    Thanks for the advice! Do you have any thoughts, advice, or recommendations for best practices when fighting for your idea/vision while remaining collaborative throughout the many phases of selling and producing your scripts?

    • @TVsteve65
      @TVsteve65 Місяць тому

      Solid question. Part of the opportunity is to lean into the "collaborative" part and let go of the "fighting" part. Seriously, it's good to start from a place of being willing to receive help when it's offered and to understand that most suggestions are genuinely an attempt to make the piece better. That said, a few things to think about: 1) What's the note behind the note? It may not be so much about the specifics but about an underlying story issue that could be fixed some other way than what's suggested. 2) Weigh the value of the suggestion. Would it HURT the script to make a change? If not, maybe it's worth doing. (There are many times when I find that a change might be simpler than I imagine at first. In those instances I realize how easily I get defensive when I hear the note, but I come to see that it's not a big deal.) 3) IF you feel like it would FUNDAMENTALLY ALTER what you're trying to do, then I'd firmly push back and not do the note. (And, depending on the circumstance, you may have to be willing to walk away from a partnership if this becomes a sticking point.) 4) Whether you take a note or not, TAKE THE TIME to consider it fully. Always be prepared, in any note session to say "Let me think about that." That holds the door open for a collaborative exchange.

    • @noelwiggins7167
      @noelwiggins7167 Місяць тому

      @@TVsteve65 TY so much! Especially about weighing the value and taking a step back to recognize why I might get defensive over a note for no real reason other than me feeling a certain type of way. Especially when the note is a simple and quick revision.

    Nice video! I am not a writer, nor did I know what a general meeting is. I clicked on the video because of the engaging smile in the thumbnail. 🙂 Upon some reflection, maybe the reason I got this video is because I was researching how to get a band booked on a TV show, which I suppose is an adjacent field. In any case, this was an enjoyable and informative video. It may come in handy someday when I least expect it. Thanks! (PS. You have a typo in the title.)

      I'm not a TV Director (not as of yet) so I can't really tell you about that, though I've worked alongside them (see the TV Writer On Set playlist for some insights). As for being a producer, it depends on what you mean by that. In TV, "producer" can mean many things. Writers of a certain level have the title of producer (I'm a Co-Executive Producer), but also there are non-writing producers who handle logistical things (like deal with budgets or hiring or travel). In film, producers are (by and large) money people. For insights into writer/producer duties in TV, see the TV Writer On Set playlist - that's where I cover those duties from a writer's perspective. If you still have questions after that, let me know.
