Tampons STILL toxic in 2024, study revealed. A call for change and support for menstruators.
Hey everyone, I hope you're doing well and are having a flare-free day.
Today's video is slightly different for me. I'm heated and I'm angry at what I've read this morning in the news. A 2024 study (out of the University of Berkely California) revealed that certain tampon products on the market contain "toxic levels" of lead and arsenic (as well as other harmful chemicals). 30 tampons were tested from 14 unique brands - including organic and non-organic products - and all were shown to have concerning levels of toxins, including arsenic and lead.
Now, am I surprised that tampons and period products have chemicals in them STILL in 2024? Well, no. I feel like society is still behind on funding and research when it comes to investigating menstrual health and wellness, including the impacts that period products may have on individuals' health / wellbeing. I'm frustrated because there isn't a spectrum when talking about period / menstrual health. Either we can't talk about periods in society because they're "gross" or "taboo" OR if we talk about them, it's to reveal that the products menstruators use are riddled with toxic levels of chemicals (without a proper solution to addressing the problem or educating menstruators on how to protect themselves from said chemicals). It's as if it's the menstruators problem to now solve - when the problem actually sits with companies and a lack of regulatory oversight.
The article was great to inform the public on the issue - public awareness on these issues are vital. However, more needed to be said. More needed to be provided and supported to the individual reading. Washing your hands before using the product is important, not wearing them for a long period of time is important. But these are general rules that come with using the period product (something that can be read on the back of packaging). How do we address the chemicals still left in these products? Why are we continuing to promote said product without introducing or promoting alternatives? It felt as though the consumer is still expected to use these products - knowing the risks without proper alternatives presented - while they wait for research on the risks in the coming years. It isn't fair.
I'd love to hear your thoughts down below and whether you've heard about this issue in the past. I'd also be curious to know if you have a period brand top of mind that is leading the way on addressing toxic chemicals found in products.
Companies in the period market. You're in business to support menstruators - to provide safe and effective options for them monthly. You make a profit off of selling these products to consumers. Let's change the way business is done. I challenge you to be the first - or at least the leading company - to update the standard on what society expects on these products.

ONE WHOLE YEAR OF MOTHERHOOD WITH A CHRONIC ILLNESS | EMOTIONAL UPDATE ON WHAT I LEARNED THIS YEAR
This is exactly my experience too. I feel like I’m being stabbed repeatedly in my ovaries and surrounding area by multiple knives all at once. Same with one pain down my thigh, to the point where I feel like I wish I could just cut it off to relieve the pain. My cramps during periods were like labour contractions (they have eased since getting an implant). I would be in the bathroom for hours vomiting profusely and also with diarrhoea. Absolute hell. Sorry if that description is too graphic.
Menstrual cups and discs are great alternatives. Personally, I'm using a lily cup and I love it. The risk of getting TSS is almost non existent and they can last for years.
Support for menstruators? Support for women, I’m so sick of people refusing to say woman like it’s a bad word, it’s so f%king offensive
Took 20 years for me to get diagnosed with endometriosis. Hopefull tough to cure it with food and lifestyle changes ❤️
Hi from Argentina, yesterday I received my diagnose of kissing ovaries and a posibilitty of adenomiosis. Im 41, I have 2 children. What should I do?
Period underwear is a great option! its the best out there in my opinion! it is sustainable and more expensive up front but SO worth every penny! Everie woman is a good brand too!
Thank you for making this! Always on birth control pills (since 16) or an IUD (after my two kids), I never knew I had it. While trying for my last baby at 42, I knew I had Endo belly. I was walking around everyday thinking I looked pregnant, but I wasn't. I swore I had it. I talked to my Dr. at the time I got out my last IUD, and was having lots of pain, that I couldn't have had Endo bc I would have known I had it early on. So, I believed her. In the back of mind, I knew I had it. So please, please....get those first, second, third or 100 opinions until someone takes you seriously. You are not crazy and it's not all in your head. Maybe it's not Endo, but maybe it's something else you have. Doesn't matter, get someone to listen and help you.
Stopped using tampons. Used them all my life. Saw some vids on women that almost died using them. I finally just made the choice to use pads. Even though it's kind of annoying it's better for you. Also been meaning to try the period panties but they make them a little expensive, but I def want to try them out.
Hi! New sub here! I'm 44 and recently diagnosed with Endo Dec of last year. (Sound crazy) After I had a tarot reading, my spirit baby told me to go to the Dr. and get this looked at after putting off the pain for a year. I had surgery for it and it's been better but I can still feel it growing and reforming again. Trying to get pregnant later in life helped me find it and my fertility I feel is coming back after the laparoscopy. I'll especially enjoy watching these vids and can't wait to really dive in . I'd love to share my story with anyone who's been diagnosed so much later in life with it, and what we've been through. Much love to all!
I recommend cloth pads. As a a transgender man, I used to use disposable pads for my period. It was horrible and I later found cloth pads to be chemical-free, easy to clean in the laundry machines, and easy to take care of when it comes to storing them. That is why I recommend cloth pads. Also, they are free from toxins.
Thank you soo much🙏💪✌️🫶💜
Thank you. This is very helpful. 🥰 God bless you 😇
Another study where they do not include women in their research 🤦🏻♀️
If they didn’t research relative concentration nor solubility (e.g., was the cheap one higher in lead or was its lead more soluble), then even this video says too little.
Use a pad. I won't even put a cup inside
Yeah, you don't know (even tho it's extremely possible 🤨) but shouldn't the possibility of lead poisoning your organism stop you from using Tampons and be loud about this health risk?!
Absolutely - this is a shorter video from a longer one on my channel where I challenge the article / research to go further.
Of course it does.
I’ve been spotting for 9 months now.
I just found out I have adenomyosis after having 4 kids. I didn’t find out until my birth control was taken out
Thank you for the encouragement
Thank you ! I am a 43yr old mama of 2. I just got diagnosed with fibroids and Adenomyosis. I am searching for answers!
How do i get involved in America to advocate
Could I get involved in Canada or would I have to live there
ua-cam.com/video/kszMaZ6581E/v-deo.html&si=fu1i3Krl3pDjPvS- this is very informative
Just resently have been trying period panties i cant find much research tho
ua-cam.com/video/NB4jZCxRkTw/v-deo.html&si=8ksofYoWkjJmVXIW She ⬆️ almost died from tampon. I personally don’t use tampons but even pads have harsh chemicals. I use the organic pads but I’m afraid that even the organic ones aren’t as organic as we think they are but they’re a better choice.
A new study said most pads have lead and the organic ones have arsonic iv been trying period panties resently
@@143purplePeriod panties also have toxins!
I am taking metrinelle and it has been amazing for me, my hormones have been balanced and the anxiety and intrusive thoughts are gone, trust the proccess and find good doctors and God.
Not a social media myself. I have UA-cam and Pinterest. I love the old fashion way of meeting people. Just know I'm happy to have found your channel. Your a beautiful soul.✨Thank you!
I tell my husband it feels as if I’ve done an intense workout without working out. I wake crying. I hope I find out what’s going on very soon… Thank you. I’m happy I found your channel. ✌🏼
Thanks for making this video! I‘ve got diagnosed today (though the doctor didn’t mention endometriosis) and have just started the research engine. 😄 I have one question: Does it make sense to research endometriosis as well? (Like: is it the sister or a distant cousin of endo.)
Hey! Thanks so much for your comment. First off - I hope you're feeling well after receiving your diagnosis. I know that day can bring a mix of emotions, so I'm thinking of you! Typically with Adenomyosis and the presentation of Endometriosis alongside it - 40-50% of individuals experience / live with both.
I really hope the medical system do more research and study about endo.. The pain was unbearable, its hard to think how to live with endo..
Thanks Angel 🙏🏻💙 all the best for your endo journey!! I start feeling leg pains only now .. at 42 😢 sending you all good and healing vibes ❤️🩹
Thanks for connecting the dots between sciatica and endometriosis. I did some sciatica stretches and it helped a bit. I also got a sciatica chair cushion and it helps too. Hoping everyone finds relief and things that help manage this.
I have endometriosis and PCOS, i also have a full 8 day heavy and very painful period, ive had my period since i was 11 (Im 20) and since i started menstruation ive always had excruciating cramps, back pain, leg pain, migraines, extreme fatigue etc , i was only diagnosed at 16 though with both health conditions, its horrible and i pray for all women like me out there that eventually a cure is made for this horrible disease
Thank you for this information God bless you
Woo, love period chat
Thank you for your channel. You are very articulate and have a lovely way of presenting the information in a sincere and friendly way. I wish you well in your ongoing endo journey and life as a mum. ❤ As i say, thanks for being open with us about your own experiences. It's brave and very helpful.
Wow thanks for the great video, I am in the progress of getting diagnosed for possible endometriosis, I kind of got a shock as just realized the bleeding from bowel movements might not be just because sometimes I am constipated 😮 I am going into theatre at the end of this month for internal camera investigations and tissue testing etc..
Thinking of you with your upcoming appointment!
I have been diagnosed with it after 16 years after my hysterectomy. Im 58 years old. Its in my pelvis, throughout my colon and maybe even within my chest cavity as i have classic thoracic endo symptoms including pains in right shoulder and shooting pains in right side of neck especially when yawning or deep breathing , also pains the back of my neck. I also have had major trouble with liver, blood tests show this and i also have terrible painful spasms in liver, so could be there too. P.s im a non drinker.
What about founding to get more excision specialists? We barely have any and the ones we do still focus on are ob/gyn as well and often to treat complicated endo we have to go out of country
I’m a curled ball girlie too 🥹(Endo/adeno/fibroids/ fibro) with chronic pain daily 🤦🏾♀️ great video and great differentiation between primary and secondary dysmenorrhea ❤ and I agree pelvic floor therapy is good too x
I am taking thia still i am having bleeding.. i am having pain .. what to do dont know
Anyone else post hysterectomy and getting flares and daily pain?
Hey did you ever get surgery for your endometriosis?
I appreciate you making this so much. I played competitive field hockey for 5+ years, and due to injuries and endo had to give it up. It is the best stress reliever for me, but is so difficult to accept that my body cannot perform like I used to. Had a hard day today as I pushed myself past my limit, (years ago I could perform at this rate no problem). I appreciate your advice so much on not letting endo dictate your body’s capabilities, while staying in your capacity. The walking tip was so, so helpful-plan to incorporate that :)
I was diagnosed with endometriosis 6 months ago and on my last visit to the gynec they found a chocolate cyst in my right ovary. I have been on dinogest since, hoping it helps with the pain and shrinks the size of the cysts. I just wanted to say thanks for advocating for endo, sometimes it feels better to know that there are other women out there I could reach out to who are going through something similar. :)
I have been suffering from bleeding, and have had a doctor ask me if i was sure it was not just my period blood... :( When Im on my period, the blood is so different when it is from my bowels vs my period. I then suffer from constantly needing to go to the bathroom, feeling like I need to poo but nothing passes. I suffer from diarrhoae and constipation simultaneously which ends up with me feeling like I am severely bloated which really scares me because its so painful. On a good day, I regularly go to the bathroom and pass just mucus and very rarely small hard nuggets surrounded by bloody mucus.... I have gone and had tests and yet everything has come back negative: IBS, crohns. I am still waiting for an endometriosis diagnosis and really struggling as have had so many doctor appointments and mentionned the bleeding and the pains, but Im still waiting for a solution. Your video makes me feel 100% certain that I have bowel endometriosis, but am at a loss at what I need to do get back to feeling normal again!
As someone with pcos and possibly endo, i just want to clarify that while pcos is focused on the ovaries, i would say it can also be a full body disease depending on how you define it. Your endocrine system malfunctioning affects your entire body, with fatigue, brain fog, and emotional disruption, as well as the physical symptoms of excess testosterone. ❤
Hey I just wanted to say that this was REALLY helpful. Just recently got told I need an MRI because I have this, but they didn’t explain it in depth. So this was really helpful to learn about, thank you.
I have Endometriosis
I'm having all these symptoms and my laparoscopic diagnostic for endometriosis is this Friday coming up
I’m thinking of you with your upcoming appointment!
