🎉❤🎉
Brilliant.
THAT’S a rhythm section……!
Pretty sure this is from 1982 not 1981.
I think this is the worst song that I've ever heard.
Trying to hit that double track guitar chicka chicka on a single guitar is sweet and sour.
If anyone wants to see a. visual definition of white folks not having any rhythm, then surely this is it?
Fantastic prestation, sans faux-semblant.
une découverte! 🙏💫
I remember watching this mesmerised as a ten year old
At 1:00. Is the lady on the synthetic drums Eddi Reader, who then went onto some success with Fairground Attraction?
Indeed it is
Also with Eurythmics and Sweet Dreams.
Like Siouxsie one of the great noise merchants of the late 70s and early 80s!
Maravilhoso, adoro Gang of Four.
OH ……………… YES ¬¬¬¬¬¬¬ !!!!!!!!
We are all as the song says
Awesome! Gang of Seven, or Eight?
Total art rock. The most anti-fascist band in history. The even rebel against the fascism of rock structure and expectations.
Punk Funk at its finest. Very old school Punk Rocker here starting with MC 5 on to Patty Smiths first album in 1975. Now another birthday hit 73. Best L.A. band was X at the Whiskey A Go Co in 79.
Moments where I thought this was a bit like the Jam in their earlier days. A bit unstructured, challenging and yep that is the point..
Not melodic like the Jam.
Shite end of😆
They had one good tune (imo) 'Is It Love', it had a nice groove to it 😏
Loveit
Love it
Such a great band.
I really liked that album with the red colour
they were always brilliant, always slightly jarring too -- what with their sloganist lyrics, their odd melodies, and their dysharmonies. I had all their records. They sounded like no one else. Andy Gill was a hero. Any questions?
shame how the band took advantage of Andy Gill in his final days, but at least their songs will live on. RIP andy
FKN Excellent!!!
The star is Andy Gill on guitar
Sarah Lee on bass wasn’t bad either❤
This band really has my number. I have never heard this before, and I love it. Brilliant.
Check out their album Entertainment!! It's so raw and powerful.
@@TexasHxcx1965 A classic! Damaged Goods is great
@@HansJazz Absolutely agree!!
Could anyone from that period actually dance? Bloody awfull performance.
Good god almighty, weren't they awful? That was about the time I became so disenchanted with "our" music I just turned the radio off and started exploring other music. Hearing them again, I definitely did the right thing.
Most rock music is basically rubbish.
@@operator1717 er This isn’t rock , this is some sort of weird Avant garde crossed with U2 & talking heads art school shit Bloody horrible
I liked I love a man in a uniform. But I agree with you 100 percent.
R. I. P. Andy. So great and unique. You made those 🎸 strings scream. One of a kind.✝️🕊️
Aawwwww jealous much?
have seen/heard the name of this group since i was a kid, today i became aware of what i've been missing
Lol, me too
Who is the woman doing percussion and backing vocals? - She seems familiar.
Might be Eddi Reader (later of Fairground Attraction).
Yep, it's Eddi Reader. She responded to an ad the band had placed in the music press and ended up touring the UK and US with them.
Latterly of the numerous Jools Holland Big Band, Hootenannies yada yada yada...sans spectacles and boogie woogie chickens in baskets.
The Old Grey Whistle Test, was compulsive viewing in my house, I seem to think it was on late at night, 10.30pm ish🤔 I watched everyone & I remember this band very well, in my opinion they were brilliant
@@thedukeofstratosphear I saw her live with Gang of Four when the supported The Police at Gateshead Stadium in 1982
PIL followers
PIL copycats.
Slightly odd thing to say. Gang Of Four were formed in 1976 (and pretty much sounded like this from the start), PiL started in 1978. And (at least to my ears) although there is some cross-over, they sound quite different!
NOT!
@@jonhall6681 They did not start like this. They began make this kind of music after PIL.
"Entertainment" sounded nothing like PIL, and that pretty much defined their sound for the next 5 years. During that time, PIL, (who I really liked), were all over the map by the time the released "Flowers of Romance".
One listen to Can and you might reconsider who is copying who.
Just look up intense in the dictionary.
This was awful. No musical ability whatsoever. They looked like they'd just picked up the instruments and didn't know how to play them.
Thats the PIL line post punk. Check out the early Public Image Limited.
Hogwash. Go4 is awesome.
Fair enough if you don't like it - but to claim they don't know how to play makes you sound like an ignorant dick who can't play an instrument of any description.
I totally agree. The beginning of the end in many ways.
@@danielelliott4670 You should explore music properly. You only live once and there's so much wonderful music out there - and this isn't part of it. It's just bilge, crud - briefly "cool" for a few months in the 80s.
SHE is one of the best of BASSists. DId Robert Palmer crew rip off this FEMME aesthetic ?
More like tomboy. They didn't take it specifically from here, it was everywhere in early 80s (Annie Lennox is the most famous UK example)
Sara was great in The B-52's as well.
Never heard this before. Fucking amazing. Love this.
Great vibes!
Love this group so 👌
Perfection. Saw them twice back in the day, on Long Island and in NYC. Playing their first album for the first time burned a spot in my brain.
So ahead of their time.
I saw them in Sydney, a few months before Andy Gill went home and died. I was a little skeptical about only one of four remaining, but under his stewardship they remained true to spirit of GoF’s body of work. I came away not caring that there were people in the band who weren’t born when I bought Entertainment. A truly great band to the end.
One of the best bands od the World between late 1970's/early 1980's. I mean, one of the greatest bands ever.
When I wuz a wee lad I went over to our neighbor's house who had television. I saw this news report that always effected me. It said "Blah blah blah, if the president knew about it, he'd stop it in a minute. MY seven year old self wondered "doesn't the Prez have a TV or some shit?" Now I'm like "doesn't the Prez have 4chan 'n shit?"
Dead hard to play this.
Foundation Skateboards
Kinda gives everyone a piece to music a bit.
Every part in a way yes
