Wickes is located about 20 miles south of St Louis Mo. in northern Jefferson County at the confluence of the Meramec and Mississippi Rivers. Wickes used to be a small town. Then I think in 1972 Wickes, along with several other surrounding towns, incorporated into one and it was called Arnold. I hope that helps. If you need more info let me know.

I think it is released. The chain is stuck. Normally you can pull the chain, to see if there is more slack in it!

The getting on and off moving equipment ban was rescinded on UP about 2 years ago. This is now common practice once again.

Takes too long to come to a complete stop before getting on.

Funny how things change. In the late 70's I tried desperately to get hired by a railroad. I was eventually hired by the Louisville and Nashville but never worked a day because we were immediately laid off.

I knew that a train was on its way, and I was waiting for the signals to turn on and by coincidence right after I said I can't wait out here forever, the signals turned on shortly thereafter. It's silly stuff like that that can make things a little more fun.

Thanks, I didn't go out when it was really cold and after the big snow my spots were all snowed in. So, I was limited and didn't want to get stuck.

I think you are the only one that noticed I've been missing. My kids didn't even notice I haven't been posting. Under the right conditions I can hear the horns from the River Sub at the house as they go through Arnold Park.

Almost...The month has gone quickly. I got a dose of that junk that was going around, did some painting in the house and then it was too darn cold to go out. For a while there all my train spots were snowed in. The hill going down to the tracks at Wickes was ice covered for quite a while. You can see in the thumbnail Kevin is back. He said he got put on another job for a while. I will be going out tomorrow to catch them at Riverside.

The Up is classic. When I see the UP I think of the history associated with this road and it's still around today. The winged shield is my favorite.

I haven't seen conductor Kevin for a couple weeks now and engineer Ben has been missing lately. Thinking he might be on vacation. Brakeman Justin has been gone since the UP took the brakeman off the local. Things are always changing.

It's music to my ears but not so much for her and I noticed the dogs get quiet when it's playing.

I know, it seems like it's in the woods out in the middle of nowhere but, it's just half mile south of the wickes crossing.

Wickes is located at the end of Wicks Rd. It's in Arnold You take Telegraph Rd. Off Jeffco and Wicks is about 3/4 of a mile down Telegraph on your right. It seems secluded but there are houses all around up on the bluff above the tracks. If you walked the tracks from Wickes to Kimmswick is only two miles. Does that help?
