Thanks for this review. Grendizer was part of my childhood so I will be getting this purely for the nostalgia. I'm honestly thankful they even made this game considering the true fan base is very small and aging. I collect physical releases of games so I will order the deluxe PS5 version from Japan which is much more reasonable than the collector's edition which is a ridiculous £208!! You're right, for what this game is, it's definitely not worth the MSRP -- it will definitely be on sale for much cheaper in the future. I think realistically though, this is the best we should expect from a Grendizer game since no studio will risk spending too much on this niche IP.

Correction. The people that watched Grandizer, as part of the Force 5 show featuring Getter Robo G, Gaiking, Wakusei Robo Danguard Ace, on the East Coast, are in their 50s. Even more of a let down for someone like me who has the DVDs of all of these late 70 early 80 super robots and DVDs I was looking forward to playing this. Will not pay full price for it though. If it's on sale for like $3 then I'll give it a go LOL

To point out UFO Grendizer came out in the 70s in Japan as it was a spin off of Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger. So those who know about such shows are in their 40s and 50s such as myself who is a fan of 70s and 80s mecha shows.

They should have made it a Super Robot Wars type game. I love the Super Robot Wars, where Goldrak is part of the team. As most Europeans, we care more about Goldrake than Mazinger 😅

And then they announced a new series that follows the new Mazinger reboot

I’m not too bothered since it’s still a budget licensed game. Seeing it through that lens, it is very impressive how much fun it can be. When it comes to anime mecha licensed games, the only ones I expect any form of deeper gameplay from are the Gundam games and Super Robot Wars. As the rest in that specific niche are usually half baked in comparison. This game is just better than what is normally offered.

Actually, the series was created in 1975, not 86 as you mention, ran through 1977 and 74 great episodes...😉
