Wow! I love listening to Heidi and reading what she has to say. If autism is both socially constructed with differences between cultures/historically(ref X and Y film where in China maths nerds are valued and prized) , AND autism is real, root constitutional qualities in humans that yearn for expression or cause distress when those sensitivities are not accommodated, AND autism is one canary in the mine and vanguard for social change, I am flabbergasted when anyone navigates and processes all this so successfully and is up for doing this on an ongoing basis(I'm slow and it's painful). It is sad when windows of opportunity are lost but thankfully there are people like Heidi and others to support young people picking up the threads of their lives. I want to believe things are improving and can improve even more.

So happy I came across this podcast. I follow Martins story on Instagram. I'm 37 and being diagnosed only a few years ago. No support or being understood as a kid. Hearing this resonates so much. Very much masking. Putting things together now I have a diagnosis I can put things to rest from when I was younger. My own 13 year old said mom how sad but amazing how you got through so much education all by yourself. I am a wife, mom, step mom, foster mom. I didn't have a good relationship with my mum because she didn't understand me, she still doesn't but, I am momming to the max! Autism is my superpower organising and overthinking others emotions, super empathy, asking are you ok do you need anything (partially because I can't read their faces sometimes) I can't wait to learn more here. Thank you for sharing. ❤ Also Martin's openly stimming has helped me openly stimm again ❤ Thank you
