Braided Rug Dollhouse Tutorial - 1:12 Scale Miniatures
Переглядів 29 тис.3 роки тому
In this tutorial, I'll take you step-by-step through the best way I've found to make a realistic 1:12 scale dollhouse miniature braided rug! IMPORTANT NOTE: Since filming this, I have learned the importance of using REMOVABLE double-sided tape, and NOT permanent double-sided tape. Look at the labels carefully! In the Scotch brand blue/green label is removable. Red label is NOT. You may destroy ...

I braid the same way. 👍🏻 Nice tutorial, thank you!
@@MombiePlaysBarbie Cool! Thanks for watching!
thank you
@@barbarakaywhite5166 Thanks for watching!
I’m going to do this tutorial I didn’t do it yet, but I think this is going to help out really well❤
@@anamariabursuc2363 Awesome! Let me know how it goes!
What do you use to pour in the mold to make the product?
I used a two part resin in the mold to make the mannequin torsos, if that answers your question :)
@@NasusMiniatures what’s it called thx
@WildBillPaylaker Any two part resin will do! I don't remember exactly what brand I used.
@@NasusMiniatures thank you again, great video by the way, very clear and easy to follow
Thank you so much!!
@@marigarrido8269 You're very welcome! 😊
How do I get my free labels I cannot find any link please could you assist me
@@janetcrompton2109 The link for the labels is in the video description
The music is distracting over your voice
Where did you get the shelf to hold the balls of yarn?
It's just a mass produced 1:12 scale dollhouse shelf. Not sure where I got it, now! Either a dollhouse shop, or Michaels, or Ebay or something 😋
I found a little pack of small iron-on patches for jeans. The size and shape is about the size of a door mat for a 1:12 scale miniature house. I plan to use your method of braiding, and use the patches as a backing that I can iron on. 🤞🏼
That's a great idea!!
too cute!
Thank you! 😊
I use my ring fingers to braid the same way. I enjoyed this video very much.
Awesome! Thanks for watching 😊
What a great way to braid a long length! Where were you when I was braiding dog leashes?
Oh goodness! Braiding dog leashes sounds like quite a project!
why not line up the covers on the long side, glue them all and cut? Then you don't need to mark and cut, mark and cut
Good idea! I'm just a bit OCD, haha 😆
I’m just curious how much thread is used of each color???
I use one full hank of DMC Floss for each colour (if that makes sense) 😊
When you have to go look in the shed for a door even though you have no idea how it could have got there. Yup time to put things in their place. Thanks, love you in the blond wig!!!
Oh my goodness, yes! If I had a shed that would be one 😆 And thanks!
I just found your channel and immediately subscribed. I love your videos and I’m binge watching them. Please make more videos and I’m sure you could get lots of subscribers. Could you please share how long you bake the faux dirt and at what temp ? I have twin granddaughters and I’m sure they would be delighted with “dirt” in their dollhouse. Lol. I’m so hoping you make more videos. Thank you so much !,,
That's a great video idea! Added to the list 😊 I will certainly make more, I've just been struggling to find the right day-job/miniatures job balance 😬
Excellent.....thank you so much
Thanks for watching! 😊
This is great - thank you! and thanks for the laughs, I really enjoyed the added image clips and the disclaimer 🤣
Hahaha! Glad you enjoyed! 😆❤
Did you mention how long the braid should be to make a certain size rug?
I just braid the whole length of the DMC hank to make this size of rug. You could always use less of the braid to make a smaller rug 😊
Thank you! These are adorable and much easier than using a hot glue gun
You're very welcome! 😄
Several things: The protective sleeve is called "Heat shrink tubing", and you can use a BIC type lighter or hair dryer to melt it. Learn to "tin" the wires before soldering them together. "Tinning" means to apply a thin coat of solder to each wire before soldering them together - it makes the job easier. Lastly, at Amazon and other sellers, one can purchase a very useful "Third hand", with or without magnifier, to hold the wires as you solder them, instead of file folder binding clips. The 3rd hand setup can be positioned into the most comfortable way to solder. You could have chosen a better/more experienced soldering mentor, but understandably, you didn't know any better. Hope my suggestions help you and others.
Hi! Thanks for watching. I do know it is called "heat shrink tubing", but likely blanked on the exact name. There are obviously a variety of ways to melt it and my method is only one. I've never found it necessary to tin wires before soldering. I also do know about the "third hand" device, but I've never bothered to pick one up. My mentor was very experienced, not just in model train work, but also in his career and I do take offense at your comment regarding him. Please remember that this is simple hobby soldering and not electrician training.
Its lovely, of course I have a sewing machine miniature and this would be lovely in the basket beside it.
That would be so cute!
I feel the same about miniatures, I learned crochet and needle work at school becaus in the 60s and 70s girls had to, I would have liked woodwork but alas, they didn't even let boys do cooking until long after I left. The crochet is pretty easy as long as it's not overly complicated and I'm working my way down to doing scale items although my eyesight rebels a bit. I love the stuff you were doing in the film. It was Julie Warren who made me want to do miniature throws etc. I am getting there, I am off to do the braided rug, from a chair as my bones aren't getting any younger, thanks for that tip, I subbed because I'm sure I will like all your content.
Thanks so much! Always great to meet another miniaturist! 😄
That is freakin awesome !!!
Thank you so much!
I’m thinking about trying this out for a project. This tutorial helped!
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
I love it! Thank you so much. ❤

At 5'2", from shoulder to outstretched opposite hand is my fast and dirty yard, useful for checking the size of remnant fabrics and trims in thrift stores. It's probably the same on you.
Oh cool! Thanks for that! 😄
Love any material for mold making videos. Thanks for doing this one.
Thanks for watching!
So glad I found you. Love these little books.
Thanks so much! 😄
Your little comments during the video MAKE this everything! You are a doll! So glad I found your page!
Awww! Thank you so much!!
Perfect tutorial. I had no inkling to make a miniature rug before watching this and suddenly I do!
Fantastic! Glad to help! 😊
So cute! ❤ Any idea what lengths of floss you used to make a rug that size?
Whoops! Missed this comment! I use the whole length of a standard DMC embroidery floss hank, so however long that is? 😋
@@NasusMiniatures thanks for answering!
Were you worried about damage to your clear quilting ruler?
No, it wasn't very expensive. But I've also made dozens of rugs on it since this video and it s still perfectly fine 🙂
@@NasusMiniatures that’s good to know! I love my quilting ruler! First straight lines I ever cut 🤣. I’ll be making rugs now too.
@@dinnkl Awesome! 😄
MERCI beaucoup pour ce tuto !
Merci d'avoir regardé!
thank you for replying have everything except the rosin core can't seem to find it in that brand or size any suggestions ?
Oatey is a good brand. Not sure what size this is...it doesn't have to be very thick, as you have seen 🙂
ANY solder made for electrical wiring - NOT plumbing, at Home Depot/Lowes/whatever.
informative video just one question when you are holding the solder iron under the wires do you keep it close to the wires or do you touch the wires ? thank you
Great question! I do touch the wires with the soldering iron, so that they heat up. It's really the hot wires that end up melting the solder 🙂
I left a comment yesterday with some additional tips and now it's gone. Any idea why?
Not a clue! I left the comment "Great tips! Thanks!" On it. Didn't realize it was gone! Could you post it again maybe?
@@NasusMiniatures It happened again. I re-posted the tips. Gone again. Weird.
What!?! That's bananas! I swear I'm not doing anything
Let me see if I can remember it all. Affordable bigger plastic containers can be found at Dollarama. If you wait for the resin to harden in them, you can peel it off and re-use the container. I feel like there was something else, though...
@@NasusMiniatures Cure time will be longer if the material and environment is cold.
They recklessly sell this 😂😂 people think just cause it’s at a craft store you don’t need any safety equipment. You need gloves a respirator and goggles. The bottles say not to exhale the fumes
Very good point!! I actually have a horrible sense of smell, so it's easy for me to miss the power of fumes! (My poor brain cells 😂)
Hi i bought the book covers page and the 4 pink mini books i got the mini book covers but not the 4 pink mini books
Hello, I'm not sure what you mean by "the 4 pink mini books?" I don't have a PDF for four pink books. Could you message me on Etsy with your order number? Thanks!
Very nice detailed work. Thank you for putting this together
Thanks for watching! 😄
This is genius! I'm making one!
Yay!!!
Such a pleasant tutorial by an exceptionally nice tutor. Thank you.
Thank you kindly! 😄
I very much enjoyed the video portion, but I found the music incredibly irritating. Since music is such a personal taste, it would be better to leave it out than irritate your viewers. Your explanation of your process was wonderful, but I found myself wanting the video to be over ASAP so I didn't have to listen to the music anymore. Sorry, I'm not trying to be rude -- just a suggestion.
Thanks for watching!
I really want to see you on the show. Now I gota work out how from Australia.
Thanks! It's on Discovery+ UK also, I don't know if that helps? I wish it was on Netflix!
Wow! I love the project. I am just getting into miniatures and you make me feel a lot less anxious about messing up. Thanks so much. Kris in Orlando
Aww!! So glad! We all mess things up, though; that's how we learn better ways of doing things! 😄 Welcome to the mini fam! ❤
