Here's why the Optrel Crystal 2.0 is a fantastic welding helmet!
Hi, does this material rust, and can it be polished to a high sheen?
Great question! There are steel particles that have the potential to rust. It also likely will not achieve a high sheen using polish. It would look more like a shiny gray instead of polished steel.
No good for air conditioning aluminium tube. there are dozens of low temperature flux based rods to use instead.
I have always used 6011, only had one failure. Very interested in trying this wire.
Wait until you see the price on this wire, as well as the other mig wires.
Who would weld a trailer hitch with hard wire. That calls for 71 series fluxcore all day
Thanks for useful video. Someone told me that those types of carbides if are not in high speed the are damaged, the are getting heavily dulled and after that they are useless. Is it so? And how many revs is the correct speed?
Remember : always use the right tool for the job, everything can be a hammer, most things can be a pry bar😂
chromium is also the equivalant of anti weld. It likes to oxidize quickly. so this sounds promising but dont see this product on german websites :/
Hi @thedazzlingape2006! This is a proprietary Rockmount product, so you will only see it online through Rockmount or one of our approved online distributors. Plus side...we ship internationally! If you would like to see what it would look like to get this shipped to Germany, we can provide a quote for you with estimated shipping charges. Give us a call at (360) 254-2020
that's a terrible weld, and up-to 1/4" thick, you don't generally need preheat.
Cool yes, practical no. Stop please all these companies making full face shields that just get scratched up so fast then charge a lot for replacements
How does the helix quattro visibility compare to the crystal 2.0 while welding?
Thanks for asking! The key differences are angular dependence and light state when not welding. The Quattro lens features a 1/1/1/1 classification while the CLT lens in the Crystal 2.0 is a 1/1/1/2. If you frequently weld at off-angles, the Quattro provides better protection with full darkness across the entire lens, whereas the CLT lens is slightly lighter towards the edges. Both lenses have tru-color and include Shadtronics and Fadtronics technology. The other key difference is the light state. The light state of the Crystal 2.0 (or CLT lens) is a 2.0 where the Quattro is a 3.0 (slightly darker). If you like to use the internal flip up the Helix provides, then you can achieve a fully clear light state when using the internal flip up without having to remove your hood.
@@rockmountwelding thank you very much for the quick and thorough response! Do you know if there are any videos showing the visual difference during welding?
There are a few "thru the lens" views on our IG and TikTok (@rockmountwelding) for the CLT. Unfortunately, we do not have one for the Quattro.
i have a tube but would it be strong enough to hold a bolt the bolt eye has snapped im wndering if this could be a temp fix rather than welding or new parts thanks
Thanks for asking! This is an interesting case. We would need more information to give a solid recommendation. Shoot us an email at getintouch@rockmountwelding.com. We'll can chat over the technical side further and help figure out the best solution from there!
I always enjoy your very informative videos. I use to be a QC welding tech for your competitor whose name rymes with uranium... back in Cleveland, OH circa mid 70's !
Thanks for the kind words. I remember your old company, they were the big boys back then, and were worthy competition.
Always informative video Good job you can see why everybody loves the Polaris line of welding wire and stick
Seems like someone promoting a welding product with a video ought to hire an expert to produce photos that let the prospective customer see the weld puddle, not just arc flash and smoke, and talk.
I don’t disagree, but it’s easier said than done. I’ve been trying to hire someone to do just that for months. These guys make top notch stuff. I’ve never used their wire but their stick electrodes make me look good every time I use them. I do a lot of field repairs on Boring and utility insulation equipment, an industry that seems to have far less metallurgical knowledge than you’d expect. Dissimilar metals, dirty metals, crack repair in high vibration applications I can’t say anything bad about their products other than they’re a little pricey.
@@timblack33 Tim, it sounds like you and I are getting similar work. I just finished repairing the badly broken outer end of the crowd-arm on a smallish excavator. It always astounds me how light, how thinwall these things are made, and with no doublers at the key locations, as if they are only supposed to dump beauty bark into Datsun pickups. So I'll take your word for it and pick up some of the rod. Thanks for the info.
@@timblack33 This is really helpful context. Thanks so much for your wonderful endorsement of our products!
I agree with you. Had a tech problem during the shoot and the welding image got blown out. Time constraints precluded us reshooting. We will do better next time. Bad welding image, great product.
@@patrickadams6870 Good luck, Patrick. If it were easy, I'd do it, rather than sit here and carp!!
I was panicking, because I was worried the beer would go flat before he drank it!

I still have a screwdriver from a rep that had us test RM welding rods long ago. It's my favorite screwdriver! I really need to try this flux.
Ever considered a 12 step program 😂
Tried a panoramaxx helmet that my boss claimed cost 800 euros. The next day my aliexpress 25 euros helmet arrived. Didin't see any difference in image clarity. Kinda lame

Good information on pre heating. Thanks
Amazing stuff!
Can I use this on my oxidised neck on water pump I cleaned all the oxidisation off and there’s pitting can I use this to make a smooth surface again to take the radiator hose
Thanks for the question! Mark from Rockmount here. As long as the neck is clean it should work great for that repair! It will fill in the pitting nicely.
Absolutely fantastic rods! I’m a novice welder but I’ve had ‘The Knack’ my entire life and so I’m always on the look out for exemplary products. I’ve worked with some incredibly technical material and it’s made me stock my (very) small shop with the best because it’s all I have space for, literally. These rods will always be around in the shop. Holy G-d are these things serious juice. You feel those 220+ amps to the fullest coming off of ‘em and it sliced through a piece of rebar in well under 20 seconds once I mastered the pool. I’m sure with more practice I’ll use less rod, but even for me it wasn’t extreme. I took less than an inch off the damn thing to bust that bar. 💥
So 7018 is not enough?
$32.90/pound for Polaris A

Can cast iron be welded with Polaris AAA?
Mark from Rockmount here, for Cast Iron our Jupiter alloys are what we recommend. Cast Iron has different metallurgical characteristics than steel, so it takes a different type of alloy to weld it. Thanks for your interest!
are these true color green or blueish?
It is really neither. It is muted, but the full spectrum of colors is there. It makes it very easy to see what you are working on. If you would like to get more of an idea of the view, we have a few videos on our IG that are a shot through the lens of an Optrel CLT lens.
@@rockmountwelding which ones
One has a cover image that says "Standard Welding Lenses VS Optrel's CLT Lenses" and there is another posted not too long afterwards that shows overhead welding through a CLT lens. There is also a short clip in our latest Tartan AAA video that we posted a few weeks ago.
I have some here just wondering is it ok to chew like gum in order to mix? Cause I tried now I have rapid steel teeth 😮
Super easy slag removal and fast freezing puddle … its perfect
Does the bead look ok if you just drag the rod, or is it best to use some rod manipulation?
@@Zerk_Ziegleryou can just drag it, looks beautiful
@@ZILAwelds Good to know, thanks!
One more question -- does this rod run best in cellulosic (6010, higher welding voltage) mode or is it ok to run it in regular (lower welding voltage) mode? Thanks in advance.
@@Zerk_Ziegler generally speaking Rockmount rods are designed to run on any welding machine. They don’t really have demanding requirements on the hardware. Those will run on the Lincoln tombstone Welder Personally, i run them in the regular program, not in any special cellulosic program
Tartan AAA works excellent in bad weather cuts down on prep time for stronger faster welds
Polaris a Polaris AAA and Polaris Max shield pro are awesome especially on heavy equipment
Fast and easy to use call your local rockmount rep for a demo
Crazy pricing. I went to look at the Brutus .035 wire. It was almost $171! That’s for a 2 pound roll. Sorry, but no.
Brutus is expensive but it is used on tool steel and other special applications. Polaris isn’t as expensive and is made for adverse conditions. Field repairs and the need for the repair to be stronger than the factory design.
I said the same thing until I tried some of their rods.
@@cew995 I get it. And if a company is paying for it, then fine. If a customer is paying for it, then fine. But if not, or if you’re doing something where it would be beneficial, but it’s for yourself, it’s a different story.
I 2nd that !!! It works
I am retired DIY doing random welding. "Can not see the puddle" is normal unless shade is so low my eyes begin to hurt. I am trying to find more details on the whole line of helmets, maybe I dont understand if the clear view is part of Every helmet option. I see the Ready all the way to Helix, well the Ready is more likely most relevant for my uses, but I would go up the line if it means I can actually see what the heck I am welding. Wonder if anyone can help me sort this out. thanks
We would be happy to answer any questions you may have! Shoot us an email at getintouch@rockmountwelding.com with your location and contact information. We'll have your local rep reach out to answer any questions and help you work out which helmet/lens combo would work best for you!
