Snowfalls in Vermont have been light and fluffy and sometimes rather spotty in Vermont so far this winter. We finally got a wetter, sticker snow on Feb 3-4, 2025 that really helped erase the drabness of winter. Video taken in St. Albans, Vermont.

Here in Vermont, we've been flurried to death this winter. Lots of light snows but no big storms. So it was nice to see a brief period of torrential snow squalls pass through on January, 29, 2025. It was far more pretty than scary. And you can hear in the background the snowplows were getting right to work on this. We had 1.5 inches new snow in 25 minutes with this.

Some of my favorite weather photos I took in Vermont in 2024. Some of the photos you'll see were taken in different places on the same day, as some occasions were especially picturesque. Photos are also heavy on the storms, it was that kind of year in the Green Mountain State.

A strong temperature inversion - warm air up above, cold air in the valleys - helped create these quiet, pretty Vermont winter scenes on Dec. 26-27, 2024. The frost on the trees in most clips is from freezing fog caused by the inversion.

A few glimpses of sunsets, and a couple sunrises from my Vermont home. Favorite ones are with the midsummer birdsong. Enjoy!

Vermont weather took some dramatic turns on December 11-12, 2024. December 11 brought a drenching rain, the first since late September, putting a small dent in a drought and threatening, but not producing floods. Next day, lake effect snow squalls managed to reach northwest Vermont all the way from Lake Ontario. They didn't last long, though. Video is a journey through those two days.

Early December in Vermont is as dark as it gets. The short days are almost always overcast. So you rely on bursts of snow, mini-thaws, a couple of tiny breaks in the clouds, Christmas lights and even confused crows (3:30 into the video) to lighten the mood.

The first decent snowfall of the year belatedly came to Vermont on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2024. The Champlain Valley, where I am, was mostly too warm to get the rain, so it was a chilly mix of rain and wet snowflakes through most of the event. Though it ended with a very pretty frosting on the trees to introduce the holiday season.

I love the uniqueness of the brief daylight of what is known as "stick season" in Vermont. That's the time after the leaves fall and the snow arrives, usually in November. All different cold shades of blue and gray, and even the supposedly warm orange tones seem chilly. And there's alway wind. A video tour here.

A strong but moisture-starved cold front swept into Vermont on November 8,, 2024. It caused gusty winds and dramatic skies, especially when shafts of bright low angle sun battled with the storm clouds. Gorgeous and blustery video here.

All-time record high temperatures for so late in the season embraced Vermont on October 31, 2024 as temperatures soared to unprecedentedly late 75-80 degrees. But to remind us all this is Vermont, two days later, November 2, 2024, some sleety snow showers gave us a cold reality check.

When the famed Vermont foliage season is getting ready to end, the colors fade to yellow and gold, still beautiful. But then a blizzard of leaves introduces us to "stick season." We give you a guided tour here.

After a beautiful, long lasting Vermont foliage season, the wind picked up on October 23, 2024, sending a lot of the leaves to the ground. It was still very pretty, as some leaves stubbornly hung on despite the 35 mph gusts.
