2014 was a very challenging year at work for Timothy, no vacation time. Shelly started a new job at Wells Fargo and has no vacation time, so Timothy popped over to Aruba to burn up some vacation otherwise loses it. Very nice place to vacation, I went on the super cheap (room and brought most of the food). Did lots of walking, beach, swimming and the public transportation. I went at the busiest ...

This is great where do I get that part at
I updated the details, just saw that Amazon still has them. Been running this solution for 5 years now, not issues.
My Dad (who passed last Dec) had 2 bugs he commuted to work nightly as we grew up. My mother learned how to drive a stick shift in the late 60's which a rare thing for a lady and this ended up being my brothers first car when he got his Driver's License. That thing had slotted chrome rims, the best stereo Alpine system w/ Kenwood speakers and was a super clean car b/c my family kept all their vehicles in mint condition. People to this day will comment on social media about his car. Unfortunately, he was the family member that lost his battle w/ cancer at 35 years old (w/ a 3 year old son at the time). My mom lost her battle in '08, but my dad went to the ripe old age of 85! Love you "Pops!" I bought one and currently started back restoring after a 2 year layoff b/c of personal reason. I want to dedicate it when finish to them all!!! This story touched my soul and made me smile b/c we have many pictures of our younger days w/ that old bug! I hope to finish this (in Florida) by Winter's end. Wish me luck and great job to these family members from past and present!!! :)
Hey Keith, sorry to be delayed on this response. Along my labor of love of this restore, I constantly asked my departed owners "what would you do" for paint, not staying stock on this or that, should I spend for X, on and on, they were with my whether they wanted to or not. You know, probably not, but in spirit and my heart their memory is kept alive, until the bug hit the streets. Now there is a whole other chapter, people just love the bugs, so my departed family members get the love, not me, its for them. They gotta be happy with that outcome. For some reason they loved their bug, and now I do!!! I wish you tons of enjoyment, greasy hands, busted knuckles and googling Samba on your journey and destination for your bug. It is well worth it when you want to take a drive. You will be someone in your bug, when you get into your other daily driver you will be invisible/just another car, such an odd thing this bug world is. What part of Florida? Am near Miami.
@@CapnTimbo Thx for response! Lots of love and respect for that! I live at the beaches near Clearwater!
Et moi ça à la poubelle
عمل ممتاز جدا جدا وعاشت اليدي ❤
Many thanks, I really appreciate your note, never gets old hearing from a beetle lover.
You have the wrong engine compartment lid is from a 1971 lid 1972 had 4 compartment vents not 2
Ha, had no idea, my son picked it up at a junkyard, I never looked into it. Any idea what is behind the change by VW, more air or firmer design, or?
Sweet, just the way it should be done.
Thanks a bunch, just a joy to drive and the smiles from everyone makes it all worth it!
Works for me. Thanks.
Great solutions! 🙌
Justin’s video was the saddest thing I’ve ever seen …. So well made…. It captures him perfectly:). I’m so glad I found pineapple princess and the vw restoration video a couple of days after I discovered of Justin’s death…. I absolutely CAN NOT believe it….. He is one of my top 10 “characters” in my personal play …. 2:57 of allllll. Time……. He was truly like a brother….. I had No Idea of his tragic end until a few days ago ….. my mom has still been sending him birthday and Christmas cards every year…. He was also great friends with my youngest brother Brad is almost as distraught, shocked, and sad as I am about his passing….. I am so sorry you lost your brother….. and then wonderful, sweet, unique, outstanding Justin Mathew……. A truly great man you spawned….. I will think of him daily for eternity….
You are great at making videos …. Pineapple princess helps a little to counterbalance the surreal feeling of Justin not being here anymore ….. My other brother recently moved to Maui ….. I went there twice with my family when I was young ….. beautiful place…. The video was so quirky and cute …. It reminded me of something Justin would have created ……. And to see the Volkswagen he spoke of to me ……. For years…….. to see you guys bring it back to life was very uplifting…. Thank you and make some more videos ….. (happy ones:). Best to you and Shelly…….
Must wait for 9
Was one of the greatest …. I’ve met a mere handful of truly wonderful people in my lifetime ….. and he was definitely, positively….. one of the great ones ……. I am forever severely humbled ……. So so to the others closest to him….. I just found out yesterday….. and I’m so sorry …..
So sorry for everyone who knew him and all those who didn’t get the pleasure to …..
Damn, you weren't kidding when you said restoration. You did a great job.
John, thanks a bunch for nice note, turns out this was only the beginning, "Timothy is working on the bug" has become a typical response from my wife when someone is asking where am I! But everyone loves the bug and it's a blast to drive, well worth the effort. You got a bug or getting one?
So inspirational. ❤

What a wonderful job!! May you enjoy it for many years to come! 😊
Muito bom ficou perfeito 👌💯
This is awesome! My favorite part was seeing the VW go for a spin at the halfway mark with the doors and trunk off! Thank you for sharing and well done video! Rob
Thanks for watching Rob. The super trained eye will notice the engine bouncing at the stop sign, forgot to add the Bowden tube, NEVER forget it or you will rattle your teeth out.
Wow, buen trabajo, excelente vw Felicidades!
The result can only be described as excellent .... sure brings back memories - I had 4 bugs ...
Would you be up for the challenge of restoring another one and if so how much would you charge?
Andrew, at this time we our doing a mobile lifestyle, once we are back in a house then would love to work on another bug.
Great video, I have a question for you though I'm about to restore my 71 super beetle and am wondering how you stripped and painted the vent area just below the rear window. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Wilbur, I did not have access to a sandblaster but that would be preferred. I used airplane paint stripper and just kept brushing it into the cracks as far as possible. Then used a pressure washer with the highest pressure and narrowest nozzle and gave it hell. The issue at that point was going to be rust so as soon as it looked dry sprayed a bunch of pain prep using a nozzle into the area. It was not like that very long after that we primed and painted it. It's been a few years since we painted it, not seeing any issues in this Florida humidity and salt air.
@@CapnTimbo thanks so much for your response, like I said was just making a list of all the areas that need work (a lot sadly) but most were areas that had easy access so thanks again for the advice
😃😃😃👍👍👍👍👍
Saw the KONG radio sticker on the back window in the beginning, car was from Kauai?
Funny story, the car spent most of its life in Seatle, my older brother spent 4 weeks in Kauai after Iniki doing insurance stuff and brought back the sticker, the funny thing is there is an earlier post here from a DJ at that radio station at the same time my brother was there.
@@CapnTimbo nice work BTW, hopefully you are still enjoying your ride. I have a 66 bug on Kauai and appreciate watching the vid. ✌️
Thank you for the kind words, there is a little bit more to the story, I inherited the car from my son when he passed and did not know what to do with it, not a car rebuild guy. My wife and I were on Maui and I was walking and happened across a rebuilt 66 in a parking lot and was curious. Eventually found the owner working in a restaurant and he motived me to rebuild the car. 2 years ago in Maui I found him again and let him know he was my inspiration. Hawaii been my happy place since 1987, respect, respect, respect for your world Bradda! Will be in Big Island soon and this kane is jonesin for some dakine that will broke da mouth!!! Fudakake chicken....

One word. Magnificent !!
Beautiful
Very cool! Anyone in this video from Kaua’i , Hawaii? There was a KQNG radio bumper sticker in the window!! Awesome video!!
My brother spent a month there writing checks for Iniki when he owned the bug, there is a post here from a guy that was a DJ at the same time my brother was there, small world.
Very nice job! Congratulations for the details and original rear lid... Only two remarks: a) Why so small fog lamps? b) The rack over the roof...is terrible!
Those fog lamps are the ones that JBugs was offering, to be honest if any bigger I would break them, so many times working on wiring in trunk that I kept knocking them out of alignment, even yesterday while working on the latch, but they do throw a lot of light. The majority dig the rack, beyond that we have used it a number of times to bring stuff to the beach, chairs and cooler.
@@CapnTimbo 👍😄👍😄👍 In the past, in my old VW 1962, I put the fog lamps, under the front bumper, fixed at 90 ° in the front fenders face, near to the center, besides the front license plate.. Greetings from Brasil 🇧🇷
nice tribute.. well done
Thank you very much!

I have a 1968 Beetle. Looking for a place that can do full restoration here in San Diego, Ca. Any one knows a place ?
Try facebook for beetle groups in your area, they will know.
Very beautiful
Thanks a lot
O M G. do you have detail videos? I just resurrected my 72 super from 10 years of storage. (parents bought it a month before they got married in '72. sold it to me for 2 dollars.) and thinking it may be a good project for the middle schooler and i to spiff some things up on it. ✌
I spent a lot of time on UA-cam getting help on how to do things, there is a ton of video on redoing most parts of the bug, after doing it once and spending another year tweaking things, would do things a lot different, looking back the videos online are right, it was me that needed the experience.
Just now seeing this video. Been working on a bug off and on for way too long. I see you're actually located locally to the Richmond area as well. :)
And then moved to Florida, there is quite a bit more support here for old VW's, I found a guy that helped me with all the things we did not get done in Richmond. Now its dependable and gets a lot of waves and stares, I have learned to keep an eye open for someone trying to get my attention to tell me about their bug of years ago while waiting at a traffic signal.

Nice work. Where did you get the fog/driving light mounting brackets?
I got them jbugs.com, but I have noticed that amazom.com is carrying quite a bit of classic beetle parts, I got the the same alternator from there that jbugs had for less and quicker.
Great video!!!!!!! Great work!!!!
Thank you, but why oh why am I still working on it every weekend? Because everything I did not get around to in the rebuild, like the bearings, are reminding me they are almost 50 years old, I would do things a bit different next time...
Truly wonderful. Both on restoration and built with love for the family.
Thank you my friend, the family is happy for the save, and seems bug lovers where we live are too, its a rare day we go driving that someone does not stop us to tell about their bug stories, did not see that coming.
