hair greasy. I have to use a reg shampoo in between. Mind you I don't use the red cider vinegar and water rinse suggested on the bar.

    • @showmehowplease
      @showmehowplease 5 років тому

      Yeah, I've definitely experimented with handmade shampoo bars I've found on Etsy and grocery stores. Some made my hair greasy and others made my hair feel heavy, like it didn't completely wash out. Which is why I liked the Lush Shampoo bars because they gave me the clean and light feeling I wanted without a plastic bottle involved. I bought red cider vinegar to do the rinse once and I didn't really enjoy the extra process, I heard it works for some people, but I never got too involved with that route.

    So you try to reduce waste, yet you return your product to the store. And even tell others they can do this? What do you think they will do with that bar you used? They will just throw it out! If it doesnt work for you, give it away to someone that will use the product. And this product doesn’t save the planet. To save the planet stop flying and stop eating animal products and protest your government for total plastic consumption bans/reduction. Individual products like this are not enough.

    • @showmehowplease
      @showmehowplease 5 років тому

      I think your suggestions of stop flying and stop eating animal products and protesting the govt are very valid. They are ways we can help save the planet. But I'm not a fan of telling people that the things they are doing is not enough. Everyone is on their own journey to do their part and what they can. To have someone replace their plastic bags with paper bags and then slowly transition to reusable bags. Or just replacing their plastic water bottles with reusable water bottles are good steps. The statement, 'you can do more' will always be true and saying 'this is not enough' is very discouraging and can lead to thoughts like: "Well if this isn't enough, why bother doing anything at all." I get your frustration and I have definitely had those thoughts as well, but at the end of the day, I hope to encourage people to just do one more thing and continue on that path.

    • @Hans760
      @Hans760 5 років тому

      @@showmehowplease It is great that people try things to 'save the planet' (which is funny way of saying it because the planet will live on, it is the human race and many other species that will die..). The problem is that individual action is not enough. The solution to climate crisis and plastic is not for individuals to buy shampoo bars. The solution is for governments to pressure the industry to ban all plastics and use renewable sources. When individuals people feel they do great things for the planet by consuming less polluting products it often makes them feel they have done enough that way. And they stop feeling the need to take ACTUAL ACTION for actual solutions. The solutions are not on an individual basis and individual choices, the solutions are to collectively make these choices! Governments need to start banning single use plastics for example, that is something we should strive for by letting our governments hear our voices (instead of those of corporations). Yes it is not enough to buy this product, but there is another solution. Look at how they banned CFCs to stop the ozon layer problems. That was an actual solution. We should learn from that, collective action IS possible!! but we won't get there if we keep on putting the solution to this problem on the individual level..

I used a not sleepy shower bomb last night followed by the charity pot naked lotion, plus I used the jade roller facial cleanser and the guv'ner deodorant. So far, I am impressed. I cannot wait to try a naked shampoo bar! I want to go back and purchase one really soon because last night I realized my shampoo is running out... what a good excuse!! XD

    • @themoderngreenlife

      Hi! The purpleish pair? The one I reviewed with is the French Tuke color! www.allbirds.com/products/womens-wool-runners-tuke-french-fry It looks light brown indoors, and almost pinkish purple in the daylight. That shade of color honestly changes hues depending on the lighting, which is amazing to me. I love it, but if you want a more consistent color, the grays, whites and pinks stay more true to it's original shade. I ordered a pink one as well, but returned it because I wanted to be more minimalist. But that one is actually out of stock and currently not in the color rotation of Allbirds. They occasionally bring it back from time to time though. Ah! I'm excited for the comfort level your feet is going to experience with the Allbirds loll

    • @showmehowplease
      @showmehowplease 6 років тому

      I, strangely, recently moved into a communal place where I share a bathroom so I have to keep my bathroom stuff with me too! I've learned that the travel tin is NOT great for keeping things solid, the lush bar ended up melting and sticking to the bottom. So, instead, you can use the soap saver in the video and cut it to the size of the tin, then put it at the bottom so the liquid will move to the bottom. Even better is to let it air dry for awhile before closing the lid. I actually keep my face bar soap in an open mini mason jar to let it air dry too (without a soap saver at the bottom), making sure to clean the jar from time to time. The face bar is always on it's side so it doesn't stick to the bottom. Hope this gives you options!

    I’ve tried 2, Soak And Float (I got this recommended for my type of hair by someone working at the shop) and New. So far I have no luck at all. It gets my hair pretty dry during the wash (lots of solid soaps also do this to my skin) and on the long term my scalp gets dry, and flaky, and incredibly itchy. It’s not like that at first but over time it builds up and it itches so bad, even with a good liquid conditioner. I haven’t tried conditioner bar but I really hope I get more luck.

    • @themoderngreenlife
      @themoderngreenlife 6 років тому

      Aw man that sounds awful. It's crazy how different people's reactions to products can be. Do you think maybe you're allergic to the chemicals in the solid shampoo bars? Have you tried one without Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or any chemicals at all? There are some pure organic ones. I am thinking about trying out shampoo bars without this chemical to see if that will still keep my hair 'feel' clean. If you're not getting this reaction with bottled shampoos, then it might be some chemical in the solid shampoo bars that isn't working for you. If you are getting the same reaction, then it might be a skin condition too that a dermatologist can look at. I've had scalp trouble as well and one visit to the dermatologist got me all fixed up!
