Great vid man, i was actually wondering if the tooth layouts had a name. So now i know why my keystone says perforated lance.

I have what looks like the identical saw. No name either, but I bought it from Portland’s oldest and most well-stocked hardware store-Wink’s Hardware-about 25 years ago for around $100. I never questioned the quality, because if it was ok by them, then it was by me. Its been a great saw. I’m now in the process of cleaning, jointing, setting, and sharpening.

Hmm, for doing bushcraft trips and camping out, I honestly prefer my bowsaw, its only about 50 cm (20 or so inches), packs down nicely into a bag that I have sewn from cotton canvas. So you dont cut big timber with it, but I can honestly chop that with the axe if I find any lying around. For felling and bucking a bit of firewood in our forest I bring a 66" felling saw, it does everything, perforated lance pattern. I don't go about doing these things alone so a 2 man saw is perfect :)

How would it cut an oak or hickory log

For such a small log, its like using a sword for doing a needle's work.

That saw is junk compared to vintage steel. You should have hung on to the old lance. They wouldn't tell you who made it. WTF? Answer = CHINA! Hand set and sharpened? LOL!

To me it looks like it has at least one raker that's too tall towards the back because it kept hanging up in the same area.

Hi James!!! Hey, did you said that you got your extra mags from the ProMag web site?? I had being ordering 2 times from them and they keep sending me a wrong mag. Even I attached a pic of the two mag (the mag I got with the stock, which work well, look exactly like the ones you have in your video) and they keep sending me a wrong mag, it looks even different.... So, please, can you confirm from where you got yours? Thanks!!!

Yours is nearly identical to mine, except mine is the SPS Varmint, and I’m using Sightron siii glass. I agree, the Archangel stock is extremely solid. I’m 6’0 and it fits me perfectly as well. Good review.

Wow a silky folding saw half the length could cut that in half the time. Search " Silky Bigboy" medium teeth.... so much better.

They also charge $45 shipping on their sharpening kit. Their saws are no better.... WARNING ABOUT A CROSSCUT SAW COMPANY: I wanted to get your opinion about a saw that I just received from the crosscut saw company. they were recommended to me for their saw sharpening tools and I decided to buy a saw from them: crosscutsaw.com/product/422-one-man-tuttle-tooth-saw-4-5/ I'm no expert but he saw I received has scary looking rakers. The saw does not look like it is anywhere near ready to use. I have some photos I would like to send you. (AND POST HERE IF I COULD) They also charged me an additional $20 for shipping to tape 3 files to the box! They would only agree not to rape me on shipping if I mailed them a check! I just ordered one of these from Traditional Woodworker. Did you have any problems with the way the teeth were set or the sharpness out of the box?

They make a real nice oversized bolt knob that clamps right over top of your existing one I got mine on eBay for $40 and it fits and works perfectly it's three times easier to manipulate the bolt now compared to before I added the oversized bolt knob

james yes they do offer a leather scabard. but it looks heavy any not weather proof. I was thinkin of using 2 plastic strips with a grrove in them and put one on the blade and one on the top of the saw then wrap rope around it to keep the plastic in place. im a trail maintenance guy. so keeping the saw safe and straight is number 1. wat do you think? or maybe cedar with the groove

what kind of scabard did you make saw? I also need to carry this saw on or in a backpack.

I have a Remington 700 SPS TACT AAC 308 coming any day now. I ordered the Archangel AA700 stock. I am looking forward to trying this weapon out. I already have a Rem 700 /308 sitting on a Magpul hunter stock. This rifle is fitted with a Vortex Viper 6.5x20 Stock. I love that setup also. Just more toys for the older boys. LOL

It look's like a Wilhelm Putsch saw , you can buy cheaper saw's 85$ but you get what you pay for . Quality tools are not cheap but last for years . Remember to clean and oil the blade after use wd40 is a good cleaner and some light motor oil will keep it from rusting .

Good review. The weight of the system is negligible. It's supposed to be heavy and that weight adds to its stability. The bolt will move much smoother if you use a little graphite powder. If you slightly smooth the corners of your locking lugs your feeding won't have that clunk clunk feel, but still lock tight. Also, I sent my bolt to a company in PA who specializes in Badger Bolts. Now it looks like a '57 Chevy handle, instead of that little round knob you have, which looks like it will fit into the hand of a 5 year old. You can cycle with just the pressure of your thumb and catch your brass between your middle and ring finger, respecting the brass for future reloading. With some good trigger work by a professional, brought down the pull to 2.43 lbs with zero creep. And as far as the safety switch is concerned; the loading of the round and keeping your finger off the trigger is more than sufficient. Bi-pods are supposed to be used on the ground or a couple of sandbags. Add a Deresonator installed back about 1" from the end of your muzzle and that'll also help tighten-up your MOA. I also like the custom mag's as you can't use them in other rifles, which makes them Tool Specific and will last well into many other generations of shooters. The length of pull and cheek rise adjustments are spot on, sturdy and crisp too. And let's not forget the trapdoor compartment for a snake and small tube of graphite powder stowage. And since it's not going to be used, per say, as a hunting rifle, having a sling on it really makes no sense. A good drag bag with a carrying system will fit the bill and protect your high dollar investment much better. Good Hunting ;-)

I use to use a vintage one similar to that & would cut down hardwood trees up to 20" or 25" in diameter. We also used it for cutting up cord wood & I was always sharpening it. We also used a 6' cross cut saw & we could usually shave our arm with our double bit axes. On some of the big logs I tried not to be on the stinger end when cutting with my wife's cousin's, they would get to much in a hurry & either whack my knuckles or bend the saw which would jerk my shoulder. We used a team of horses to skid the logs out of the woods. Very hard work I must say & I'm glad I was young back then. We had one older guy that worked with us & at one point he almost had a heart attack. He went to lighter duty after that.

I have this exact setup on my SPS Tactical. Get the Timney 510. Just do it. The break is so much crisper. Maker sure to get the long sear from Timney.

I had time to try it once last winter on a very thick oak log that was dry (had fallen on the way). This saw worked fine even on such a hard wood and very large log. I have the impression it is a nice tool. I have to try it on green wood to decide wether it can be used to cut fire wood in reasonable time... The aim is to find out what could be the reasonable output of wood per day in cord (without dying from an heart attack). Anyone with some experience with heavy use of cross cut saw ?
