    I have 2x 58V saws, and 2x 4Ah and 1x newish 8Ah battery. With the 8Ah battery, they go quite a long time. I never had that stopping thing from the 'cold' battery, but being is SE Qld I don't go out cutting wood or any other work unless it is around 14 degrees (retired). A super sharp chain is the must. And if that's the case, not much pressure is needed to let it do its stuff. I have cut seasoned ironbark 14 to 16" round, and it does a fab job. Yes, if I was a professional timber cutter, I have still Magnum or bigger, but for our firewood cutting or tree trimming, the best thing ever. Living away from town, no runnto the servo to get fuel. Battflat = time for a beer.

    The only way to stop the chain lube coming out is to lay it on its left side not the bottom as the oiler is on the chain side obviously. In the manual AEG suggest to empty the lube tank, but it's not practical to do so.

    I dont have the battery issues, but I'm on the newer 'black top' batteries and I use 2 x 8ah. No cold battery issues, blends any hardness of wood for more than long enough until I'm tired. I have an old Stihl Farm Boss which is 'better' but I use this chainsaw because I don't like the Range Rover smelling like fuel and dealing with the stains from the consdant leaks. I store the electric cordless in the boot to clear roads and simultaneously collect free firewood. I also have a corded electric which is small, light and handy when a point is nearby. All good, all have their pros and cons.

      My aeg has the exact same problems and it the machine not the man. The way around the battery cutting out is to pull the battery out of the socket and push back in again. This isn’t ideal and it’s clearly a fault which was rectified with the new battery. The train comes off too easily and it leaks oil pipe easily as well. I’ve only put up with it because I got it for free in a bundle as an extra whilst on clearance. All up I got the mower blower trimmer and chainsaw for $900 with the charger and two batteries included which was a great deal. The batteries have since failed on warranty and I’ve had them replaced by aeg as Bunnings was out of stock at the time then Bunnings got more in stock and gave me another set as well which worked out brilliantly.

Just in case anyone is in the same boat, I edited my video first, rendered the edited version, and then started a new project for blurring out the portions I need to blur. (Personal contact information) It seems a lot easier than trying to edit two versions of the same video so I can use the compositor as needed on version 2.8. Thank you very much for the video. May I know why did you install fuse and emergency switch on the cable that is connected to negative B? Thank you

    • @christopherwalkden
      @christopherwalkden 5 місяців тому

      This was in case something went wrong. The fuse would blow if I drew an immense amount of current by mistake. The switch was to give me an easy way to make or break the circuit. It wouldn't matter where this was in the circuit, it could have been on the positive terminal. In my case the connectors fitted onto the negative terminal neatly.

    Hi Christopher. Thank you for this video, really appreciated. We are also using Elcon 1kW dc to dc converter for an EV. I would like to know where do you get your 12V enable? is it coming from the same 12V battery that the converter is charging? also, where is this +12V is referenced to? I mean, where does Elcon converter take as GND or reference point when receiving +12V enable? Thank you so much.

    • @christopherwalkden
      @christopherwalkden 5 місяців тому

      The enable line is referenced to the 12V output (GND) from the Elcon converter. I wanted it enabled all the time, so I connected the enable line to the 12V + battery terminal. Yes, the same battery that the converter is charging.

    • @sajjadabdollah

      @@christopherwalkden Thank you for your response. My previous 2 comments disappeared after posting. I try my luck again. I have been doing the same thing as you described in your video and in your earlier reply to my inquiry. but there is no output at all. I also tried different ways like providing 12V enable from BMS. that also didn't work. There is this forum post on "diyelectriccar" where people discuss the same issue that they are having with Elcon 500W converter. one of the answers cited Elcon support team and according to them the 12V enable should be tapped on B+ of the traction pack. Although our Elcon converter has different power rating (1kW), can I assume the working principle of the both converter is the same? Do you think it is safe to tap 12V enable of my Elcon converter to the B+ of traction pack? Alternatively, do you think it is possible to setup the converter via its CAN bus. My Elcon converter is not compatible with my BMS but some people on forums offered an alternative method using Arduino. Given the current circumstance where converter does not turn on with 12V enable, do you think using Arduino-based CAN controller will do the job? To my understanding, in order to be able to communicate with the device via CAN, first I must be able to wake the device up using enable signal. otherwise, CAN communication will have no effect. Is that correct? Thank you.

    • @christopherwalkden
      @christopherwalkden 5 місяців тому

      @@sajjadabdollah I'm afraid I only have experience with this particular model, working in this particular way. Mine definitely works with the enable line referenced to the output (12V). Given that, I don't think I'd try connecting it to B+ of the traction pack unless I was told to by the supplier. But your model may be different to mine. Perhaps it has a fault? Can you contact the supplier? Sorry, I haven't used CAN for this device, and can't give you any advice there.

      @@christopherwalkden Thank you dear Christopher. Converter is working now and charging the battery. I have another question. What is the Ah of your 12V battery. I understand your EV comes with heater and perhaps AirCond. • @christopherwalkden
      @christopherwalkden 5 місяців тому

      My aircon is 150V, and I don't have power steering, so I might have less load than you. See if you can calculate all your loads. 35 Ah is about 420 Wh, so it would run my 200 W headlights for about two hours. But the power steering might be much more than that?

    Thanks mate. I've had my AEG Line Trimmer since late 2016 & was so impressed I bought the mower (last day of 2016) & in 2017 bought blower, hedge trimmer & chainsaw. The Line Trimmer is still going strong (probably don't use it as much as you), but two of my batteries (out of six) developed faults & no longer charge (I'm not inclined to change cells & I wouldn't be as confident in the safety during charging & under load etc), so late in 2023 I bought another (58V) Line Trimmer kit with the 8Ah Ultimate battery & with a bonus 4Ah Ultimate battery (yet to come). It is great! The 8Ah battery doesn't want to work in my 7 year mower though, but is fine in all my other tools (includes jet blower & Brushcutter I bought soon after release). I have however fallen for buying another mower as it was on clearance & with an extra discount being a display model. It was the AEG 21" Self-propelled kit with 2 x 4Ah Ultimate batteries (with charger), however I got it home & the batteries were dead & won't charge. I have to wait for more of those batteries to come back into stock soon to exchange (be interesting if they will work in the old mower, which they should), however the new 21" mower works great, with original 4Ah batteries & also the 8Ah Ultimate battery. No, I wasn't going to return the kit since I got it at $500 off normal price & am happy to wait for replacement batteries. 😉 I also have some of their 18v gear as well, so use the 18v Line Trimmer for grass edging & the 18V Hedge Trimmer too, together with the Pole Hedge Trimmer attachment on the 58V Line Trimmer drive. BTW, the 4Ah Ultimate batteries are $299 while the 8Ah Ultimate battery is $499, so better value for capacity, however, buying batteries separately is always going to be more expensive (did that back in 2017) & one should buy the kits when possible to get them & a charger at a much cheaper price & also the best time to buy is during bonus offers too. 😊

      I haven't seen that, no. Sounds like there might be a problem with your drive controller. There are three controllers, one for each blade and one for the drive. They are all labelled. I'd try unplugging the drive one and plugging it back in again. Check the plugs for faulty pins (coming out of the plugs), and check the wires for breaks.

    This is the best most honest review of the AEG 18" e-saw. Its warts and all and has put me decidedly off buying any e-saw. I only do hardwood firewood in WA, such as Jarrah, Karri, etc.. Paying that price for only 7 minutes run time including constantly Li battery shutdowns! AEG are having a laugh with this. Then you have pay another cuppla hundred bucks for a second battery! "It's Ok for cutting branches and small greenwood"! So why would I buy an 18inch bar chainsaw for doing branches and twiggery, BTW - in 40 years of using a chainsaw I've only ever had a chain come off twice and that was because the bar was worn out. Here we have it where the chain comes off pretty often by the sound of it. I'm unimpressed, despite me being an AEG guy. I'll stick with my 20 year old petrol Stihl thank you.
