This channel will mostly be about brief histories and testing of different U.S Military camouflages. I will mostly do a few U.S Army uniforms from the Vietnam War up to the Afghan/Iraq War (1970s to 2018). I myself am not a Veteran or Active Military but I am a Veteran Dependent. That being said I am only wearing the camouflage uniforms for educational and entertainment purposes.
Urban Camouflage USMC Style (1998)
This video is a demonstration of the Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT) conducted by the USMC in the 1990s. This specific camouflage was tested by the USMC in 1998 at Camp Lejeune. It is basically a BDU recolored into Urban colors. It was only tested but never officially issued. Instead it became popular among the public and is used in video games, movies, fashion, and other entertainment. Please watch my mini history video if you want more information on the pattern and more of a close up, link is at the end of the video.
Shout out to my friend Raymond a USMC Veteran who works at the CSUF Veteran Resource Center. I made this video for him as he is an awesome friend and helped me a lot during my CSUF days.

ERDL Differences and Woodland
Переглядів 558Місяць тому
This is a short video about the differences of ERDL Green Dominate, Brown Dominate, RDF ERDL, and Woodland camouflages of the U.S. Military. For more in depth information of a specific camouflage, please watch my in depth videos where I go into the history and test them.
M17 Gas Mask A1 or A2 Series (Missing Parts)
Переглядів 992 місяці тому
My friend Alex Ortega is a U.S. Army Veteran who works at California State University Fullerton (CSUF). He gave me a special gift of one of his M17 Gas Mask (possibly A1 or A2 series). It is missing a lot of parts, but it is a cool piece of history. The mask may have seen action in Desert Storm as it is an A1/A2 series of the M17 Gas Mask.
ERDL Brown Dominate (NLABS-1) Camouflage History and Test
Переглядів 406 місяців тому
This video is about the Brown Dominate ERDL camouflage also known as NLABS-1 or Highland ERDL. Mainly used during the Vietnam War it was made from 1968 to 1979, but can still be seen issued out to troops up until the late 1980s. Used mainly by Special Forces, MACV SOG, SEALs, Rangers, and other recon units during the Vietnam War, and then by U.S. Marines towards the end of the Vietnam War. Some...
RDF ERDL Camouflage History and Test
Переглядів 967 місяців тому
This is a brief history and test of the U.S. Army's RDF ERDL Camouflage (Rapid Deployment Force Engineer Research and Development Laboratories). Made between the years of about 1975 to 1981, but can be seen used up to 1990 before being completely replaced by M81 Woodland. Although it was used by the Rapid Deployment Force during the Cold War, Rangers, Special Forces, and the United States Marin...
South Korean Army Face Camouflage Tutorial
Переглядів 688 місяців тому
This video is for my friend James Cha. It is how to put the face camouflage of the Republic of Korea Army (ROKA) or South Korean Army style. They like to use bold stripes just like a tiger using green and black for woodland environments and for snow black and white. I had to use cheap face paint because I could not get my hands on the USGI stuff. But I think it came out ok for what it is. Also ...
Desert Night Camouflage History and Test

This video is about the Desert Night Camouflage parka and pants. Unfortunately I could not find any Documents or Field Manuals to refer to where I got my information, so I am just using memory from things I've read or heard in the past. Please feel free to correct me in the comments below. I tried to be historically accurate as possible. I also did a test of the camouflage against camera IR nig...
U.S. Army ERDL Camouflage Pattern (Green Dominate)
Переглядів 1239 місяців тому
This video is a brief history and demonstration of the U.S. Army ERDL camouflage used during the Vietnam War. It was first used by Special Forces, MACV SOG, LRRPs, Rangers, Navy SEALs, and other special recon units. Towards the end of the war the U.S. Marines adopted it and so did the rest of the U.S. Military. Because I don't have the full uniform I just went with the SEALs style using blue je...
Urban Camouflage BDU (M81 Woodland Type) Brief History and Test
Переглядів 4959 місяців тому
In this video I will give a brief history on the Urban BDU and also test it out in an urban environment (specifically the suburbs). I am wearing the full Urban BDU with a regular Woodland Patrol Cap and a basic A.L.I.C.E. Web Gear. This video will be short due to the lack of information on urban camouflages in general and because it is really hard to test this camo in an urban setting in public.
Thank you for this video, this will be useful guide for the newer Vietam war militaria collectors who think M81 woodland and ERDL are the same thing.
I think the effect is okay. I don’t know if it would be more suitable if the white was removed and changed to other gray or gray-black series colors as a gradient color between the other two colors. I feel that acu should be very suitable for this environment. Although it has a bad reputation in Afghanistan, there are many mountains there. If it is used in a modern city, acu should still have a certain effect (personal layman's opinion) I have also paid a little attention to urban camouflage and thought about how to camouflage it in the city. There are shopping malls, department stores, various buildings and restaurants, and even residential or office buildings. Later, I thought about it and the result is that I can only choose one of them and cannot cover everything. The most common public facilities in modern cities are asphalt roads, cement walls and cement scenes. There should be camouflage clothing made of these colors. Good camouflage effect (compared to other colors) Thank you for sharing, I have gained new knowledge. I wish you happiness and good health.
ACUs are pretty good in gravel colored areas. Also if you dirty them in the environment you are in they are pretty good.
Thank you😺
You're welcome 😊
Thank you😺
You're welcome 😊
Good video. It appears that your camo was more effective at a distance since things tend to essentially fade to a shade of grey in urban environments. If your set was a little more faded, it might be more effective. And another pattern you should try out is subdued urban or night urban camo. Its the same pattern but in a darker grey colorway for night operations. Overall an excellent video. 😎👍
It does work well from a distance! Unfortunately I couldn't film from a distance because I got the cops called on me for looking "suspicious" so I had to stop filming in my neighborhood.
@XC-20K that sucks, hope you were OK. Maybe next time, try finding an abandoned building for testing out your urban set? Or having some of your buddies set up a cordoned off area for you to test out your camo? Hope this helps. 😎👍
I had an RDF cut jacket that was made in 1980 that was entirely comprised of green dominant ERDL fabric. Pretty much all of the tags, no matter if they were green dominant, brown dominant or RDF ERDL camo fabric, the tag would simply say "hot weather camouflage pattern". Sometimes, the uniforms was comprised of both types of ERDL camo fabrics, they were nicknamed "clown pants" or "jacket". Overall, an excellent video. 😎👍
That's awesome! I always found it funny how the U.S. Military recycled the older ERDL camos to make them into the RDF cut. I feel like buying one, but they are hard to find in size Medium Long or Large Regular.
@XC-20K try hitting up the thrift stores. I found a set of deadstock, NOS Vietnam War era Green dominant ERDL, in medium regular. And once, I found a pair of large regular RDF erdl pants in good used condition.
My dad was issued the '68, I believe.
That's awesome! The Green Dominate one I have is in pretty bad shape but is still wearable.
My favorite camouflage! Actually, US Woodland, but I love erdl as well. Most people won't tell the difference anyway.
Yeah most people think all of these are woodland.
Still looks better than acu pattern
ACU is not too bad in Urban Areas but it still sticks out. ACU works pretty well with adobe made buildings in deserts with the sun out.
Lime leaf 🌿 green dominant lowlands ( wet season ) , and brown dominant highlands mountainous ( dry season ) supposedly . Vietnam era ERDL , experimental research development laboratories . Actually originating from WW2 experimental patterns. Then there is a 1976-78 Central America Brown dominant ERDL.
Cool. I have individual videos on each pattern. This was just a comparison video.
Awesome video!
Thanks!
We used the MCU-2P in my day. It's a pretty good mask with a single big visor instead of individual small eyelets. You can pick it up pretty cheap nowadays for like $85 actually. MCU-2P filters can be changed on the fly, so that's a plus! It's a relatively modern gas mask being late 90's early 2000's vintage. It's a pretty good item to have "just in case"! You never know....a doomsday cult called Aum Shinrikyo attack a subway in japan in the mid 90s. I could see a terrorist trying to use it again maybe. Also there's the ever present danger of trains wrecking and spewing toxic chemicals everywhere like it did in Ohio recently.
I think that mask was for Air Force and Navy. Army and Marines used the old M17A2 for the longest.
It's good for rocky terrain that has lots of grey rocks, leafless tree branches, and a dusting of snow.
True, I feel like I would give this camo a C+ rating in terms of Urban areas. Snow Woodland might bump it up to a B-
It's good for snowy environments with lots of rocks and sticks though!
True! It works well in woodland snow areas, but I would have to wait for winter for that video!
Cool video man. Even brent0331 hasn't done an urban camo effectivness video.
I love brent0331! He inspired me as a high school kid to make UA-cam videos when I got older.
Person looking out their window: I think we're being invaded by the Taliban or Fidel Castro...
I actually did get the cops called on me, even though I was filming in public places HaHa! That's why at the end of the video I had to film in my backyard!
@@XC-20K I would have loved to hear the cop "you know the times you shouldn't be walking around like this"
U.S. Woodland is my favorite camo.
Same here! I love woodland.
@@XC-20K it does not perform well under IR. Too much black, no? I think the Czech M95 is quite a bit more effective, especially the woodland one.
Love that camo!
Me too! I think it just looks cool. Sure it does not work that well in Urban Areas but its better than nothing.
Better off going grey man for whats coming shortly. Good luck.
Nah, I don't like grey man. It sticks out during the day in areas that are not concrete or grey color. Remember Urban areas have so many man made colors.
@@XC-20K bro thats not what grey man means
Lol if it’s semi autistic guys who watch this “for what’s to come” you’re wasting your time.
I have 5 or 6 of the green dominant. I really liked the ERDL but in the RDF cut as I have my fathers from his time in service. Keep collecting and keep posting content.
Awesome!
Hey awesome vid man and tutorial
Thanks
Here in Mexico City, I have been able to pick up a number of blouses in ERDL. Pants are more difficult to find. On my channel, you can see a whole lot of what I have found here. Thanks for the reply.
Awesome! The Green Dominate one I have is in pretty bad shape and is missing a left pocket but I only got it for $30.
Great video showcasing the evolution of ERDL camouflage from the 1960’s into the Brown dominant RDF 80’s version and even into the m81 woodland. It’s such an interesting hobby. Which is your favorite? How did you find the uniforms in your video? Any other items you’re still hunting for? Keep up the great work. Saludos from the @mikeinmexoco Militaria channel
I mostly got the older stuff from eBay. I got very lucky with the ERDL camo as these are becoming extremely hard to find in sizes large or medium. You an find size small relatively easy and cheaper. My favorite is the M81 Woodland as that is the one my dad wore. I am still hunting for pants in the ERDL camo but I highly doubt I will find a size Large that is under $40.
Oh. Man. That is one skeleton of an M17. That is an M17a2 since it was manufactured in 1984
It is a skeleton of an M17, but my friend gave it to me as a gift so it has sentimental value to me haha!
No shout out for tio Gio? Roger that.
This was for Alex's M17 Gas Mask. I have a special video for your ACU Tio Gio! I still need to find a Desert terrain to test it in. I already recorded it in woodland, and urban terrains, just need desert.
USMC cover
Thanks for the correction.
Dude u probably have more civilian larping training than me I mainly like to larp but it gets really hot in these days
I actually learned a lot of low crawling moves and concealment from my dad. He is a U.S. Army Veteran, and he said staying low is the best way to move unseen. Of course standing and running around will make it easier for people to see you.
Good video man!
Glad you liked it!
U are from the 80s and time traveled to 2023 I still think the old days haven't changed all the way we are in a more futuristic time but still feels like as if it where even the 80s and 90s too and early 2000s
I'm not from the 80's but I do like stuff from the 80's.
@@XC-20Kme too
Their is T-Block, Urban Marpat,Woodland Urban not this one but a tan lookin one from the early 90s I think and even Naticks Urban Track camo and I'm not sure if they have it in the US army but Multicam Ribble or Urban I like Urban camo and blue camo the most
True, but I don't think I'll ever get my hands on T-Block or any other urban camo because they are way too expensive.
Dude this deserves 1 billion likes u are lookin Hardcore Af and u got desert night camo I hope u get to billion subs in the future
Thanks
ROC Soldiers!!
YEAH!!!
I didn’t know there was so much history to these uniforms.
Their is a whole lot of history with every uniform. What did you think of the Desert Night Camo? Pretty clever that I used my camera night vision huh.
Great video with lots of amazing history. I never knew about any of this.
Such a cool video with great history!!
Thanks Giovanni! I decided to do the Urban BDU since I don't really see anybody talk or even use it. I can't wait to do videos on my other camouflages!
Beautiful dude urban camo punk
