Bellroy Venture Sling 9L review and pack out
Detailed look at the Bellroy Venture Sling 9L with my pack out. Thanks to Ethan, my son for the quick video edit as well as the lighthearted music in the background! So this time the music is actually supposed to be there, my son said, "try something out. See what happens. Music usually makes videos better" :)

    Hi do you think the zipper pocket inside could fit an 11 inch tablet?

    • @Bowmanthebagguy
      @Bowmanthebagguy 2 дні тому

      Thanks for checking out video! Yes so in the video at the 4 minute mark is my 11" Ipad Pro M4 with the Apple Magic Keyboard. It fits pretty snug overall but comfortable as well but only in the main area. The back zipper pocket would not work...the zip doesn't fully extend the length of the sling so it wouldn't work width wise. The main pocket does the trick but that is about it.

    Hey, how recent was your purchase? Seems like this is a popular issue. I’ve seen some comments from within the past year or so saying that bellroy has addressed this issue on their newer models, but I’m afraid it still hasn’t been fixed. I just placed my order for this bag 😮

    • @Bowmanthebagguy
      @Bowmanthebagguy 5 днів тому

      @@ayejonno Thanks for checking out the video…It’s interesting to me…I originally purchased the workpack when it first was launched and I did not have any challenges with the straps however it was their older fabric as well. This pack that I currently have I purchased pre-owned so I’m not sure how new it is however it’s definitely the newer Bellroy fabric similar to their venture packs and slings. Unfortunately I don’t have any more details than that. Let me know if you have any challenges with the new bag you ordered? The strap keepers work perfectly so I was really happy for the low cost and while I wish Bellroy would fix this issue and I’m sure eventually they will if they have not already I didn’t want to wait, for the low cost the strap keepers solved my issue quickly!

      Thanks for checking out the video! That is such a hard question...I really love both bags! That said, I really use and like both bottle holders and so the CTB20L for me is a better fit. Ultimately I didn't even want to play in the resell game so I just shipped it back to Evergoods...it never was even opened so if you want are still looking for one definitely sign up for Evergoods back in stock alerts. @@brochg, thank you for the response. I can understand what you mean about how the CTB20 can feel against the back, so I'm glad the Whitley wears "longer." I'm also not thrilled with the CTB20's _sticking-out_ aesthetic, but it does make for excellent interior flexibility and capacity, definitely carrying bigger (and carrying more) than, say, my Bellroy Venture Ready 20L. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what I think of the Whitley. Thanks again.

      Thanks for checking out the video and subscribing! Good feedback too. I would agree they are not my favorite bottle holders...Evergoods gets the trophy for best water bottle holders and I would love either a smaller CTB or a latptop pocket on the CHZ26...also for the Bellroy I am having some trouble with the straps slipping as I carry it especially with one shoulder. I need to look into what I can do to resolve that...it's almost too easy to slide the straps.

    • @SigurdKempf
      @SigurdKempf 2 місяці тому

      @@Bowmanthebagguy My exact thoughts too. The double-stitched hidden elasticated lip, the tiny hole for passive debris to escape, I mean, wow. Perfectly over-engineered, haha. The CHZ would be a brilliant lighter EDC, but I just can't live without my separate laptop area. I was really tempted by an AER 20L, and also the Pakt 22, but no one does comfort like EG. My dream bag for lighter EDC would be a CTB20 or 18 with a more padded top handle, side handles, small bottom handle, a better quality key leash, more reinforcement on the top of the straps, and zipper garages for better protection against the elements. But, to stay on the video, haha: Showing your realistic load-out with an overhead shot that offers great visibility - that was just awesome. So many reviewers neglect that part or just quickly brush over it. Very nice work!!

      Thanks for checking in. Long story short is I sold the Ultra 3.0 Kaidan bag. Overall both Bullet's are fantastic. I am still rocking my ripstop nylon as my daily carry and love it! The biggest factor for me is that I like the ripstop's softer feel and more flexibility over the Kaidan Ultra fabric. Getting in and out of some of the stash pockets and front pocket was a bit more difficult and I didn't love it! On the flip side I have a good friend who loves his doesn't like that Ripstop shows wear much easier and I agree the Ripstop in black especially show scuffs and scratches very easily...that doesn't bother me so that's what I'm sticking with! Happy to answer any other questions if you have something specific. Also, that blaze orange is such an awesome interior color...I almost wish GoRuck would make custom bags...I have ideas :)

    the thing with this bag, and everyone gets hung up on, is that yes its 18L, but I dont think this looks more minimzied than say a gr1 21L. lot more going on, it pokes out further off your back, like i dont get this at all. its a travel layout bag shoved into a small fat footprint.

    • @Bowmanthebagguy
      @Bowmanthebagguy 3 місяці тому

      I can agree with you on the Kaidan bag, the fabric is so stiff and formed that it does extend off the back a bit more than I would like. That is the reason I decided to use the Ripstop nylon as my daily. I am still using it as my daily and love that the fabric is much softer so it doesn't extend as far off my back. I have a 21L GR1 but I don't like how wide that is on my back, I really enjoy the more narrow size of the of the bullets. Overall it's a great problem to have that we all have so many options! :)

      Thanks for checking out the video! I am a fan for sure...it really depends on what you are looking for. For me I was very happy with the fact that it's more flexible of a fabric than the standard 1000D Cordura. The 1000D will certainly stand up to the test of time and anything else you put it through but for me the weight and rigidness was not my preference. Even the Carryology Kaidan (ULTRA 400X) fabric in my opinion is a bit more rigid than I prefer. It's softer than the 1000D but not as soft as the Ripstop. That all being said you have to weigh in the fact that the Ripstop won't be as strong and as durable so you may need to take GoRuck up on that Scars Guarantee from time to time but in my opinion that's why it's there!

The other item is that it does show wear and marks pretty easily. I have some white scuff marks on front and at first try to wipe them off they are still on the front and not coming off. I wish I could add pictures to my comments. If you want I can send some pics to you, just let me know.

    Great video and I figured it would be an awesome bag....but because I wanted to stay married, I passed. My biggest issue with backpack videos is that we never know what size the reviewer is. I am 6'5 and weigh 300 lbs, so I can never get a good mental picture of what that bag would look like on my frame. I also noticed that you have packed that bag to almost bursting. I prefer to have my GR2 36L lay flatter, even if it is wider. Just personal preference. Keep up the great content, you have earned a new subscriber!

    • @Bowmanthebagguy
      @Bowmanthebagguy 6 місяців тому

      Thanks for checking out my video and I really appreciate the subscription as well. So size wise, I'm 5"10, 230 lbs to help with perspective. I do have the bag packed out pretty well...my challenge is I really like when a bag can stand on it's own and sometimes that means I take my Bellroy tech kit, place it on the bottom of the main compartment and turn it flat to give the bag a bit more stability. That can unfortunately make the bag bulge a bit...I'm good with the trade off however especially with the Bullet since it's not super wide on my back..so the slim-ness of the bag itself lends itself to not looking as bulky. I laughed at the stay married comment...I really had to think about this purchase...I believe this is the most I have ever spent on a bag. I think I"ll get a few bucks back by selling the patches which I don't care for at all, so that sort of saved me a bit :)

    It's great that you have the right intention of this purchase - getting the bag, not the metal patch. So you were rewarded with the metal patch. This tells us that we should live our life with the right intention, anything given extra is a bonus. Great content, appreciate the review and hope to see more in the future. Happy New Year!

    What’s the weight of the ultra blaze version? And how does that compare with the nylon one?

    • @Bowmanthebagguy
      @Bowmanthebagguy 6 місяців тому

      Thanks for checking out the video. So w/out weighing them the Kaidan/Carryology definitely feels lighter. However after weighting them each empty the Ripstop nylon is just a bit lighter. I emptied them both and placed them in a bin and weighed them using a kitchen countertop scale and this is what they came in as. I still feel like the Kaidan carry's lighter, I know that doesn't make a lot of sense maybe it disperses it better, not sure. Kaidan: 3.13 LBS Ripstop: 2.158 LBS

    I'm trying to visualize this pack versus the evade 1.5 and the ctb looks much bigger than the 1L difference

    • @Bowmanthebagguy
      @Bowmanthebagguy 6 місяців тому

      Unfortunately I do not have any experience with the Evade 1.5...however with bags in general each brand's version of liters seems to not be in line with others. Biggest example is if you look at a GoRuck liter size because it doesn't have as many pockets you can typically fit much more than a bag from another brand with more pockets and organization. I will say the Evergoods CTB26 has a good amount of pockets and I can definitely fit more that 26L worth in my opinion however it does look big for sure.

      Thanks for checking out my video! You have me cracking up laughing! LOL! I’m in total agreement with you that it’s chunkier than I would like it to be…I think that is why I like the way the CHZ26 carries better. That being said I do love the organization of this one and just deal with the larger feel on my back. If it’s not crazy packed out you can pat it down and it will look a bit better but it definitely has a bigger type feel!

      @Bowmanthebagguy it's the material. I loved my cpl v3, BUT, it wanted to POOF! So frustrating. I put an ear bud in the bag, and later that day, it looked like I had 17L worth of stuff in it. I think for travel this is great. I dont think it's the bag as much as it is the material. I would for reference own the ct26, but the cpl due to it being chunky for edc is in an awkward place. Still drooling over the though of a cpl17 ish

Im in the minority here where i like my bags svelt, like a rocket ship on my back lol. Its why i like to use TAD products. Going fatter has zero appeal to my *** for eddc ***. Also why i didnt bother with bullet 16L or 18L, they just got fatter in design. I will test out the 16L though for sure to answer your question lol.

      I picked up the 18L Double Compartment last week and I have to say so far I love it! I'm going to give it another week or so and then do a video on it but it fits everything I had in my CTB26 and it's definitely much smaller form factor to carry around. I'm really starting to like the Bullet line for a lot of different items in my life.

    What material is this made out of? Is it 840D Nylon like the Thule Chasm? Or something else?

    • @Bowmanthebagguy
      @Bowmanthebagguy 9 місяців тому

      Thanks for stopping by and checking out the video. I couldn't quite determine the exact material. Thule likes to use both 600D and 1680D on their backpacks. It reminded me more of the 600D material I had on my 18L Thule EnRoute from years ago. It has a very slick/water repellant feel to it and seems rather durable. My Friend who let me borrow this for the review has been using it everyday for the past 7-8 months and it's holding up.

      Thanks for checking out my video...I would say sort of, but not very much. It has it's own depth for sure...I have noticed If I really pack out the bag especially width wise by the water bottle holder section it can be a tougher to get my 32oz. bottle in. That said a standard 16oz or 24 oz bottle won't be an issue at all...I only have a tougher time with a larger bottle and it still fits, just a bit more work.

    I have a CTB 26 and an Able Carry Max which is 30 liters. Here’s the crazy part. The Max was packed to the Max with my overnight travel gear and work equipment. The CTB 26 swallowed everything and I still have room. I use the lid of the 26 to hold my change of clothes. The Max needed a packing cube. The Laptop area on the Max is worthless for the three items (computer, iPad Pro 11 and iPad mini) I routinely carry. The 26 easily handles them. Don’t get me started on how awesome the water bottle pockets are. The exterior front pocket has that extra “dimension” that allows for an organizer (CAP 1). Then there’s the stash pockets on the 26 and the stash pocket on the Max. Again the 26 wins. Great review. You are why I own a 26.

      Thanks for checking out the video and thank you so much for the kind words. I try and give a simple and straight forward review on how I feel and use it. I do agree it's crazy how subjective the liter measurements are between bag companies...I have found Evergoods and GoRuck bags are so much bigger than the rest of the companies based on the liter measurement. So happy to hear you are loving the bag! It's a great bag and so far I'm still using it everyday! I think I am going to be purchasing a CAP 1 shortly and do the same for organization...thanks for sharing!
