Woolly Badger knitting podcast episode 12 | fixing fit, previewing upcoming designs, & plenty more!
On this episode of the Woolly Badger knitting podcast, we’re accidentally talking about fit a lot - from the common perils of raglans (and how compound raglans can fix them) to bust darts, width-based bust adjustments, and nailing the drop of a drop shoulder.
Along the way I’m talking about Chuck, It’s On, my new raglan pattern - including details on the Chuck It’s On KAL - and a whole host of new and upcoming patterns.
We’re moving from the chunky weight Corday cowl all the way through to two new summer designs - via the Jimmigan cardigan and its clever design details that make it a circular yoke cardigan that fits seriously well, the cabled Cynthia sweater with its sneaky bust adjustments, and a beautiful patchwork square blanket.
Plus, I’m giving my views on some Filcolana yarns (in particular Alva and Perilla), chatting a bit about bobbling, and kind of reviewing the KnitPro Mindful needles. Spoiler alert: I’ve got a new favourite needle.

Working brioche in the flat is different from working in the round. You only are working flat so the name of the post is misleading. Working on the round would mean coming back to the first worked stitch and working across - you are always working from the last worked stitch.

Hi! At the end of the video I demonstrate how to work the sl1yo part of the half brioche stitch when coming back to the first stitch worked - it’s just achieved here by sliding my stitches back along the long circular needle rather than joining up in the round, but the way you work the stitches is exactly the same

Soft AND cosy? Gorgeous. I bought some mindful DPNs purely because of the pointiness but they seriously set my teeth on edge and they are now looking for a new home. The search for the ideal texture/pointiness combination continues.

Hi Jacki! How do you feel about knitting a larger front vs back for let’s say a drop shoulder sweater as another approach to fitting the bust better? I find that short rows alone give me a weird “bubble” effect over the tummy?!? Just diving into adding more width at the bust. Appreciate this video very much!

Welcome back 😊 I've been sadly away from knitting since February of this year due to chronic tennis elbow 😭....but I'm now able to knit a bit. I'm hoping to have a go at brioche, it looks really pretty!! I too love knitting, hoping to head to Yarndale next year, I decided that pretty wools, and not being able to knit would probably mean I'd cry, so I didn't go this year!! Glad you are better, COVID sucks!! Loved the video, looking forward to your next one!!xxx

I usually knit this as half fisherman's rib (k1/p1 row then k1below, p1row) can be worth a try if anyone struggling to tension their YO. Both come put exactly the same until uou need patterning in the brioche section. My latest project with it was the First Cardigan by HIVE knits and its a gloriously squishy stitch either way!

I'm so glad you're at the other side. Thank you so much for sharing all the tips too! I'm literally working out a hat pattern as I knit it and looking at inspiration and marrying ideas and figuring out how things are constructed and why. Next I'm going to knit it in my husband's size to make sure my maths is right and then we'll see! It will likely be a free pattern but I sure do love the process of creating it.
