Or check this out, Use a Perkins Friction Heater, to heat the Sterling ( make the piston wide, like the coffee cup Sterling or the Ericsson Rider Cargo Ship (operates on much less heat difference) and the friction heater can be spun with a small BBQ roticary motor, that’ll get you over you nut tea.

Everything you think you know about this car is completely wrong. Steam cars are obsolete technology, dirty and inefficient. They produce more pollution than internal combustion engines and are the most expensive cars in the world hto build and maintain. This is exactly why they are completely extinct.

2 million BTU at full clip burning BTU dense gasoline. That's what Leno claims the Doble requires. What kind of genset is going to provide the 2M BTU? Plus he claims in practical operation, the water range is closer to 300 miles in favorable ambient temperature conditions. 15MPG on the fuel. Plus it requires frequent descaling protocol.

She tried to make it sound like there is a boiler full of steam pressure, when in fact every injection into the ‘flash steam’ chamber, was the “burst” and of course the pressure was exhausted, then the next burst happens, with its own pressure, and again, and again, and again. …all for the cost of, …water.

Doble went out of business because Abner Doble was an egomaniac who had absolute control over the company and thus wanted to satisfy his every whim. No two cars were built alike because he continually made "improvements" to the design, making each car a hand-built vehicle at exorbitant prices. His desire was to build the most expensive car in the world, and he succeeded. Despite only selling the cars to wealthy people, he still spent about twice as much money on each car as he received -- which is a sure recipe to go out of business. Then there was the whole bit about the state of California putting them out of business because they were engaged in stock fraud. The acknowledged expert on Doble steamers, Jim Crank, told me that he hired a paralegal to go through all the court records and that the report was that Abner was guilty as sin. He spent some time in jail before getting off on a technicality. Unfortunately, your estimate on boiler light off time is far off the mark, it took more like 90 seconds to raise steam pressure ... which still didn't matter. Once the boiler was hot, you had to vent steam through the lines and through the engine steam chests until you got the engine up to operating temperature. Failure to do this would cause water to condense in the engine cylinder and, since water is mostly incompressible, this would cause the engine to break on the compression stroke. So, no, you did not simply light off the boiler and drive away. Your allegation that the car was pollution free is sheer fantasy. During the late 1960s, General Motors built two steamers (one supplied by Besler, which was the old Doble company). They also purchased a Doble for comparison. The results were compiled for a report submitted to the Society of Automotive Engineers. Unsurprisingly, the Doble burned fuel, and this produced pollutants. Admittedly, it was cleaner than internal combustion because the combustion was steady, but the catalytic converter and other developments erased this advantage. I have seen any number of "inventors" arguing that you can use electric heating for a steam car. Apparently, they didn't take physics in junior high school or they would have run into the First Law of Thermodynamics, which essentially shows that you can't get more out of a system than you put in. For instance, suppose we use a steam engine to drive an electrical generator. Let's assume the boiler is 90 percent efficient, which would be pretty darn good for an automotive boiler. Then, let's assume that the engine is 20 percent efficient, which is optimistic since the best prototype steam car engine ever built managed about 23 percent during its best run -- which is not representative of all driving conditions. Then let's assume a generator capable of 90 percent efficiency (which is WAYYYYY better than an automotive alternator). By multiplying 20% by 90% by 90% we come up with a conversion efficiency of a lousy 18 percent. Dividing one by this number gives us roughly 5.55 ... meaning we need to burn fuel containing 5.55 kilowatt-hours in order to get 1 kilowatt-hour out of the generator (and I was being pretty generous). It's actually difficult to image a worse way to generate steam than by using electricity. As for my credentials, I work as a Metal Model Maker for General Motors Global Propulsion System World Headquarters. I also had over 20 years of experience with steam propulsion in the Navy and Naval Reserve. Oh yeah, finally, I'm president of the Steam Automobile Club of America. Now, I have to tell you that as president of SACA, I appreciate all interest in steam. That said, we have to handle inquiries from people interested in steam cars, and an unfortunate amount of that communication is based on sources that are just flat-out wrong. SACA maintains a discussion group at www.steamautomobile.com that is free to anyone interested in the topic. We also have a Storeroom containing a number of publications on steam car-related topics, with discounts for members.

Ultimately the fact is that the pump will always use more energy than it could ever produce with the turbines or other systems you've described. It takes immense amounts of energy to move that weight up a pipe (storing it as potential energy) and then generating electricity with it (using it as kinetic energy) Even ignoring issues with efficiency like the 2nd law of thermodynamics and entropy, it still wouldn't ever produce more electricity than the pump used.
