Hello everyone, my name is Karina, I am a Costume Technician, Researcher and Artisan who goes by Kartsie on Social Media.
A History of Daphne, Scooby-Doo, & Cultural Movements (Who is Daphne Blake?)
This Documentary took a while to make and once I commit to something I always have to do it right. Which is one of the reasons why this project has gone on for so long. BUT I am so excited to reveal the DAPHNE COSPLAY next time. That video is wayyy faster to edit than this one lol.

While Velma is the superior intellect... Daphne ia gifted with imagination and people skills...she represents the humanity of her team
The sexualization bit is a stretch. But otherwise a good video.
Not me (25, as of typing this) having an existential crisis with this video essay.
I really enjoyed watching Daphne kick ass, but my heart was always for Velma! She’s adorkable and can be so very sassy!
I loved this I love to see more of these types of videos 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾💗💗💗💗
As I get older I’m surprised at how deep all five of the main cast can be if you simply look beyond their surface level characteristics. Even Fred has more going on that just being a dumb hot guy.
💜
I would like to think that as Daphne grew up she would learn to be prepared for most things given her prior clumsiness. I carry a whole bag with me with pretty much anything I would need based on my proclivity to be forgetful and clumsy. It has totally changed people's perception of me!
Underrated video 💕
Lolwut? Velma catering to "the woke crowd"? It's literally a Mindy Kaling show reskinned into Scooby Doo. Mindy... the conservative.
You forgot about the other 2 live action movies
Idk why they stop making live action scooby Doo it was so good
Daphne is a badass.
Me gusto como explicarte.
Los Mike de la antigüedad.
Great video!! Thank you
She was always my favorite character honestly and I grew up watching Scooby Doo
Ugh... please... it's pronounced ess-pecially, not ex-pecially. There's no c or x between the e and the s, so please stop pronouncing it as if there is.
this is such a great video omg good job honestly
There’s a typo on the screen when you say sexualization it actually reads sexualition
Yassss!!!!! A Nancy Drew shoutout. Are you thinking of covering Nancy Drew in the future? I would love you to do it! :D
Good video. No idea why UA-cam recommended this to me but i enjoyed my stay. Good points although it does feel a bit odd, if we're mentioning fans opinions on her and not mentioning the whole Velma daphne thing. Especially if we're going through all the shows and Velma show finally kinda did it. (Although that show is kinda awful, so not much is missed from not including it) Anyway interesting video to make. Good job
You missed Caddillac bumper bullets (early sixties) as the origin of the term 'bullet bra'. As in that girl was wearing a pair of bumper bullets. At least that is the way I remember how it went, I am 75.
Lets be real no 10 year old today knows the many loves of dobbie gillis
I didn't know people felt like that about Daphne. I was always obsessed with her growing up. Always thought that she was just able to talk to people. And being able to do that to me has always been her strong suit. Plus I can see her wanted to hang out with them. When you think about it it's Rich as she is You know people would want to be her friend just because of her money.
6:18 -- That's not Indira Stefanianna...that's Heather North
Are you single
The ‘getting kidnapped thing’ is one of the reasons I love mystery incorporated so much. If I remember right, it only happens a few times throughout the series
Love from a SaberSpark and Vaush fan!
Fun fact : In the concepts, Daphne was thought to be Shaggy’s cousin
This made me realize why i always thought of velma as mean in the og cartoon, daphnes always been my fave so i guess i noticed the attitude towards her even if i didnt consciously realize it as a kid lol later versions of velma never gave me that vibe and i really liked her
i grew up with the mystery incorporated show, and even as a kid i had decided that neither main pairing were into each other. no one will be able to convince me that fred isn't/shouldn't be asexual and aromatic. i really like the idea that daphne is dealing with comphet (whether she's bi or lesbian) i think it adds a fun little layer to her character, and feels in line with the way her character developed over time and over MI. fighting makes sense as a skill for her, but might be better a little pulled back into something like self defense. overall i think it's important for versions of both fred and daphne to lean into their nerdiness for the gang's dynamic to work. it's really interesting to see the different ways different generations of fans interpret her because of how much she has changed in relation to the others.
Mystery Incorporated was a great show. Crystal Cove rules!, Coolsville sucks.
Daphne is suuuch a super graphic ultra modern pop girly
tbh I don't remember hearing that nickname that much while growing up (probs bc it's only said the twice, I see now) but both times that it was said bothered me in a way I didn't have words for at the time. It's perhaps one of the meaner things that any of the gang say to each other, at least in the original
The Velma show should not be considered legal, much less canon. Mindy should have just made her own show instead of outright bastardizing and destroying every aspect of the characters. It doesn’t deserve to even be seen in a thumbnail much less be in this video. It is TRASH. It isn’t for the “woke” crowd; it’s trolling the woke crowd.
It's just a Mindy Kaling self-insert show with a Scooby Doo coat of paint. And Mindy Kaling is a conservative, so I don't get how people assume "woke". Is it because she's not white?
I always loved when it was just her, Shaggy, Scooby, and Scrappy. We got to see her leadership skills and she shined beautifully
70's kid here. I've never seen Daphne as a damsel. In fact it was Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby who I usually saw as needing saving. Velma seemed unable to cope without her glasses and I always thought that was silly. She wasn't legally blind so it would have been inconvenient but she should have been fine. Shaggy & Scooby were always in trouble. Daphne kept a cooler head. I've always seen her as co-leader with Fred. Never bossy but guiding the group in subtle ways. I've shipped her and Fred from the beginning as I am a romantic guy. I didn't like how they Zena'd her in the live action but I really took umbrage to making Scrappy the villain. I love how you addressed the unrealistic "hot fighter chick" trope of the late 90's but I wouldn't put Sarah Connor in that box. She's more of a self made bad ass not focusing on being hot but practical. Slight of frame Women can take down big men but they need to use different realistic methods otherwise they'd have to bulk up to match. That way they make a deft badass like Sarah Connor who can take down a wrestler but using her skills rather than fantasy wishes. Daphne could have used Judo and environmental obstacles to prove competence and not have to nerf a 300 wrestler and still make her win and it would have felt genuine and exciting while making it a bit comedic for the vibe of the movie. As a young man I was enamored by Daphne. As an older guy I think I would have been happier with Velma as her attitude fits mine more. I like the last series of the Gang being more based even with supernatural stuff. It shows that a woman can be independent, and still get the guy she wants without sacrificing her dignity because loving someone isn't a weakness or a strength but an emotion that needs to be worked on. While a teenager's love may be more pure and intense, it is also usually naive and needs to be tempered with patience. Giving a believable story arc more than "happily ever after" but more of a worthy endeavor for both her and Fred. I just wish Shaggy and Velma could work it out.
I saw a tik tok with all her designs and I searched Scooby Doo Daphne and I am so glad I found this video.
Amazing!!
This is one of the most precisely crafted ballet bodice I’ve seen 😍 May I ask is you fused the silk to the inner layers or just hand stitch?
I think you should do one on Amy Rose from sonic. I would love to see what you have to say.
The hex girl song from witches ghost has never left my mind lol
Daphne and Shaggy were always my favorites among the gang. So I didn't mind when they wrote the other two out of it. I kind of liked the dynamic between that version of Shaggy and Daphne. Funny thing, no one mentions that Daphne isn't the only one with money. It's shown, or at least hinted, in a couple of episodes, that Shaggy comes from a wealthy family to.
I'd be interested to see where you got your sources for this! You talk about inspiration I've never heard of for the Scooby-Doo series!
Even in this video where she tries to pretend females are competent she talks aviut a female who only cares about money 💀
OH YEAH BABY!!!! Daphne has ALWAYS been my favorite character and a comfort character of mine! As a gay guy, when i was little i saw her as a inspiration, a icon, a queen. I loved how feminine & fashionable she was but still bad ass!! Specifically in the live action movie when she beat that guy up towards the end i mean how can you not say mother?!
Sarah Michelle gellar DYD that role 💖💖👿👿
I long for another mystery incorporated, the HBO Velma was such a trip. 😂
haven't watched the video yet but if the weird fucked-up version of Daphne who cameos in s3 of Young Justice along side Velma and gender-bent Fred isn't at least an honorable mention, then its not worth my time
