Kirsten Road - A Great Western Railway Branch Line
Приєднався 23 лис 2012
Formerly Greg's Bonanza Valley & Western. I'm currently building a 7mm (1:43 scale) model railway called Kirsten Road. It's a fictional Great Western Railway Branch set in the 1946-50 time period.

Garden Model Railway

My first attempt a couple years ago at garden railroading. The scale is 7/8ths. Time and other commitments put this idea on the shelf, but some day I’ll give it another go.
Model Railroad Reefer Operations.

Mike Jordan devised this great Work Card method for handling iced reefers with a great degree of authenticity. His inspiration and guidance have been crucial in developing my slight variation of his techniques.

Great switching action and beautiful scenery work!
Bonzer Railcar!
Great update and a beautiful looking layout. For my taste the music was a little bit too loud, sometimes it was quite hard to hear you, but maybe that´s just me. Keep up the great work!
Is there a ratio of the paper mâché to sand that you use or are you just mixing it to a certain texture?
Howdy oldgrumpyhunter.... I really don't have a set ratio for the sand. Nor with the paint. Once I start mixing with my hand I know the texture I'm looking for. It's not as critical as baking a cake. LOL. Lou Sassi was the first person I saw use this technique. It might be worth your time to look up Lou Sassi Ground Goop on Google and see if he's got a recommendation for ratio. Thanks for reaching out and good luck. G
@@Terhaar705 Thanks for the reply.
Great video and beautiful layout! Looks like a lot of fun and a nice chance to sit back and relax. Looking forward to your next videos!
Thanks so much!
Nice use of the work cards for the individual car pre shipment car loading movements. Using the pink way bill/ car cards is a nice touch. Like the stylized back ground painting, very art deco.
@@MichaelJordan-bs4he Thanks for the inspiration and education.
Nice scene! I like the prototypical speed.
Thanks Paul!
Back in the late 70's, I drove a school bus and was stopped by a train. The kids started counting, they got to get to 82, 83,, ...82, 81. It was a long day.
As a farm kid living near the tracks and riding the school bus in the 70's and 80's I know exactly what you're talking about. LOL.
Ethanol plant run short of corm? 😆 Nice video, though. Good speed for my part of the country.
Very nice. I like to run my operations at a slower pace as well, more prototypical.
What are the big white pipes for?
Fumigation station for reefers that required that service before loading perishables. Grape transport commonly required this.
Great scale speed operation, beautiful layout !!
Thank you!
Layout looks great! Gotta ice those reefers! And that Perez Prado style soundtrack is perfect for this!
Dance of the rails! The only thing missing is a maracas player backing up Cyd Charisse as she floats from scene to scene mimicking the loco’s movements. Love this layout!
Ha! I hope those who either grew up during the 50's or have studied the 50's will understand that my musical selection is meant to invoke the Desi Arnez/I Love Lucy Latin American musical vibe that was so popular at the time. I think it's quite fitting for an early 1950's So. Cal. based model railroad. My contention is that all MR's need theme music. Thanks for the comment!
@@Terhaar705 There’s nothing like a backstory, and yours is spot-on. Conga on, Desi! Keep it coming.
Beautiful Layout 👍
Thank you.
Greg, I take it that at the fumigation station, the reefer's ice block doors are opened, and those tubes are lowered over the opening before the chemical is applied.
Yes. That is my understanding.
I was not aware there were still some wood sided reefers in use in the 1960's.
My layout is set in the early 50’s.
The backdrop painted in the style of produce crates is a nice touch.
Thanks. Glad you noticed the connection.
Magnificent catches of the model trains coming by and pass, I like it 5 stars. Thumbs up. Keep up the perfect work, my friend, just liked and subscribed, Greetings from Portugal to the USA.
Nice to see it going by the Wooden Shoe and the Terhaar and Buchholz farms! Wish I could’ve been up there to see it, but hopefully I’ll catch the return trip whenever that is.
Interesting video. The backing music though is both unnecessary and distracting.
Nice, I never saw a fumigation facility before
Nicely Done👍👍👍👍👍.
I sure like your bumper music! Oh yes, nice railroad.
Thanks Ken. Every railroad needs theme music. Mine is meant to have a Desi Arnaz 1950’s vibe. See you at the convention.
@@Terhaar705 Greg, This will be a fun convention. Perhaps we can pipe in some of this music into the bar for late convention evening entertainment.
Love your stylized approach to background painting.
Thank you. Really wanted to convey something different on this layout compared with my other layout.
Anyone know when the Empress will be coming through the western suburbs of the Twin Cities ? I would like to catch it running along Hwy 55 in the Medina area.
This morning. If it's not already through there... it's close.
It's currently tied down in humboldt yard north Minneapolis. I believe sometime in the morning it will st. Paul union station
Nice vid but, I would think the tall palm trees would indicate Santa Fe territory.
😂 not according to the pics I’ve seen.
Great video 😅
Wait? You're taking off for the summer? This ant no-good? Lol! Enjoyed watching your videos, stay safe.
Not really. LOL. Just going to be spending a little less time in the basement, and more time outside in my garden and mowing my large lawn. Lawn mowing takes me three hours on my farm. Thank you! If the spirit loves me and I’ve got something worth sharing, I’ll post.
@Terhaar705 summer duties are a hassle, but I love the summer. Hopefully you'll have a great one.
Have a great summer. Look forward to seeing new videos in the fall.
Looks like a positive test 👍🏽
Very nice! Slow speed switching is the way to do it!
Sehr schöne Anlage, tolles Projekt. Gefällt mir 👍🙋♂️ Gruß vom Michel
Nice to see the practice and patience of prototypical speed.
Pretty cool 🤠
Phantastically Awesome….
Nice work….
Like #3 Great share and video thanks have a great weekend and enjoy running trains
Outstanding Work ! Your lighting is also a game changer.
Thank you!
this is a freaking spiftacular idea! LOVE IT!!!!
Thanks you!! I'm excited about it.
Looks like a nice project. I’m looking forward to following along.
Thanks 👍
Looks to be a fun layout. I love that long long icing platform. Good operations potential! - Paul
Thanks Paul. I think so too. There's an hour or two of switching to be done when you factor in all the steps involved with icing and packing. I think the Pacific Electric interchange is a key element as well.
Now you will need to get the deep dive tutorial on yellow reefers from Mike Jordan. Just don't go the 70 tonner route
Thanks Ken. Mike has been so helpful, and a fountain of knowledge. Definitely not running a 70 tonner. I would however like to run a little SP steam though. Time will tell. Great event yesterday.
Very nice. Just a suggestion; where you have the track going through the backdrop for the refinery, you may (depending on the angel- it's difficult to tell on video) be able to use a pipe gantry (metal lattice bridge that carries the pipes over the tracks above the car height). If this was placed so the hozintal of the pipe gantry was the same hieght as the top of the cut out, it would make the cut out invisable, as a vew block, as well as making an interesting structure usually seen around pipe unloading or transfers. Just a suggestion!
Great suggestion. Thank you.
The first time seeing this railroad. The hidden staging( The hole) is pretty nice! Layout looks great.
Wonderful update. You are doing a fantastic job 👍. Joe
Thank you!
👍
Excellent update video layout coming along well 👍🏻 keep up the fantastic work thanks for sharing
Thank you
That is awesome looking 👌
Thank you
I am not sure where to start but your going along great. great trees.
Thanks. There's no rhyme or reason... just jump in.
