    I’m a man with alopecia universalis. Absolutely no relative that I know of has this condition. The benefits are: 1. I don’t have to spend money on hair care or shaving products 2. I don’t have to spend money on haircuts. 3. I don’t have to spend time in the morning shaving or getting my hair ready. It saves a lot of time. Don’t blame stress on this. It’s blaming the victim. Plenty of people have stress and don’t have hair loss. Also, plenty of people with alopecia were not stressed out before they got it. Doctors say it might be stress because it’s a way of excusing the fact that they have no idea why it happens. By the way, you’re beautiful.

      I have it too and am not dealing with it very well so far. I keep telling myself that it will come back but I don't really think so. My eyebrows are now gone and I have very little beard left, about 70% of scalp is bald and no body hair at all. I don't like the way I look without hair.

      @@localman12 I’m not a therapist, and I don’t know anything about you, so I’m not going to try to treat you. All I can say is that in the beginning it is worst because you are so used to how you once looked, and now it is so different that it is a shock. Eventually, though, you’re gonna get used to the way you look, and you’ll realize it’s not that bad at all. Again, I don’t want to be presumptuous about you’re situation, and believe me I KNOW how devastating it is in the beginning, but believe me, it will get better. I don’t know what country you’re from, but here in the US, contact the National Alopecia Areata Foundation. They can help you find support groups or individuals with whom you can talk to. It helps a lot to find people who have gone through the same thing you’re going through.

      @@geraldobrien7323 Thanks...I hope you are right. Mine started 2 yrs ago with some bald spots on my head that I could hide when I went out, within the last 2 months it has taken off and really made me obvious that I am bald. I had a lot of injections in the beginning but they didn't help. I'm just so pale and white and look sickly to people who haven't seen me recently. I'm so embarrassed and most people don't know about this condition. They think you're not doing something right. anyway thanks for the advice.

    • @geraldobrien7323
      @geraldobrien7323 3 роки тому

      @@localman12 Yes, I know. I’m not really self conscious about it when it comes to new people I meet, or with people I work with and are used to seeing me, but it’s when I come across people who haven’t seen me in a couple of years, I’m still a little uncomfortable with that. Also, look into micro blading for the eyebrows. It might not be for everyone, but I found a really good artist who did it for me. That, and the fact that I wear glasses, make it look like I have real eyebrows. But again, try to find some support. It makes a difference. Good luck, and I hope you feel better.

    I'm a guy with a thick beard & very long thick dense scalp hair (ofcorse they are, Im ethnically Asian after all & this is the one thing I always prided myself on) & noticed that i have various small patches in my beard after I got Covid. I'm in the last semester of university studying medicine & the cause of this disorder (Auto immune) crushed me mentally very brutally.....& is changing my personality for the worst i fear..... BUT seeing your video....wow, you are so pragmatic, logical & bold & yeah i have to acknowledge this to you atleast, that you really are all these things in comparison to me ! I still as a guy can barely come to terms with it, that in the near future (in my fucking youth-25 yo ) I face a high possibility of loosing it all & here you are just taking steps to combat it & embracing this misfortune like "yeah whatever, like i tried stuff but it didn't work & I'm okay with it" ! Nice perspective :) Anyways for our salvation, there are still some cosmetic procedures like scalp micropigmentation & microblading (u already mentioned this) in extreme cases. There is also a medication which can get you your hair back, it's called Xeljanz (JAK Inhibitor), but its costly AF & in case you are interested you can take part in the trials being conducted all across Europe for these JAK Inhibitors against Alopecia universalis/totalis. Atlast got to say, your videos, knowledge & attitude are really a help to young lads like me ! Keep it up ;) Maybe sometime all of us worldwide can form a community on some social media to get together & joke on how bald we all are XD !

    17:00 black dots are a charachteristic of autoimmune alopecia. Basically afaik these hair shafts are thicker at the farther end & very thin at the nearer end & will fall out very fast. Consider it an area of active immune attack.

    11:40 is a myth & topical minoxidil barely has any side effects. The pros outweigh the cons by a large margin for people wanting to grow their hair back, but for Alopecians (totalis & universalis) it has no point since eventually your immune system will eventually just cause hairfall again anyways....

    Thank you for putting this video and for the detailed description. It must be a very tough expreince:( and I’m sure the video is very helpful for others. I would really be happy if you can give me your advice. I’m suffering from hair loss that started from nowhere,hundreds per day, from my scalp,eyelashes,eyebrows,and from all of my body. Almost 80% of my scalp hair and body fell out in 18 months. I don’t have bald patches but overall thinning. do you think alopecia areata can be the culprit? it sounds yours was more gradual. My nails turned yellow and have pitting(it was never like this). did you notice any change to your nails? Or other symptoms? because I have tingling in feet,hands,face,weight loss,extreme fatigue and constipation. everything is normal on my tests. my dr refered me to an endocrinologist because it sounds to him as an endocrine problem. Thank you🙏🏻

      @polefit_jess_alopecia2303 3 роки тому

      Hey, I’m sorry you’re going through that, I know how tough it is. If it was alopecia it sounds like it’s heading towards universalis (whole body hair loss) which I have but there’s so many medical causes for hair loss it’s definitely a good idea to get an appointment as I can only talk from my own experience! I had symptoms of fatigue too and pain where I was loosing hair - mostly my symptoms were caused by stress I think. I didn’t have any nail symptoms but I know it can be common with alopecia or other hair loss. I hope you get some answers soon!!x

      @@polefit_jess_alopecia2303 Thank you so much . Its very frustrating and honestly I’m traumatized for life for the amount of hair that falls out each day(hundreds). This change me for life. Btw I think mine is related to stress also. I’m a medical student and stress is part of my routine unfortunately😕 . I was checked by dermatologist and he said its chronuc Telogen Effluvium which is reversible hair loss and that I need to figure out the medical issue that causes my symptoms. but I’m afraid maybe he is wrong as my nails have pitting and I read it can be a sign for alopecia areata. my other symptoms started at the same time of the hair loss so I think it has to be related. Do you have other autoimmune conditions(if its ok to ask)? I’m asking because it seems alopecia areata is more common with other autoimmune diseases such as thyroid disease,celiac disease etc. I appreciate so much your help💛
