    Another great installment tku! You've been very cultural, even going to the ballet 😂 I luv your corn-y jokes! Even when you are having to slug it out, you're still having a whale of a good time! 👍

    Also what are the dimensions of the camper? It seems just right for your trip?

      Overall the rig (truck and camper) is just shy of 5.8m (19 ft) long and 2m (6.5 ft) wide. A very manageable size for our travels.

    If you're traveling down to Washington State, USA, I'd recommend checking out the Olympic National Park which is a ferry ride from Seattle. After, travel on the Pacific Ocean side of the state which has some breath-taking view of the ocean; and a lot of camping sites....

    How many miles do you have on your New Zealand Toyota Tundra? Edit: Your newer video said: 94 Land Cruiser 80 series 1FZ gas engine. Nice. I have the typical American Toyota engine with 3UR-FE gas engine.....

    • @gmitchell1963
      @gmitchell1963 26 днів тому

      Yes, 94 Land Cruiser, modified from SUV body to flat deck pickup in NZ. It is a JDM import to NZ, but like Japan, we drive on the left so all our vehicles are RHD. Currently 275,000 KM or 171,000 miles..

      @@gmitchell1963 NIce! Hopefully like the US spec J80 with 1FZ-FE 4.5 L I6 motor, it will last a lifetime. I guess you just have to replace the worn parts to keep it running. My 2014 Tundra with 5.7L 3UR-FE V8 motor has 126,000 miles/203,000 KM. The Alaskan roads and Yukon, Canadian roads will put a lot of wear and tear on the suspension.

    Welcome to Canada and US. Perfect rig and camper. Tell us more about set up, engine (is it 1HZ or 1HDt, AT or MT?) What makes 80 series better then 76-78-79 series or Patrol GU/GQ?

    • @gmitchell1963
      @gmitchell1963 Місяць тому

      I have been asked for a rig run down, so I will put together a video some time in the near future. To answer your questions the truck is a 94 Land Cruiser 80 series 1FZ gas engine. Why? In NZ it is a cheaper platform than the diesel 80 seriwa and significantly cheaper than a used 75 or 79 series and much more comfortable! Plus more parts are available in North America. Why Land Cruiser and not Patrol - the 80 series is over engineered and doesn't rust the same, also more after market support for 80 series in NZ.

      Thank you for all your kind comments. Yes, Pumbaa is a Kiwi (lol!). We had planned to update the graphics on the truck before the truck was shipped, but we ran out of time. We have plans to add graphics to either side of the camper and a map on the heater box on the rear. We will also be adding some appropriate NZ logos. In the meantime, lots of interesting things to distract us on the road.

    How much fuel do you have on the vehicle, and do you carry extra?

    • @gmitchell1963
      @gmitchell1963 Місяць тому

      Thanks for the question. The truck has a 4.5L gas engine that isn't particularly economical, so range was a concern when I built the rig. I have the standard 90 litre (24gal) tank and I have added a custom 130L (34gal) tank in the rear of the chassis. This has a transfer pump that I can switch on in the cab to refill the main tank. This gives us a range of more than 1,100km (680 miles). I don't feel the need to carry any more than this.

    Did this road in a Jeep Laredo in June 2016. A Honda civic was not far behind me. Road was in great condition except for a few miles of construction/repair a few miles south of Deadhorse. I met motorcycles, bicycles, and one guy walking (not recommended in polar bear country).

    Great footage. Surprised your videos don’t get more views. Nice rig you have. I never drive my own rig on that road. The calcium chloride used for dust control and gravel binding is horrible stuff for vehicles.

    • @gmitchell1963
      @gmitchell1963 Місяць тому

      Thanks for your kind words. We publish these videos primarily for family and friends. Hopefully, others will find them useful or entertaining but we haven't been promoting the videos on other social media channels, I agree with your comments about the calcium chloride, we wash thoroughly under the vehicle when possible. The truck was built with this travel in mind and if it's a choice between not going and preserving the vehicle, we will always choose the journey.

    More different landscape, and I think you had a snap of a chipmunk in one sequence. Gavin Dad would have loved the Chuckwagon museum and the airplane Museum, and he would certainly approve of your choice of music. The band music and the German beer festival music with Sousa playing.
