Awesome vid! Do you have any advice for aspiring Systems or Server Admins? I was looking into getting the CompTIA's Security+, Server+ and Linux+ certifications but not sure if it would help my job prospects. Was also applying to lots of IT Support Specialist positions too but haven't had much luck yet

Are you normally remote? I don't mean to be rude but I youtubed "day in the life of a system admin". I clicked on your video hoping I would get an accurate day in the life. Instead I got this. Half of your video was about your extracurricular activities and the dang trees. I know you titled it "travel edition" it's fine just not what I was looking for.

2:19 Surprised to see a Frontier DSL modem. I enjoyed the 1.7Mbps speeds on that specific modem before they bonded the lines for 17Mbps at my expense.

Thank you for posting this video. When people ask me what I do, I tell them I am a sysadmin and get a confused look. I get tired of explaining it to them so I decided to look for one of these ‘day in the life’ videos and there are a ton of them but yours most closely resembles my role so now I just send them a link whenever I ask. BTW I never knew those type of wireless fiber antennas even existed. Good to know🎉

After 10 year as an Hotel receptionist I decided to jump into IT. I just finished an IT hardware technician and I jumped straight into SysAdmin, not knowing s**t about programming (php, c++, java, javascript ecc...) . I'm scared as hell of programming, but at least my soft skill are above average and the job doesn't seem as scary after watching you.Thank you for the info and the vlog in your daily life :)

I loaded Ubuntu 22.04 but can't seem to get the machine to boot directly. It first gives me a screen to click on the Ubuntu logo and then when I do that the machine boots in properly. Is there a way I can get out of the extra screen that comes up before the machine boots in?

Good video. Though I'm sure you have, do please remember to reset the config on those switches before they're donated. In the past I've received a few that gave me the passwords of the previous owner!

As a Sys Adin from 1986 till 2014n I retired, I think your are doing a great job! I wish I had two of you back then. One thing I would add is the ability to tell your boss he is wrong while making him think he has just noticed a problem in his perfect plan and is giving you the answer to fix it would be great. If you figuar it out let me know. I was never any good at it. Advice: make them belive if you don't have the answer you will find it and fix it to all there system problems.

The seagull wasn't looking for company or to hang out with you. It was dying of starvation and risked being out in the cold, spending valuable calories it can't afford to spend trying to stay warm, in the hope that you'd feed it, ideally some sort of fatty protein, not carbs.

I'm new to IT, so I could be wrong but I believe there is a stigma about work environments being difficult due to short tempered or self righteous technicians. Because of this, I appreciate your positive energy and joy that you bring to your work. It's refreshing and good to know it's not all doom and gloom
