I only have 1 lens with stab and it does work with my a7sm3 and the adapter. However, I've heard mix views depending on the camera and firmware in question. If you find someone in the comments of this or my other video and ask someone with your camera. Good hunting!

I recently got this adapter. I have tries to use it on a small B4 lens thats for 1/3 inch, that actually worked incredibly well. Indeed green fringes, but sharpness is actually pretty good when opened up (probably because the physical aperature is very small). Very top heavy, but i like the distortion on a otherwise very clinical look.
@@ChengduLittleA I just did a new video with, I thought the results came out well. Thanks for sharing your experience.
is autofucus reliable in odd situations like low situations, fast moving subjects? and is there difference in autofocus in native glasses and with adaptors ?
This has become far more difficult question because I bought one a few weeks ago and since then I replaced it as I found it didn't work as well as this version I tested. I now I and getting another replacement due to the noise level and AF. I'm not sure if I was just unlucky. However, my key points are this. I thought I was more happy with the version in this video. AF face tracking overall I'd say I was 90% happy with. On my 2 recent versions I found CU AF didn't track fast on either native or EF although at the fastest settings it wasn't too bad I'd give a 7/10. In a long interview on a native 35mm lens it lost focus a few times and refound focus. However it was a side angle and 1 person had a hat covering part of the face but the other wasn't. Funny thing is I've not found the low to be a problem with AF. Biggest issue was the Eye tracking on a close up. If you learn forward and back it will be slow and drift. Like I said I will be replacing for a second time as the camera in this video did not behave the same. Also I did notice a little more lens noise via the adapter. So that a lot to read and I probably am planning to do a video on it but thought you might like to know!
@@minutesback ohh thanks, understood, think works for me,, at that price range!
Can you please advise - is there a difference color wise between sony glass and canon glass when shooting on Sony camera? I assume that canon glass should have a bit warmer look
@@Armantomato I think all lenses will vary, I don’t think as far as I know there is a set look to EF vs E. EF being old than current E mount glass may well not be sharper and faster on AF but colour will probably be varied across both. I might be wrong but I do have and have used both sets and not noticed.
@@minutesback thank you for the reply
Hi all, @minutesback asked me to put this info in to a proper post so people didn't miss it. I have had this for nearly three months now and on average I like it, most of the time. You may have seen my comment below about it being a real pain in the ass, I have fixed some of my main gripes with it, through settings on my a6600. It has got me out of a bind and allowed me to use my old canon glass which I know and love. My first thing I have found is that you have to turn off pre-af in the sony menu. I have an a6600 and it is on page 6 of the camera 1 menu. My canon lenses were focusing constantly, even in single shot mode and wouldn't stop. Once you turn pre af-off, it will stop and single shoot will work correctly as it should. The second thing I have found was that using version 1.4 of the firmware stopped the aperture from working altogether. I would set an aperture and the live view would get dark then flick back to the original setting. I think this was an issue with version 1.4 because if you go to the download page now only version 1.2 is available and 1.4 has disappeared. Hopefully this means a new version is incoming soon. The third thing I have found out is that you don't need to plug the adaptor in to check what version of the firmware you have. You can do this if you wish, when you plug in the adaptor to your computer it appears like a drive (if you are using a decent cable), and there is a html page in the folder. If you load into into a browser, it will tell you what firmware version you are currently running. You can also go to the version setting in page 6 of the setup menu on your camera (sony a6600). Here it will tell you what firmware the adaptor has. This may sound obvious but I accidentally found this thinking that maybe it would alos tell me if I was in P or C mode. Sadly not, there is still no way as far as I am aware to check, or even to check if it works. I think to make things more complicated, of the two lenses I have here with me on holiday for testing, one works better in P mode and one works better in C mode, hence I seem to get quite erratic behaviour because I never know which mode I am in. If you are listening to this 7 artisans please find a way to send back information of what mode we are in via exif or via the version section in the sony alpha menu. It would be really helpful to work out which mode works better for which lenses. Fourth and final thing I have noticed is that my older lens seems to perform better with wide area focus. It tends to crash the camera if I have center focus on. I am not sure if this is because micro adjustment focus is turned off. I am testing now with micro adjustment turned off to see if I still get the crashing. Please be aware this behavior is only with my old Sigma dg lens and doesnt happen with my canon efs 55-250 IS II. That works fine if a bit slow and loses focus 20% of the time. The sigma is just a beautiful lens and. the one I really want to get working, but it is pretty old now, so it could be a fault of the lens, or maybe needs new firmware??
Update: I have finally worked out how this thing actually works and when you get it, it is really good. I couldn't find this info anywhere else and from the complaints here and in the other video this doesn't seem to be an obvious or well known trait of the adaptor. There is an easy way to know which mode you are in and it is fairly easy to access the two modes. I have tried version 1.2 and 1.4 firmware and they both work the same. When you connect a canon lens, you should connect the lens to the adaptor first. Then connect the two to the camera. This will help you in setting the mode you want to be in. When you connect the adaptor and lens to your camera it will be in contrast detect, unless you hold the C/P button down. You HAVE to hold down the C/P button when you connect the lens and adaptor to turn it to Phase detect mode. How do I know this? Try connecting the adaptor with lens, and focusing. If you see an area box turn green then you are in contrast mode, if instead, you see one or more small green boxes on the screen or EVF in a grid shape, you are in phase detect mode. The two modes work very differently and phase detect turns my old shitty lens into a beast but strangely my canon 55-250 is better in contrast detect than phase. The phase detect is also super fast so if your lenses are focusing slowly and seem to jump past the focus point and then creep back, then you are still in contrast detect. The native Sony lenses flick between these modes depending on the situation so I am not sure why the adaptor has to specify these modes separately but if you have the adaptor and a number of canon lenses then try the two modes out for each lens. Either of the modes seem to work better for different lenses so you should try both on all your lenses. I still also recommend turning off Pre-AF in the sony menus, because it just adds to the confusion. I think that only works well in Phase mode, because in contrast mode, it tried to focus the camera constantly without my touching the shutter button. I hope this helps people having issues, get their head around the adaptor. Once you can use the C/P modes correctly the adaptor takes on a whole new level. It is actually pretty awesome. I just wish I knew this at the start and not 4 months later.
Would metabones mk 5 be a better adapter? It’s expensive but this sounds like a pain to deal with.
I just updated the Sony FX30 to 5.0 firmware and now my adapter isn't doing AF. It's on the 1.2 firmware. I've heard others have had no issues. Do you know anyone with the 1.4 firmware for the adapter as I can't seem to find it anywhere :)

@@casamusicrevisao No
Well sir, I just bought a Sony FX30 and this lens adapter and tested it on all my lenses. Here's my report: Only 1 of my lenses doesn't work with the autofocus at all, and that is my Canon 50mm f/1.4. The rest of my lenses work almost flawlessly. Occasionally, either the autofocus stops working or I lose lens information and can't change the aperture. Whenever this happens (it's not super often), simply disengaging the lens and reconnecting it solves the issue. Those almost-flawless lenses are: Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 IS L, Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L, Canon EF 70-300mm, f/3.5-5.6 IS, Tamron EF-S 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 VC
Thanks for the great info, I just got a A7Cii and have a lot of EF Glasss. If I get time I’ll do a scroll myself. One thing I’d say is my Sony A7s3 works perfect with Sony firmware 2.11 in the camera. A tried it on firmware 3.0 and the video autofocus didn’t work well so I’m sticking to firmware 2.11 and will not be updating. I may do a video about that. One word of potential warning I might say is that there seems to some disparity in comments from people, whether there is firmware comb between adapter firmware or camera that creates a hiccup Is possible. Or there could production issue with some working better than others. Perhaps test or buy with the option of returning if it doesn’t work as planned. That said it’s been a life and money saver for me over the past year. The AF function has been as native for the age of the lenses I’ve used which are older being EF.
This channel is underrated. Thanks for great share!
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback.
Hi, If I use Canon's EF 24-105 F4 lens and put it on a SONY full-frame camera, will I need to turn on the APS-C mode? Will there be black corners? Thank you
You can use the EF 24-104 which I think is a FULL Frame lens on a sony full frame so you should not have a problem. AF function depends on the camera / adapter / firmware. Are you looking to get an adapter or do you already have one?
As always your 'demo' video is very well done, with excellent framing, interesting camera angles and coloring changes, lens flares, overlays and perfectly synchronized music. Great job!
In my experience all cross brands adapters have some sort of problems. Even the best ones. The same brand adapters works better, being the Canon EF to RF the best one. When you have proven that your combination of lens + adapter + camera work, just keep it, but don't trust with another camera model or another lens.
🎉🎉🎉 great edit and great lens it seems
I’m using this adapter with the a7slll and a canon 70-200 IS L (version one) I’m getting very poor results with the auto focus. I haven’t updated the firmware. I also didn’t realize that there was a button for phase detection or contrast based auto focus. Do you think that could be the problem?
what firmware is your A7sm3?
I’m running firmware 0.1.2
@@minutesbackI just tried both my Sigma lenses and they work fine but I’m getting false aperture readings. I can’t tell if it’s the Canon lens, the adapter, or the firmware ??
@@MyMarketingGuy101 BTW I don't the firmware of the adaptor but the camera. My camera is on 2.11. think. The later version t3 of sony's update made my lenses not work so I'm sticking with version 2.11 which work great. I've never updated the firmware of my adapter.
@@minutesback thanks for your insight I thought that this would have worked flawlessly for me since I have the same exact camera. I have an updated my camera since they released the sone update about three or four years ago. I heard really bad things about the latest Sony update, so I decided not to do it. I also replied to your comment on the 7artisans video about this adapter a few minutes ago. It really seems like they have some serious quality control issues because so many people are reporting so many different problems. I think this company makes awesome cinema lenses and I’m about to release a video review on one of their lenses. That’s the irony of all of this, I really wanted to love this adapter!
Had anyone tried it on Sony a7iv (full frame) and a lens with tamron 70-200 2.8 canon mount?
Let me know if it worked
Sony dropped the ball with this one. Big time.
@@sa.t.2507 what would you say is the biggest problem with it?
@@minutesback 1. No 50/60p in full frame 8.6K 2. It has the same sensor as a Sony a1 but not the full frame 4K 120p. Instead the BURRITO has to crop to 2x, to achieve those lovely high frame rates. 3. Horrible IR-polution that should never be happening on a CineAlta-camera. 4. It cannot output a 4K feed with a LUT in most modes, and cannot shoot full frame 4K 120fps even though the same sensor has this capability in the Sony a1. There’s no uncompressed internal RAW recording, you know… like your Canon 5D Mark II has. The X-OCN codec is compressed RAW, and it remains to be seen what RED thinks of that. 5. The camera forgets certain critical setting when you go from full frame 8.6K to cropped mode in order to get slow motion. This is a major issue that plagued us FX9 users and were never adressed.
@@sa.t.2507 yeah for the money I think defo 4K 120 without crop should be in it, even downsampled should have been good. I wonder if they will release any of these settings.
@@sa.t.2507 I love you called it a burrito too 🤣🤣🤣🤣. My video was worth it just for that.
@@sa.t.2507 that last point with the FX9 is unbelievable, I’ve not used that camera all that much so never ran into that before so amazed it’s hasn’t been fixed. What do you shoot now in 2024?
Dude. Only 3 minutes into it but this is great. Well played.
@@ZoenzoD53_OW2 thanks 😇
What about photography? It works any good?
@@papolini109 yes, most adapters work fine for photos it’s the video side that is generally problematic
Too expensive for what it is…..
@@Sneaky-Sneaky yeah that is the elephant in the room. It maybe more of a rental option for many who don’t want make such a big investment. What do think its nearest neighbour would be?
@@minutesback Well … not too sure….if you’re looking for a new tech recent release but a lot cheaper something like a Canon C400 at 8000….if you want to go older there is some good 35mm cinema cameras like the VaricamLT etc. At about 10,000….
@@Sneaky-Sneaky yeah the C400 with the triple native iso is a great addition.
2:35 how did you shoot the 80-200mm @ 70mm??? Or is this the 70-200?
Ha, looks like I made a graphic mistake it was at 80mm on the 80-200 I just meant to show it at the wide end in this case 80 and not 70. Thanks for spotting and letting me know I missed that.
The Tokina is an excellent lens. Unless you turn off all settings that assist in distortion or any chromatic aberations etc it will not work. I tried it on an R7 and almost tossed the lens until I turned everything off in sttings because Canon will not work well with 3rd part lenses. Once I turne off all the settings the Tokina is an excellent video lens so not sure what you are doinf but I had no issue even on an 80D and R7 which is what the lens is made for.
Hey, I like this lens I used it on an event this week and it was great although I used on a sony a7sm3 with AF which actually worked better. I don't use it for photography but for video it is great. This video example was a use case however if I was using on a R6 again I would prefer the 16mm but I only own the 11-16 Tokina.
Logical choice for working with a gimbal is the RF 16mm, Tokina is too heavy. What I'm wondering is, are you sure you turned off the stabilization in the camera when you used Tokina and had wobbly angles, because that problem shouldn't occur when the stabilization is turned off?
@@ivandj707 I did loads of tests with and without. From memory you are probably right but seem to remember that even on the wide angle side of 11 is may have still done some strangeness even on a gimbal so the best was on a gimbal at around 16mm. Defo not hand held. To be fair with was over a year ago now so I’d have to go back and re test. Either I know on a gimbal it’s still great for short spells. I am literally looking at using it tomorrow 😇 as I no longer have the RF 16mm.
Hi, great video! I just received my adapter, but unfortunately the autofocus does not work during recording. I have an A7SIII on version 3.01 and use the Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art. Any ideas?
@@SimonKage do you have any other lenses to try it with? Dam sorry to hear that, have checked the contact point by rotating on or off again? I did have 1 tamron 70-300 it didn’t like and some which have been faster than other but a modern lens like the sigma 35mm I wouldn’t have thought would be a problem. Have you or can you update the firmware of the sigma? Or try a different EF lens to check if the adapter itself is working.
@@minutesback Another Canon lens is coming tomorrow, I'll try it out 👍 I'll get back to you tomorrow! Thanks for the quick answer!
@@minutesback Today the Canon lens arrived and unfortunately it doesn't work with the adapter either. I think the adapter can't cope with the 3.01 software.
@@SimonKage I’m on 2.11. I’ve not yet upgraded. I’ve been meaning to update but not done so yet. Have you tried updating the firmware of the adapter?
@@minutesback Yes, and unfortunately it made no difference. I heard that the 3.00 software was developed based on the a6700, which had a lot of problems with the adapter.
🎉🎉🎉🎉
Did 7Artisans remove the firmware from their webpage? i can't seem to find any link to firmware or uploading software on their site.
@@benyyz I’ve not heard about being removed but I must say their site isn’t easy to navigate. Did you manage to find it?
