Just another day in newf… this time of year the herring are in close for spawn, and right behind them are the whales, looking to get a feed.. this guy was cruising 6-10’ of water. Its amazing to see them so close to shore and I never take it for granted..

Hey folks! Still here! Hopefully back at the vids soon.. everything is now broke, camera, cpu, rods, waders, car… etc. so once i get a new everything we will pic...

      Hey jason! Happy new year buddy! Hope all is well your way also! I will be back in the aaddle come feb 1, hopefully we get some ice, not to much but some, haha i do want to ice fish once or twice. As for sink tip lines/leaders/ etc, i have def used em.. and they do work in the right scenario! You will find it can be a bit sluggish casting, and you def have to get the line up from the depths before a back cast.. but i do use it on occasion when needed. I tend to like the clear semi sink leaders as they get down enough combined with a bead headed fly usually works well enough for me! Try it out for yourself! You may like it! Cheers bud! I be back with lots of videos soon! Looking forward to it!

Squids are showin up!! They also are hit and miss right now but they starting to show up! Which you can fish all week!! And the cod will be in chasin those too… all is not lost on shore cod yet!! Whats the size of your makerel these days? Ours last year where barely 10” . You guys have the same new rules as per dfo? We have zero commercial makerel fishery, even for bait, and recreational is min size of 10 1/2 “ and there is a limit but i cant recall what it is..

      @@roby2331 yeah, same rules apply for us too. We had a lot of tinkers in the bay 2 weeks ago, but the big ones are showing up now. 12 to 16 inches is considered a big mackerel around here. Some we freeze whole and use them for cut bait for the stripers. Great fun on a surf rod from shore.

      Haha Cag, currently experiencing a winter storm… 12” snow if not closer to 18-20 plus winds 60 mph… also we have alot of arctic ice in our bays or along the coastlines right now.. have been out chasing sea trout when the weather allows, but holy cow its still cold as f.. ponds and rivers still iced up.. been a hard winter up here.. but as soon as the fishing is starting to wake up you know I will be out trying my best! Back yard stuff generally doesnt get good until june to be honest tho.. thats one thing i am super jealous of florida.. so much diversity in the salt water makes for fishing all year round from what i gather!! Hope all is well bud! Cheers

      Thanks for the kind words Bob! As for cod in the fall, generally you wont get them in close as the caplin have since spawned and left. But.. last year i was catching cod up until november in close while chasing sea trout.. now they weren’t as big, but still worth keeping if you wanted a feed. I was actually getting them even closer up the shoreline towards the river as thats where the trout and makeral where hanging around. Was interesting to say the least! Cheers

      Our trout (freshwater) season is pretty dismal compared to the mainland, basically from may 15 -sept 7.. its ridiculous… after that there are further dates for certain waters til oct 7. Dfo has made a mess of this place for sure.. but all the same.. trout licenses are available for non residents, and i would say you would be fine going for a flick at any freshwater pond or whatever it may be as long as its before sept 7.. after that you really need to look at the regs for where your visiting.. it would be sea trout after that, and only certain places are open.. welcome to nofunland… lol jk its fun but really frustrating.. i have friends who are from bc, who have been here for years and still can not sort out the rules.. by all means.. keep in touch, and when your around I will do my best to either take ya somewhere or at least give ya some directions! Nice video and some great brookies! My lifetime of fishing began in 1971 when I was a nine year old american kid living in Argentia Nfld. Streams, ponds and the harbour, didn't matter which, it was a fair bet that I was out with rod in hand. I've enjoyed several of your videos, keep up the good work, subscribed. kip

    Love watching those videos. I was planning on buying a new flyrod, what weight would you suggest? I also live on the north east Avalon and will mostly be fishing in ponds for browns, with some brook trout gully fishing and a rare salmon fishing trip. I know its a lot to ask from one rod, but would a 7wt come close? what about a decent reel that won't break the bank?

    • @roby2331
      @roby2331 Рік тому

      Alot of the time here you use a rod based on the weather and not the fish.. meaning i use a at least a 6 weight rod if not 7 weight, just to bang it out in the wind, which really is the battle around here, not the size of the fish..

    • @roby2331
      @roby2331 Рік тому
