The Forgotten Natural Attraction In Uluru National Park
Переглядів 607 годин тому
#Uluru #KataTjuta #Australia So today we went to the other natural attraction at Uluru National Park. We decided to go to Kata Tjuta (Mt Olga). Apologies for the wind. I need to find a better way to block that crap out. I turned it down and put subtitles in the clips where it was really bad (this was so you could know what I was saying).
Three Days At Uluru (Not What I Expected)

#uluru #australia #australianoutback Not sure if you've ever seen pictures or heard about a random red rock in the middle of Australia, but if you have, that's where we are. We managed to escape the flooding in the Northern Territory to the relatively less but still very wet Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. A lot of the rain made for some great visuals of Uluru as well as other surprises. Enjoy....

The Journey To Uluru (From Alice Springs) 🇦🇺

#journey #uluru #alicesprings The journey to Uluru from Alice Springs is treacherous, long (about 4.5 to 5 hour drive) and boring. The journey will be met with a surprisingly colorful Australian outback (there was a monsoon that dumped a ton of rain on the Northern Territory), a tiny rest stop with cell phone connection (there's none in most of the outback), random herds of cows that (I was tol...

I moved from the middle US to Melbourne about 15 years ago. It took me years to stop saying the 2nd syllable as "burrrrn"! fyi, street art and graffiti are pretty much the same thing, with more and less talent evident. There are a lot of untalented types spraying random stuff over some impressive stuff in Hosier Lane, which at first seems like a shame. But if they didn't, no one would come paint something else good over the eventual build up of crap. It changes every time I go down there. That paint must be very thick by now.

Britain also sent a lot of Irish 'rebels' (people who objected to the British invasion of Ireland) to Australia. The British attempted to suppress Catholicism in Australia, leading to a longstanding cultural division between Anglo and Scottish migrants and the Catholic population. The Anglo ascendancy didn't feel much of it, but the Catholics knew all about it.

Uluru is quite a rock, but radical politics has destroyed access. Urban part-Aboriginal activists declared to gullible whites and academics that it is sacred and cannot be climbed. In the early 1970s, as a Commonwealth Government Welfare Officer, I interviewed the actual songmen responsible for the several ceremony places around the base of the Rock and they said these were the sacred places, not the high part of the rock. Their concern was to have the public permanently banned from the ceremony sites. They had no interest in who went up and down the rock itself, as long as they adhered to the gradual ascent spur on which chains have been installed. In the coming months, the urban frauds will be exposed, along with the billions of dollars squandered by these criminals. Hopefully, when sanity is restored to the transcultural interface, and Aboriginal law is recognised by the nation, the current conflicts will dissipate.

As a Tasmanian who specialises in convict history, I say well done! Very well researched and interesting. 20% of Australians can trace their ancestry to convicts and in Tasmania it is as high as 70%! I know of nine in my family tree. All transported for petty theft except one, who broke in to his employer's takings and stole a substantial sum. He was offered leniency because he was young.

It's rare to experience wet weather in Central Australia. If there is ongoing rain, I would recommend that you travel to Uluru. Rain on the Rock is a very rare experience! The rock at Simpson's Gap is red sandstone. Sandstone makes up most of the beautiful geological features in Central Australia. I guess you like to hike, so I'd also recommend a trip to King's Canyon (in the native language "Watarrka"). There is a six kilometer walk up around the rim of the canyon. It's an amazing place. If you swim across the twenty meter deep pool at the "Garden of Eden" there, you can look out over the canyon edge and see the country heading for Western Australia. You probably won't see any sign of civilization unless there happens to be a road train heading west.

@@JazzyTravels-bp1pqIt's a pity that you didn't get to visit King's Canyon. Back in September 1998, I drove 10,500 kilometers around Australia with my wife (who passed away in 2015) and my daughter and son, who were ten and five years old respectively at the time. We traveled from our home in Newcastle New South Wales up to North Queensland, across into the Northern Territory, down to South Australia, and back home via western Victoria and New South Wales. While at King's Canyon, I swam across the twenty meter deep pool at the Garden of Eden there, and sat on a rock there looking out over the escarpment towards the way to Western Australia. I've never felt closer to the Creator anywhere in the world than I did there.
