After lengthy delays and numerous technical difficulties, the story so far....... unedited and hopefully with some useful hints.

Man I really want to see your layout completed, your video was what convinced me I should try and make my own N scale coffee table layout. Just bought the track this black Friday.
That's great, but the first thing to do is work out what you want to do with it, ie point to point operations or just continuous running. Mine was designed to do both. Next is pen to paper, sketch it out even just roughly. Start small. You also need to decide whether to go DCC or DC. DCC can be expensive and requires the turnouts to be modified especially if you use elctrofrog turnouts (the V where the rails diverge). Plastic frogs are easier to wire. With DCC is also requires a really clean track. If it's your first time, learn with a small DC setup, understand how to wirer that up first. If you need advise, I more than happen to help. As for mine, trees making heaps of tree. I estimate I need about 500.
Welcome to Trackopolis.
This is incredible what is the size of the table please
This is one serious piece of Engineering. My compliments !
Thank you, it did take some nutting out and having worked in the heavy engineering industry did help.
Coffe table??? Nah this is a big a.. table.
That’s amazing and crazy all at once and great fun to watch. Thank you
Weird fantasy layout. No real railway was like that
I would have trouble putting two loops together ! Well Done !
whats with the murder tarp????????? your rug not pretty enough/
How do you handle trains thats derailed under the surface of the model ?
the side panels are unscrewed and there is enough room for you to get your hand in to get any derailed wagons. I also minimised the track to straights and curves without turnouts on the lower level.
The world's slowest build of a small N scale layout?...7 years and still counting... 😂
I know, unfortunately I have medical conditions that get in the way.
Amazing design. Would like to see how you will do the terrain. PS. Does it come with a marinara sauce?
A❤awesome!
AWSOME YOU ARE A GENIUS !!!
Thank-you for your kind words, I'm glad you like it.
Hey, I think your cat died.
Ummmm What is the point here? A spaghetti junction of track and no room for scenery? 🙄 I guess some people like that. Maybe. 👍
There are 9 videos to date.
looks beautiful. how do you retrieve derailments in the tunnels?
The side panels can be unscrewed to allow you to reach them be hand.
This has been a long build. When are you going to finish?😁
lol, I'll like to know also. We went through some pretty tough covid restriction which restricted me from traveling far enough to get supplies, and these went on for months. I currently have finished all the air brushing and am starting to lay scenery now starting from trackside in. Then will be placing trees from the centre out to the the track. I do have something special I haven't show because I want trains running. I must say you do some fine work.
Looking fantastic
Thanks, I'm current finishing the airbrushing of the ballast and should have it completed in the next day or two. Then on to the scenery and trees. Lots and lots of trees.
Thanks for the update. Looks good.
Thanks for the comment. I wanted to show something that's be completed also, but I decided to save it for the next video once I've finished the airbrushing and have trains running again.
@@peter7755- I’ve been following your build since the beginning.
Man this is epic. Show alot more please
Thanks very much. I'm currently in lockdown and am doing what I can to finish the ballasting and plan to post an update in the coming weeks.
Thanks for the update. 👍👍
Looks great!
Do you need a roommate?
Must be a world record for most track on one coffee table layout. Impressive.
Lol. thanks.
Wonder how he did with the glass top?
Doing the table top now it is currently in frame form awaiting assembly, but convid got in the way. Hopefully it can be restart when workshop opens.
This is pretty large! If a rail car derails, can you lift the table enough without having to remove all cars to get it? This looks really impressive and this coffee table idea is really good
The side panels come off so you can reach in and get the wagons by hand if there were to be a de-railment. The top does hinge up also but mainly for cleaning and to access the wiring if need be.
Where do I put my coffee cup on this “coffee table“?
top being built now, but COVID got in the way.
This is incredible....would love to see an update.
New definition of coffee table required.
Looks so great. You are a wizard. You are building this this thing as a writer architects her story.
Wats the size- 4x6
Yes roughly it's actually 1.2m x 2m (3.9' x 6.5')
@@peter7755 Do you have a layout plan for this one? this is realy impressive and a good inspiration for small table in my study.
@@SwapnilBhartiya Sorry but not really, however in video number 3 I do show a few things that may help including the radius of the curves. Some of it was a case of where things could fit because of the tight space. If you start there, and have any more questions I'm more than happy to help.
@@peter7755 Thank you so much. I really love what you have done here. Given the space I have in my office (only place wife will NOT stop me from building it) I was looking for a multitier modern approach. Yours is a GREAT inspiration. Thank you. What is the radius of inner loops (there are two). I don't you are sending longer trains there.
@@SwapnilBhartiya Thank-you for your kind words. The radii of all the curves are as follows. The two helix curves are 10"(255mm). The other radii I used were 11.8"(300mm),13.7"(350mm),16.5"(420mm),18.1"(460mm),20"(510mm) and 21.6"(550mm). All the radii are measured to the track centreline. The reason I don't run larger locomotives around the helixes is due to the grade approx. 3% and that they are to tight for the Bigboy and the Challenger. I did buy (not on the videos) a large UP diesel to pull a track cleaning wagon through the the helix curves and up the grades which works well.
I can use it as a fine coffee and studying table.
Layout is very nice. You have one of the biggest coffe table though.
Glad you like it. Had a look at your layout video and it looks great.
Coffee table?! That’s a WHOLE ASS table!
That's as fast as it will run?
No, they can run faster, but you want to run them at scale speed not at land braking record speed.
A crazy complicated small tabletop layout. Do you have a track plan?
Thanks for your comment Dave, but I only have a hand drawn sketch which I worked off. In video 3 I do give the radius for all the curves which is where I started.
That's not a coffee table. It's too large to be one.
How many trains you running on the table?
I can run 2 trains on 2 loops whilst performing shunting operations on a third, or run 3 trains on 3 loops whilst shunting on the lower outer yards only.
That looks more of a dinning Room table.
Nice.
the beauty of n scale...this is some fine work..Did you build this?...Looks amazing, once you add some scenery, whatever you can once the top is fitted.
How much you spent for this lay out
It is hard to say for I didn't keep the receipts, but I think it's about $4000 including locos and rolling stock.
Wicked Track Design. I would leave the layout just like it is and run the Trains. Hard to see all that Covered up with Scenery. Great Job !!!
Awesome layout
So, I'm curious, what's your price to let it go????
Shawn, I have never thought of selling it, but I have spent thousands of dollars on it. It is also a work in progress still and has changed substantially from the video in part #1.
Amazing!!!!
Way too much track. What the what?
Such a sweet set up mate! Can't wait to see it completed
That coffee table is as big as a dining table!
