Great trick, thanks!
My pleasure! 🤝
Mixing is hard. Not just the technical aspect, but mixing in a way that sounds musical and brings life to the song. Maybe it sounds good, but it has to feel good too. It really is more than half of the creative process. Write a great song, record it perfectly, but mix it poorly and you've got nothing... (believe me, I have a whole lot of nothing lol)
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Johnny! It's true, mixing can really breathe life into an already great song. Side note, nice guitar lick on your latest video; you can really hear/feel the difference between the two examples!
thanks for the lesson, this is so helpful!! I'd love to see you do a video on the like 5 to 10 most important mixing techniques that make the biggest difference in getting an unmixed track to go from meh to radio-ready!
Thanks for the suggestion! Definitely stay tuned for that!
There are plenty of those tutorials on UA-cam

Ear training is a must. Awesome example of how to use tools to help.
@@cyclejammerj7227 Thanks for the comment, I couldn’t agree more!
Individually and on busses. Depending on the quality of the recordings. And the vibe of an individual song. Sometimes I just like to mix it up a little bit...
ooo I like that! I really do believe every project has different needs so it's good to be adaptable. Thanks for sharing!
Most simplistic video I've viewed on this subject. And the best....
Thank you! 🤝
God bless you man. I was out of my mind when I ran into this problem. Now I know how to fix it. Thanks
So glad it helped Alex!
Thank you! 👍

if a client sends all the drums on one track (probably rare....but let's say im asking for a friend...lol) does that method you showed us on the kick drum work if you applied the BPM counter to the entire drum recording? thanks!! also thanks for the great video, super helpful tips!!
Awesome question! I just tried it and yes, it works on the entire drums on one track! Just learned something new, thanks! 🫡
@@trudaloo so did I! Thank you!!
incredible video 🔥🔥 ur channel boutta grow fast!!
That means a lot man thank you! Glad the video was helpful 🤝
Thanks for the vid! I’m curious because I’ve never used this technique: is this mostly useful if you’re recording with plugins that are enabled? Usually I record everything dry and add all my plugins afterwards. Am I doing something backwards?
Awesome question! No you’re definitely not doing it backwards! I prefer to record everything dry as well. And yes you are right! The way I understand it, pre-fader metering is simply used to monitor the processed signal accurately after enabled plugins, but before any further fader adjustments. It’s more used as a reference to see how the plugin processing is directly affecting the signal level to make sure you aren’t inadvertently clipping or distorting
The distortion labels seem to describe the nature or sound of distortion when introduced. I would think the Output knob might better be placed just under the on/off switch. Thanks!
That’s super interesting, thanks for the comment!
Good stuff - well explained - great for beginners - keep up the good work 🎉❤
Thanks man! 🤝
I learnt yesterday from a teacher at uni that an eq works by phase flipping frequencies and thats why they get quieter or louder when you cut and boost. And so because you've cut something that doesn't mean its better or even quieter because flipping the polarity of one frequency can align it with other frequencies in the spectrum which boosts them
this is the best 4-minute tutorial for beginners and for those who have never gained stage before. Excellent work~
Thank you Kelly! 🤝
Hi, n33d your assistance, im new to.audio.mixing space and have question for you. In gain staging with any DAW, do we set gain in MIC INPUT or Mastwr Output.
Hey Jzurge! We want to set the gain at the 'mic input' stage to make sure the source signal is strong enough without clipping or distorting. You can then adjust the track's volume fader levels while mixing. Hope this helps!
@@trudaloo so we need to set -12db in mic input for all channel in case of multitrack.thanks a lot
That was super cool I’ve never tried it with a loudness meter 😮

I love that you show how to actually listen for and isolate those frequencies!!! I always hear people say to do that but I’ve never been walked through it in such a simple way before. I’ll definitely be using this method!
@@craigmode woooo I’m glad it was helpful! 🙌
Separate topic, what screen case are you using? It is super clear, and I love the halo on your PIP window.
So I'm using QuickTime player that comes with my iMac for screen recording and I use Davinci Resolve for editing. Just let me know if you have any more questions, I'm glad to help
@@trudaloo, that is great.. Been using ScreenFlow but don't love it.. Davinci is great and I jump back and forth between that and Final cut.. but great editing.
@@kelly.householder Yeah Davinci is a powerhouse and so is Final Cut. Thanks! I'm still learning but it's a lot of fun
