    Unfortunately I have to replace my cam and lifters on my 2014 300s at 171,000 miles. Started ticking at 100,000. I won’t be buying another dodge I was told go full non mds cam and lifters so I bought the whole set up with the tuner gaskets and all. 1300 just for that and caught a deal for 1600 in labor it sucks. I wanted a challenger Rt or scat but I’m going to just pass goodbye dodge. Luckily I have my Chevy Malibu as a back up with 250,000 miles never had no serious motor issues with it other than a regular tune up. As a matter of fact all the cars I’ve owned from mustang to my infamous 2004 Pontiac gtp got well over 360,000 miles never had to tear down the top of the motor

    Just got a 2020 charger v8, and this feature is able to keep my mpg at 20.8 mpg with a 91 gas, not too bad for a big V8 car. To compare, my turbo 4 KIA Sorento SUV pulls in about the same MPG. V8 vs V4 SUV for the same mpg, yeah not too bad.

I've always drove ford f150 and toyota tundras so I want to try something different got tired of spending 48 to 50k on a truck. I bought this used and it had 12k miles on it so I really dont know enough about these motors weather they are reliable or not. All my friends told me that these are great trucks!

      Super reliable engines, if you have a 2009-2024 Ram Truck with the 5.7L HEMI, I would highly recommend upgrading your oil pump to a Hellcat/TRX Oil Pump to prevent oil starvation on the MDS lifters along with the rest of the engine, that way your constantly getting pressurized oil on all of the internal components at all times while driving And make sure to NOT EVER idle your HEMI for very long periods of time, this is where your lifters can fail. And make sure to ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS be on time with your oil changes, and never go past 3,000 Miles, or else you will accelerate the failure.

  • @horsingnaturally2244
    @horsingnaturally2244 5 років тому

    Yep! And that explains the many thousands of Hemi owners after around 2007 losing MDS lifters that eventually destroy camshaft lobes. Our 2012 just bit the bullet a few days ago with less than 105,000 miles, but started at about 94,000 miles. And the "Hemi Tick" which Chrysler and their paid disinformation trolls will say, "Hemi tick is normal"! Such a freaking lie. And for you Mopar fans still in denial about the so-called, "rare" lifter and camshaft failure on Hemi engines, then you might want to explain to the rest of us with bad luck why there is a huge 2 to 3 month back log for lifter replacements? LOL Chrysler knows of this problem and will eventually find a solution. But they are screwing their customers into forking up the $3k to $4k repair costs and long delays. They built a high performance engine using low performance parts. While I enjoy the powerful hemi, I detest premature failure of a camshaft caused by failed lifter rollers because the MDS cuts oil pressure to allow for lifter collapse. Oil pressure expands the lifter. What a dumna$$ idea. Chrysler engineers are not too bright. My 1999 Suburban has out lasted all 3 Mopar vehicles we have owned. 1997 Srratus...lost head gasket causing oil leak at 54,000 mikes. Engine sized up. 2002 Stratus loat water pumo and timing chain at 98,000 miles despite previous pump and chain replacement 3 months prior...engine over heated without warning and destroyed the engine. And now our 2012 Hemi just lost a lifter and has likely damaged the camahaft lobe. Man I love my Chevy with nearly 300,000 miles and still going.

    doesnt the compression and decompression of the 4 cylinders cause parasitic drag on the engine?

    • @danielorsborn9464
      @danielorsborn9464 6 років тому

      Minutley, but no different than the rest of the Drivelineand oil pump. The NONfiring cylinder is kept in a vacuum on the upstroke (power and compression stages) so parasitic load is on the down-stroke only (Exhaust and intake Stage) . Every moving part in an engine contributes to parasitic load.

    • @SH00T_TH3PUMP
      @SH00T_TH3PUMP 3 роки тому

      Energy produced, is repetitious to energy absorbed. The compression that the deactivated pistons produce, is the same energy used to push them back down hence creating a cushion effect. No compression drag when deactivated. If if there was, it's too minimal to effect efficiency.

    • @slacinace
      @slacinace 3 роки тому

      @@danielorsborn9464 yes obviously every friction point is power loss. This question was 3 years ago lol, its not a minute loss of power, its a lot. to conserve minimize fuel consumption while keeping your speed, losing 4 cylinders wont add a small amount of drag, its a lot. 4 cylinders pushing momentum through 4 dead cylinders and a drivetrain vs 8 barely pushing the drivetrain.

      About as usefull as ford using start stop "technology" or chevy shutting off injectors on the highway. It may prolong your fuel capabilities but causes hell on internals. They need to get rid of all pushrods and go with overhead cams. You can do so much more with variable timing when the cames are on top and theres less parts that need to move leaving much less parasitic loads
