Our December presentation - The Ealing Comedies

NO PASSPORT REQUIRED We had considered declaring the Wilmot Street Community Hall an enclave of the Dukedom of Burgundy for the duration of our next meeting. This would have allowed us to circumvent UK law with respect to liquor licensing, music, dance and anything else we wanted, thus helping to make our Christmas get-together a jolly one. But then someone pointed out we might have to set up a...
Heanor Quads - The Carpenter Quads Part II
Переглядів 53Рік тому
The second part of our video about Heanor's Carpenter Quads who arrived on the 28th February 1944. This one picks up the story with a Central Television News broadcast from 2008 that looks at what happened when the family members in this country got to see the film, recovered from a junk shop, of the newly born quins.
The visit of King George V to Heanor in 1914

HAIL TO THE KING! At the History Society we produce a full colour, monthly newsletter containing items about the past of Heanor. I think it’s fair to say that our readers learn something new about the town from the varied and wide-ranging articles in each issue. For example in the November issue we looked at coal mining in Smalley, at the memories of a 97 year old Heanor man, at the town’s Carp...
A Heanor Ghost Story for Halloween. The tale of Sukey White
Переглядів 187Рік тому
DON’T EAT THE PANCAKES It’s Halloween, a time to remember the dead. According to some, it’s also a time when the dead return to this mortal coil in ghostly form. Perhaps then it would be best to avoid those areas where we suspect ghosts linger, like Sukey's Hollow, at least for tonight anyway. Here is a 19th century poem recalling Sukey’s demise. Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday, when men went ...
Heanor dialect
Переглядів 561Рік тому
Can you remember how we used to speak in Heanor? They tell me we forget a little bit with each new generation; a gradual loss which means we don’t notice. This charming anecdote about a local businessman reminds us how things were and is just a snippet from a much longer recording held by the British Library that captures some of our lost dialect. It was recorded by a group of elderly people, e...

The Aristocrat of silk stockings

In an edition of The Footage Detectives on Talking Pictures TV (27th August 2023) they included a film of the Aristoc factory at Langley Mill which showed some of the processes involved in making ladies nylon stockings. Can to tell us anything about it or the processes they’re talking about in the film? Or maybe you recognise some of the people? By co-incidence, our September newsletter, will i...

I love that
Looking for to coming to the meetings at some point
This is the best version
No politics,no swearing,no insults.Just pure comedy gold!
Footpath from heanor park to ella bank road
Love this and very fond memories of Derek Needham and Sheila Needham.
Brilliant thank you 😂 RIP Bob Newhart 1929-2024 Thanks for all the laughs
He will be missed. A truly funny guy. His deadpan style. RIP.
It is a shame that in light of Bob Newhart's recent passing and all the reporting on Bob Newhart and his comedy legacy no mention seems to be made of his early comedy sketch albums which are pure genius. Can this be rectified somehow? Thank goodness some things are on youtube. He was a fine comedic actor but these sketches are pure gold and show an incredible and hilarious imagination and wit beyond belief! He deserves to be remembered for this stuff!!
My favorite Newhart sketch
"My jurisdiction only goes up to his navel." His delivery is sublime.
RIP Bob. 😢
Without a doubt the best comedian in my opinion. Immaculate timing, deadpan facial and vocal characteristics. Seeing him on The Big Bang Theory was an absolute treasured gift that he gave to us.
There's an apes toe coming through the window. Nuff said.
Bus Driver Training was another wonderful bit on the same album.
All my hero’s are nearly all gone so I guess I’m moving up the death ladder at an alarming rate.😮😮😮😮😮
Should have King Kong gotten a place in the village and that would have solved everything.
I absolutely love his delivery. Skits are so well thought out - there is no one like him today!
This one of my favorite routines
The one and only Bob Newhart………….😊
Great video. 20 years after he walked on the moon. The Missile opened in '89? I thought it was later...
One of the absolutely comedic genius of all time, maybe Robin Williams… nobody else holds a candle.
I would put Rodney Dangerfield, Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder a very close second.
Victor Borge. Abbot and Costello.
The Buttoned Down Mind Of Bob Newhart
The pauses are the best part.
He has perfect timing!
funny when I was young still funny
This is my favorite skit.
It's too true!
I liked the one where a woman across the street has fallen out of the window and he’s yelling instructions to her.😂🤣😂
@@JGLy22086 A guy goes away on a trip and ask his neighbor to look after his cat. When he returns his neighbor tells him his cat is dead. The guy asks what happened, and the neighbor tell him the cat got out through an open window, somehow climbed to the roof, and fell off. The guy says that is how you should have told me by describing what happened, not just blurt out, "your cat is dead." A couple of months later he has to go on another trip and asks his neighbor to go over to his grandmother's house and check on her regularly. When he gets back, he asks his neighbor how everything went with his grandmother. The neighbor says, "Well she managed to crawl out through an open window..."
All Newhart albums are great. We had all his albums plus Allen Sherman, Jose Jimenez, Shelley Berman, and "A child's garden of Freeberg" by Stan Freeberg.
Berman killed
One of my favorite episodes of "The Twilight Zone" stars Shelley Berman ("The Mind and the Matter").
this bombed on snl
Who cares???
That's a compliment to the piece.
Humor has changed over time and has become more raunchy.
@@im1who84u exactly. No subtlety either
I still love Abraham Lincoln vs Madison Ave.
He's SO funny. I'm glad he's still alive. We are losing the greats at a staggering rate these days.
Timeless comedy. I remember this from when I was a kid and my parents had several of his albums. Still cracks me up at age 60.
We never had any comedy albums, but I remember my best friend's parents had a Bill Cosby album which included the giant heart routine.
"Shoo Ape!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
I was gonna take the elevator up to his head.
That was great. If u like that try the driving instructor or the best one type in his name then tobacco skit and it will pop up
The driving instructor is internationally famous. I still remember that from when I was a kid in the UK. . Time is travelling much faster these days, but I am guessing that would be about about 10 years ago.
His timing is impeccable.
INDEED!!! 🎯🎯🎯
Apes And Apes’ Toes.
Where abouts in Shipley was this and how long ago?
1987 and Home Farm. So 36 years ago. If you know the park, Home Farm is near the water tower.
@@heanordistrictlocalhistory155 Is that the farm up by the ruins?
@@SimJackson It's the one by the water tower. Near the start of the video the presenter stands atop the water tower looking down on the farm, that's how close it is. If by 'ruins' you mean the site of Shipley Hall, then yes, that is nearby.
So cool to see this old footage
I'm playing fretless bass on this track.
