Hi Benedikt, great question and greetings from Canada! It's a little bit of both. The block mold is flooded with pre-expanded EPS or GPS beads and then steam is injected into the mold cavity. The heat energy from the steam forces the bead to expand for a final time and take the shape of the mold. The beads expand in the limited space available and begin to fuse into each other on a microscopic level. That fusion is what holds them together and gives that voronoi cell look that you're seeing. That's a great point, and a lot of builders like Zont for that purpose! However for ICF crews who do not stick around to build the rest of the house, steel strongback systems like Giraffe or Plumwall might make more sense. The true purpose of this video was to try to introduce the idea that there's no such thing as the "best" bracing system, it all depends on how you and your crew work and what type of jobs you're doing. Great question! That's a product called Uniscaf that's designed to be used with regular masonry scaffold. It attaches to masonry scaffold and the ICF, and has a turnbuckle integrated to allow for adjustment of the ICF wall. I'm not sure if it's still manufactured, you don't see it around very often. Might be something to check on with your local masonry supply store to see if they have any ideas. --Jay from AMC Foam

Hi Brett, every type of structure requires proper insect and termite mitigation details depending on the local/regional prevalence of pests. We've never heard of a pest company refusing to treat a home based on the structure type. Most ICF manufactures (including LOGIX ICF) offer product lines that have termite treatments added to the foam material upon special order for high infestation regions, however again this is not a replacement for standard mitigation techniques. Thankfully with an ICF structure there is no risk of structural damage to the building if termite or carpenter ant intrusion occurs, unlike wood framed buildings which are at much higher structural risk. @@amcfoamtech I am aware in the southeast of pest control companies not being willing to provide termite bonds or even touch a home that has an ICF foundation because the foam allows a pathway for termites to get into the house that a pest control company cannot see.
