    So those come in 120v and 240v variants. The 120v model uses 2000 watts and the 240 uses 3500 watts. Is it always a 90 minute cycle time? If one went with the 120v model that would use 3kwh on a 90 minute cycle. Totally doable for me in the summer with my 8 kw of solar panels but I don't know about during the winter with the short and overcast days. Don't want to run my battery bank out for when my fridge needs to run or I need to cook or bake something on the electric range.

    • @TinyIndustrial

      Not entirely sure what you mean. The vertical 2x12 attaches to the vertical part of the 90 degree angle on the top edge of the trailer and the horizontal 2x12 attaches to the horizontal part of the right angle on the trailer (via bolts and nuts). Then for good measure I connect the horizontal 2x12 to the vertical one with some construction screws. It's a REALLY secure connection to the trailer that's created in this fashion. I'm not sure if what you are describing would improve on that.

    So i have a question. I have been using Shou Sugi Ban for all of the cedar trim around my house and wanted to see if you had any advice on keeping the color when in direct sunlight. I have a few window shutters that i burnt and sealed with a poly/nano outdoor sealer that has already faded back to natural cedar color. Im going to redo these and wanted to see what works best if you would know. I dont mind having to reapply a sealer every year, but need something that lasts longer than a few months. I appreciate any information you can provide for long term color.

    • @TinyIndustrial
      @TinyIndustrial 17 днів тому

      I'm not sure that I have a good answer for you. I would think that some sort of UV resistant/blocking treatment would work the best since it's ultimately the sun that is causing the change in color. Not sure what product that would be, but that would be my best guess. Something like this maybe: amzn.to/3YOmrLR

    Can you speak to maintenance? I realize it will depend on climate. I live in Nova Scotia Canada, so a bit moist, salt in the air (by the ocean). Wondering when to expect my first maintenance, w2nd maintenance, etc… and what they will involve?

    • @TinyIndustrial
      @TinyIndustrial 17 днів тому

      Hi. Maintenance that I have performed is reapplication of linseed oil on occasion. I think that the wood will 'let you know' when it needs something from a visual standpoint. This process certainly helps with preservation, but the chemicals in pressure treated wood are definitely more effective in that regard...but I would argue that pressure treated wood is really ugly to look at even if it's less maintenance.

    According to the charger specs, it does accept 12V through the XT-60 input cable. The problem as I see it, is not the voltage input at 12v (because these little hydro electrics do output 12v) the reason they don’t recharge is the current is at 10 watts, approximately 220 milliamps. Based on the DC input from the solar charging spec, you will need 200 watts = 10x mini generators running in parallel. That roughly equates to 2200 miliamps (2.2 Amps). There is likely a minimum threshold of 2amps on the input for the charger to actually charge. At that rate , it will take 3-5 hours of constant water pressure to fully charge. You would be better off purchasing the the solar cells and charging it that way (as intended)

    • @TinyIndustrial
      @TinyIndustrial 17 днів тому

      Yes, that was my takeaway as well, that solar would likely be (much) more effective. It was a fun thing to try out though. I'm happy that I tried it. :) Thanks for the comment.

    Our off-grid stationary tiny house has a bucket with a snap-on lid for #2 and personal pee pots for #1. We don't even have a box. It works but I always enjoy flush toilet experiences. With the snap-closed top, it doesn't need venting. There's no smell except the usual problem of stinkiness at the moment of the act. We eliminate that smell with an essential oil spray. Emptying the bucket every 7-10 days is no big deal--not even as gross as changing a dirty diaper. We dump it in the compost bin and cover it with alfalfa. Everyone dumps their pee pot daily. The Portable Emergency Lid is better than the Luggable Loo Lid. Low tech. Low cost. Low maintenance. No electricity. No plastic beyond the bucket and lid. Only enough water to rinse out the bucket. Crushed dried leaves and peat are the best cover. Wood chips will not break down at all--bad experience. We've been doing this for 4 years--no problem. But if I had to do it again, I would have plumbed a flush toilet and installed a septic system. But that's just me.

    We are doing our deck. What do you recommend coating it with that won’t be slippery?

    • @TinyIndustrial
      @TinyIndustrial Місяць тому

      Well the oiling of the wood would only leave the wood 'slippery' for a short while. Once the oil soaks in and any excess is wiped off, there is no more sheen or slipperiness. I just did a brand new video where I do a cedar plank with this method. That really looks the best to me. I worry a bit about cedar being kind of soft, but from a looks perspective, cedar (oiled) can't be beat. I was shocked how good it turned out (ua-cam.com/video/HAo9ZEt11Co/v-deo.html). Check that out. We are going to be doing a deck redo next spring here as well and I'm leaning heavily towards Shou Sugi Ban cedar as the material of choice. Are you using pine? I'm not sure I would trust that for extra long longevity...although it is reasonably inexpensive and plentiful. What are your thoughts?

      Yup, that's exactly right. Thanks for the comment.

    I have to agree with you, I like the medium burn.

      Thanks! I have secretly been liking the darker burns a bit more lately. Don't tell anyone though.

    Ever tried the old motor oil/diesel finish? I'm going to have to try it as I love the way it mellows wood

      Thank you so much for suggesting that. I just shot a video using that method. Will be posting it shortly! Much appreciated. Keep the suggestions coming.

    Cost of Electric toilet vs. water toilet on a monthly basis, Electric bill vs. Water bill. I am interested to know the difference between traditional vs. electric. Is there any cost savings either way?

    • @TinyIndustrial
      @TinyIndustrial Місяць тому

      Water toilet would likely be cheaper. It's not so much about cost to operate. Rather it comes down to what you have available to you that will determine what kind of toilet makes sense in a given scenario. An incinerating toilet makes a lot of sense if you don't have running water but have an electricity source. Even if an electric toilet might be more expensive to acquire and operate. Know what I mean?

    You need a DC charger to charge the battery

      The little hydros are putting out DC. I'm going in on the the solar panel input on the battery power supply. That 'should' work if they were putting out any kind of meaningful juice, no?

    Is this for an outdoor deck?

      It could be! Could be siding. Could be a fence. Could be furniture. Whatever you want to make with it. What do you want to make with it?
