Focusing primarily on TV and Film from the '70s, and all of the lesser known character actors and short-lived TV shows from that era.
1978-79 Short-Lived TV Shows
This video is a compilation of most of the shows that were new, and (quickly) cancelled -
or not renewed - from the 1978-79 prime time TV schedule. Please note, I don't always use the TV shows intro. Some of them aren't permitted, or they aren't available (not in circulation). There were a few shows that didn't have much other than a few photos to work with.
This follows the days of the week, and the specific time slot that these shows would have fallen on. Not to mention, the shows that they were up against that were playing on the other networks.
I'd like to thank:
- Chuck D's All-New Classic TV Clubhouse - Free Country/Jackie & Darlene Promo
- David Gideon (various intros/outros)
- Bionic Disco (various commercials)
- Gen X TV Memories (various commercials)
- RwDt09 (hours of enjoyment)
- The Museum of Classic Chicago Television (episodes/promos/commercials)
- The Retro Depot (various commercials)
- robatsea2009 (various commercials)
- momentbymoment78 (Susan Anton clips)
- Chuck D's All-New Classic TV Clubhouse (various commercials)
I also used the song "Lobby Time" by Kevin MacLeod (royalty free music).

In this video, I explore the reasoning behind why moviegoers and film critics hate this movie, while simultaneously giving my thoughts as to why it's not as bad as they say. Actually, I've always really liked it! Is this movie really one of the worst movies of all time? Is it really worthy of a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes? A look back at the film & television career of Michael Biehn. This is a random thoughts video about one of Hollywood's most underrated, and underappreciated stars. Actors Who Starred in Film & TV Together
Переглядів 1,7 тис.2 роки тому
A very short list of actors who've had a chance to play on TV as well as in a theatrical film together. It's more rare than you'd think, especially if both actors had relatively significant roles in both. If you can think of any other two actors, who aren't on the list - especially from TV and Movies that are from the '60s, '70s, and '80s - I'd love to know about it! #kate&allie #susansaintjame...
I wonder if that Space show was the idea for Star Wars? And during Christmas I got to see Ozzie and Harriet on Catchy Comedy. I liked the episodes. I don't remember watching Ozzie's Girls.
And it was a Western Gilligan's Island. With Gilligan as Dusty Forrest Tucker as The Wagon Master/Skipper And Jeaninne Riley as a blond Ginger and Lori Saunders as Mary Ann. But she'll always be Bobby Jo to me and Jeanine was the first Billie Jo on Petticoat Junction and the Howells and The Professor played by these three unknowns?
And that creepy woman from the Chiffon commercial used to scare me.
I bet that show about the Firemen would have made it if they had moved it to another night. Because Emergency was on. I loved Emergency.
Same here!
Me TV + is now showing The Girl With Something Extra.
Awesome. I like that show.
I know my parents would have never watched The New Perry Mason Show simply because Raymond Burr wasn't the star. And I would have already been in bed asleep when these programs were on.
Was disappointed they cancelled Aaron Spelling's Dog & Cat, not because it was a great show, but it co-starred Kim Bassinger, still an unknown at that point, but worth the watch. Looks like 45th place wasn't that terrible (out of 101 shows) but they didn't give it much of a chance. I later heard that Kim had turned down an offer to be one of the original Charlie's Angels (although she did do a non-sexy bit part in the "Angels with Chains" episode). More recently I heard instead that she had LOST OUT on getting the part to be one of the angels. Not sure what the truth is there. I do recall that Veronica Hamel turned down the Kelly role that went to Jaclyn Smith. And Kate Jackson was always cast from the beginning.
Interesting stuff! Although I like Jaclyn Smith in that role, I'm also liking the idea of Veronica Hamel in that spot too. The pilot episode for 'Dog & Cat' is floating around on the web, but there's someone speaking in Russian (I believe) talking over quite a bit of the dialogue. I would love to see all of the episodes. I (barely) noticed that Kim Bassinger was in an episode of 'The Gemini Man' from 1976. Not the greatest episode, but it's fun spotting people in smaller roles, before they blow up.
Love the Interns I have one episode on 16mm film. It was a excellent show.
Oh wow I also have a episode of Nancy on 16mm film. I have the pilot episode. Don't understand why it didn't make it was a good show.
I also have a episode of Make Room For Grandaddy on 16mm with original commercials. So much fun to watch. Great show.
I have The Young Rebels on 16mm film. Never seen or heard of before that. Good show.
The Bold Ones lasted 4 seasons(1969-73), not i.
That's true, but I was specifically referencing 'The Bold Ones: The Senator'.
Not hard to see why these shows failed. I was 13 years old then, and I can tell you that unless you have a very strong sense of youthful nostalgia, most of the shows of that era just weren't that good.
Born Free is my favorite tv show since around 50 years.
I guess "Lotsa Luck" didn't.
Little House was crushing these shows
I loved the Night Starker with Darren McDavin,i just guated from high school when all these good shows came out.
Beacon Hill was my favorite! Loved David Duke!
I think a lot of these were summer replacements
WOW!!! The music.....
Im 8 shows in and saw/remember watching at least 1 episode of 7 of them...some of these were real good.
Interesting/entertaining🤗
Both the Bold Ones & The Young Lawyers were good programs
Fuck Rotten Tomatoes. They wouldn’t know what a good movie was if it pooped out of their ass.
Ohara U.S. treasury had potential. but it was obvious Jack Webb wrote the dialog. every one sounded like Joe Friday.
I like that you include where they fell in the ratings and who they were up against and where are the competition fell in the ratings. It's obvious NBC just kept chugging along with wonderful world of Disney regardless of what came up against it
Thank you for saying that! Much appreciated!
The Keane Brothers got their own show because they wrote a song about Amy Carter, "Amy (Show the World You're There)."
FASCINATING LIBERAL would finish 59th in the 1972-73 Nelson TV ratings. It wa up against YOUNG HERBERT HOOVER (88th) on CBS and THE NEW BOB HOPE PRESENTS THE LIPTON SOUP THEATRE (30th) on ABC.
I'm surprised Faraday and Company ran for only 4 episodes, because, while my memory of some of these shows is sketchy, I remember Faraday and Company quite well. Dan Dailey played a man unjustly imprisoned in 1946 for a murder he didn't commit, who finally gets out in the early 1970s after newly uncovered evidence proves his innocence. He then teams up with his detective son to solve crimes. It was basically a "fish out of water" show with Dailey's character trying to adjust to life in the 1970s (I remember one scene where he needs to make a getaway in a car and he's wondering, "Where's the clutch?")
"Lotsa Luck" wasn't half bad. Should have gotten a second season.
You left out one good short running to show of the 1978 to 1979 TV season, that is the Bad News Bars , based on the movie called the Bad News Bars that aired on the CBS television network.
I didn't include it, because it lasted parts of 2 seasons.
My God, better days, indeed.😢
I only remember watching Dan August and Barefoot in the Park.
I remember Flying High, know it didn't last long. I forgot that Jerry Mathers was in it.
Silverman greenlighted SUPERTRAIN, yet cancelled THE BIONIC WOMAN (again) before he got axed from ABC. Some smart man HE was.. Pffft!
Wow, that was painful
i think his main issue is that he didnt quite have the charisma to carry a movie on his own. great support character, but on his own too plain.
We need more Dirty Sally , please.
If you have a glass eye, and you sneeze real hard, can your eye fly out?
David Hartman always played the part of a unhandsome man.
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😍😍😍😍😍😍
I thought the movie was very enjoyable. And the sound track was pretty good......
Kolchak was brilliant
I The Swiss Family Robinson Tv Show 1975 - 1976 😀❤️😃😍💖💝 And I Love Eric Olson 😀❤️😃😍💖💝
Thanks for all of your hard work on these compilations, Robert. We really enjoyed all of them. We reference your YT channel in our podcast now, in episodes #7, and our upcoming #8!
Hey, thank you! I really appreciate that. I love that you're covering 'Knots Landing' btw. I grew up watching it, starting from the Alec Baldwin/Lisa Hartman period, through to when Nicollette Sheridan had joined the cast. I'll be sure to watch your series. Good luck with your channel!
@@robertsretrorewind5853 Oh yes! Alec Baldwin played the heck out of that role... Thank you for getting back to us. And be on the lookout, as we reference your channel in tomorrow's episode as well.
On CBS you SEE B.S. !!!
They really did elaborate intros in the 70’s!!
Hated Sandy Duncan - just not my cup of tea
Also did not like Joyce Bulifant - but some others on this list
@@thomascefalo938 That's funny that you say this. They remind me of one another, Elaine Joyce as well but to a lesser degree.
Based on old newspapers I went through, Future Cop premiered on Sat. March 5th, 1977 at 8pm, opposite Mary Tyler Moore/Bob Newhart and Emergency. By March 25th it had been moved to Friday opposite Bob Hope and The Way West. By April 30 it was back on Saturdays, this time at 10, opposite Carol Burnett and NBC's Saturday Night Movie. The Daily Breeze (Torrance, CA) reported on July 17 that the series had been picked up for fall, but apparently no new episodes were made. But the show continued to turn up. On August 6 it was again on Saturdays (repeats?) competing with Mary Tyler Moore/Bob Newhart.
I appreciate that your taking the time to look into that. Going back several months ago, I couldn't find anything concrete to put down with 'Future Cop', being stumped as to when that show regularly played (from what I can remember).
@@robertsretrorewind5853 You're welcome. I appreciate your videos, very informative, and they bring back a lot of memories.
Somebody screwed up to cancel Ellery Queen so soon!!
