Some 24 years ago @line6movies POD 2.0 was released, and now we are giving is a little bit of a new approach with the help from @HarleyBentonOfficial GPA 100 amp & their 2x12 loaded with vintage 30s.
With a little help from @TonyPepers Pepers Pedals.

    I tried this with my Joyo Zombie-ii and it sounds great when I hook just my eq pedal to the loops, but if I add my distortion pedal, it literally goes from silence to 180 decibels just turning the volume knob on the front of the amp. So I'm forced to plug my guitar into the distortion and then distortion in to front. What am I doing wrong, why does it act like that? I thought you could do distortion pedal in your effects loop? I use the clean channel on the amp with the gain turned completely off.

    • @metalprognosis
      @metalprognosis День тому

      The effect loop is a great approach, but a very sensitive one... If you send anything through the effects loop you are by passing all the volume and EQ on the amp... That is why it comes out so loud. If you are going to use distortion in the effects loop (which is a great idea!) you need to control the volume on the pedal first. Keep attacking your setup! The more you experiment, the more you will understand what works best from you with the equipment you have.

    I do agree, the reference sounded the best for this mix. The v30 got lost after the single note section, the chug ir also got lost there too, only the high end side. There's bedroom tones, practice tones, rehearsal tones, recording tones, and live tones. All have their place and none are wrong, just the wrong place. All have their compromises. My absolute favorite tone gets lost in the low end in a mix of any sort. Many other folk go the opposite direction, theirs gets lost in the mids and high end.

      You are right, there are a fair few frequencies that did get lost throughout the different examples. I feel in these cases you would want to pick with resonates with you most and work around that, either altering the guitar tone, or mucking around with all the other instruments to see where you can make them all work together. It was a fun video to put together and I was really keen to hear how they would pair up against each other.

The Gate and Key is supposed to be an incredibly good gate with a killer boost. King in Yellow is his favorite boost/od, Gahennah is a super brutally voiced distortion from what I can tell. If you want a Big Mac, don't buy an orange. Stop getting distracted by irrelevant stuff. The orange is CLEARLY LABELLED, not for people who want precision. Ask yourself, why did you miss this ⚠️ warning on the amp? Why didn't the salesmen point this important information out to you? You don't apply precision products to an amplifier that's going to fight your approach. The orange amp is electrically not compatible with EQ precision product. It's just going to reject your EQ signal. Thank you for taking the time to check out my video. I do recall been a little disappointed in the parallel setup compared to the serial setup in the effect loop. The disappointment was on my personal comfort how I like to run pedals and amps, nothing against anyone that enjoys and uses this amp (or any) differently. I did miss the amps specifics when I brought it, as I didn't know it was a thing until I tried. I'm learning as much as anyone else. Hence why I but a little message on all my videos stating this. I have also learn a heap from people helping me out in the comment sections and chatting to me directly. I'm very grateful for this community. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. Hopefully if you see some of my later videos, you will see an improvement in how I approach and try things in the studio.

    So ask yourself, What's so 1978 about that? Nothing. Then you should have realised t this point 👉 👈, you STOP what you're doing and FIX THE PROBLEM. Clearly you either have an electrical fault or you're missing knowledge. You can't continue on and ignore the electrical fault. Realise this sound didn't exist in 1978. YOU EITHER bought a broken pedal or you have no knowledge of 1978 sounds or you don't realise you should have realised you've got an electrical fault or you're making a sick joke. You've obviously just copied other idiots and bought into a brand your don't understand or you can't read labels etc... At this point, you've been exploited and been ripped of buying products you can't use. The salesmen lied to you and sold you expensive products you can't possibly use.

    This really wasn't a which sounds better, more of what's possible. The room mic didn't sound horrible at all. Had way more definition than i expected. Odd note, have you tried adding a delay in front of the amp, low repeats, short tails? Curious because of how they do bring out pinch harmonics. Also, they do tend to add more harmonic content. Think Ozzy's guitarists.

      You are right, it is more of a difference possible ways to use it. Zakk Wylde is an awesome guitarist, I wish he keep things more heavy than country these days. He is his own artist and can make what ever tunes he wants to. I really only use delay post (since I last played live), for solos or lead works. I made need to try delay in front of the amp.

    That does sound a lot better, clearer. There is something to be said for bedroom tones. They can be used for recording, just not in the way you think. Have the bedroom tones run to headphones or monitors for guitarist consumption and the recorded tones on another track. One thought i had, you might like some speaker sounds that are "honky" in normal e std tuning. The lower tuning might eliminate the annoying parts of that. Think 80s Marshall cabs, 70/80s i think were fairly common. Maybe some other commenters can help out there.

    Hey man, I'm glad to see you've taken up comment section advice to squeeze out more tone from the POD 2.0 , but I believe you may have missed something when pairing it with IR's. I believe Plague Scythe Studios mentioned in his video about the 2.3 EPROM update for the POD that the A.I.R. switch is not as it seems. Switching it to direct DOES NOT disable the cab modeling, you still need to manually disable it by using the tap button and switching the cab section (same as effects knob) to no cabinet. This is probably because you were meant to go straight to board or mixer or audio interface since this device was designed primarily for studio recording. Amp mode, very redundantly, does turn off the cab modeling but imparts another EQ curve over the sound because they designed this to got IN FRONT of an amplifier instead of the effects loops, which sums the stereo effects into mono and does not give a good sound. There are also different "cabinet tuning" modes which affect the sound as it was meant to be used in different set-ups, I don't think you've ever touched upon this... Also, when using IR's, you need to further use a power amp simulation plugin before the IR's since the power amp modeling is bypassed with no cabinet direct, and it is meant to be run through some kind of power amp, there is some kind of EQ curve baked into the sound which wouldn't be there otherwise. I've seen a few videos about this, The Studio Rats mentioned that you need a power amp sim in between the POD and the IR's in order to get a great sound. Other channels have said POD's don't sound good even with IR's, but they probably didn't know to put a power amp in between, although others have gotten great sounds even without that extra step... maybe it depends on the IR used or what mode they were in ...(hey there's another video idea, could do a comparison) Lastly, I believe you should really read the manual thoroughly and make use the deep edit feature on your computer. There are Sound Quest, which requires a MIDI connection, or Line 6 Edit, which I think uses USB. There is also a third-party one created by SynthAssist here on UA-cam if you can't get the official ones to work. I know you are mainly focused on heavy rhythm tones for Metal, but using the deep edit parameters (which you can use on the physical device although much easier on the software) you can tweak the sound much further such as reverb or delay parameters, switching the cab models, and gaining access to the presence and boost function! All-in-all, I hope this information can be of use to you and others who may need it, so perhaps you can continue blessing us with these fun POD 2.0 experiment videos! Keep Rocking Metal Prognosis! \m/

      That was a huge information hit, thank you for taking the time to spell it all out for me. Looks like there are still things I'm missing from it, which means more things I can learn and muck around with! I will have to look up to see how I can hook it up to the computer via midi, my version of the POD was before USB haha. I'll have to look into the SynthAssist third party one, I think I used the official editor about 15 years ago, and it was super clunky... I'd be surprised if Line6 did any updates for the POD... I feel like they have moved on to much better things in their line.

      @@metalprognosis I am very glad to be of service my brother in Metal! I am pretty sure this device does have the USB-B square connection commonly found on printers. Regarding the editors, Leon Todd and Plague Scythe Studios both got them to work, but others have said you may need to follow certain steps in order to use them on modern computers. I believe SynthAssist charges around $30 US for his version - as he did spend a number of hours coding it from scratch. Line 6 used to be great in the support for old products in the early days, such as offering upgrade packs for the original POD 1.0 to 2.3 chip, or their original AxSys amp to Ax2 hardware and new face plate pack.
