I have more VHS than DVDs, and i still watch them. I refused to junk the VHS when the dvds came out because even then i thought onr day, they will release these again in another format or with extra extras, and i didn't want to get into that. I was tge same with my vinyl records collection. I never junked them to rebuy them on cds like a lot of people did. Some CDs i have which are quite old now refuse to play, whereas my vinyl lps are as good as ever. I cant remember the very first dvd i bought unfortunately. I font have many on dvd, perhaps 12?

I remember the first Dr Who VHS my dad got for me, Revenge of the Cybermen. Must have been around 1988/89 and that was the beginning of my VHS collection. Ended up selling it all on Ebay at the transition period to DVD. Never replaced them but have fantastic memories.

The reason why we have the Blu Ray box sets is that fans didn't have all have all of the dvds and the BBC were not reissuing the previous dvds so the BBC decided to bring all the season stories on one boxset in bluray instead of dvd. It's only the new who that are released on dvd theses days and not classic who. The BBC are missing a trick with not releasing a whole season of stories on DVD as well as Blu Ray. I personally believe that the consumer should be given a choice. Dvd or Blu Ray or even 4k. What does any fan of the show think about this ?

From Eccleston onwards you can get box sets of each Doctor's seasons... But not the classic Doctors; it's pretty annoying because I want to get into this franchise from the ground floor but not only are Classic Who's difficult to find but the ones you do are pretty pricey for a disc with a single episode. My brain can't justify it.

A bit late to this, but grrat video. I started getting the classic DVDs around 2006, but I've been pondering the box sets, but stuck with the single story releases as I already had so many. Really glad they are still being released. The big question though is what will happen now Disney is in control of distribution and is canning physical releases in many countries such as Australia?

Especially if you have a CRT to watch them on, might as well at least have some of your favorites to watch. File sizes aren’t too big when ripping to a computer.

My first was Brain of Morbius followed by Time Meddler around October/November 2008ish and when my birthday came in December and Christmas I would order a new batch. I remember before they arrived The Five Doctors special addition joined my collection.

Agreed dear sir, my collection is highly prized and hold cherished memories as such, I was lucky that I received 3 for my birthday in 2004; The Leisure Hive, The Five Doctors and the Lost in Time boxset. Having only seen very few stories before on satellite tv early mornings and late nights this was an absolute treasure trove of a deep dive, especially the Lost in Time boxset, I would say it’s one of my most prized possessions and a key reason why 1960s Dr Who is the absolute pinnacle of the shows history for me and why I’ve seen every (visually existing and including animations) episode from An Unearthly Child to The War Games what seems like 1000 times each at least and I will gladly watch another few thousand more! One of my biggest regrets however is trading in certain DVD’s on the crest of the wave of part exchanges and sales in entertainment shops and I’d often go with games or dvds with a little money too and trade things in for other things I wanted or was new out (more often than not brand new Dr Who DVD releases) and I had a limited edition Key To Time boxset from its original release which was limited to 10000 if I remember rightly as it opened up strangely but was a beauty! This was probably getting on for 15 years ago I got rid and barely a day goes by I don’t kick myself up the arse for it!

I would never part with my Doctor Who dvd collection.Theyve got two advantages over the bluray. One the cases are more durable than the UK cardboard Blu-ray cases and number 2 more importantly for me you can go straight to the story you want on your shelf without having to pick your way through a season boxset. Is the 60s,70s 80s picture that much superior on a Blu-ray against a dvd? Both have pros and cons of course.Love them both I guess.

My first one was Revelation of the Daleks or Earthshock, I got them both for my birthday sometime around 2006, I then got the Unearthly Child set for Xmas and was convinced that they would be in colour becuase we had a colour TV. My 9 year old self got laughed at pretty hard by the older memebers of my family for saying that!

I collected the VHS as a kid. When I joined the Royal Marines and was in training I bought a portable DVD player. Genesis of the Daleks was the first DVD I bought in a head dvd shop in Exeter on weekend leave. My collection grew from there. I remember they were sometimes so expensive. I had a case full of Doctor who DVDs that got me through 2 tours of Afghanistan. I remember coming of a pretty hairy night patrol and watching Genesis of the Daleks before falling asleep just as Sarah Jane fell off the rocket tower and watching the planet of evil lying on a cot bed in 50 degree heat. Lost a lot of the sleeves but have a decent collection saved up. My favourite artwork is the special edition Remembrance of the Daleks and one of my all time favourite story’s. The DVD were a big part of my life.

It was great when Brit box came out with all the classic Doctor who’s available. However I still keep my DVD collection stowed away just incase they stop episodes being available on the streaming service like other streaming services have done.

I still have my collection. Wouldn't part with it and certainly won't be buying the Blu-Rays as I don't have anything that plays them. Couldn't be bothered shelling out again. My first DVD was the original release of the Green Death which I gave to a friend when I got the special edition.

I enjoyed collecting the DVDs. Started with the original Five Doctors release in 1999. They eventually started to come out so often I struggled to keep up, but when they ended the regular releases in 2014 I caught up. Was so glad they did eventually release Underwater Menace. It seemed barmy that at one stage they seemed happy to end the range with one episode not included. I haven't got the Collection Blu Rays. Can't afford them. At least I have all the DVDs to enjoy.

Several of the BBC's recent re-releases (in region 1, at least) seem to have changed the DVD logo on the covers on their listings... Which is often a sign that companies have switched reprints to DVD-r. (cheaper, shorter life span DVDs) Unfortunate if the truth. Have you heard anything about this? (just speculation, but sad if true)

Started collecting Classic DVDs on Christmas Day 2016 (with The Beginning box set, The Tenth Planet and the newly Power of the Daleks at the time) and still going on to this date and I'm far from finishing haha ! In parallel, I'm collecting the Blu-ray box sets that I have been able to catch up (except season 10 14 18 and 19, I'll buy the standard edition for them). Excited for season 22 to come up ^^ (Also because I'm French, I must buy them on Amazon so that's why it's taking a long time. The only ones I bought in London when I was on a school trip were the Beneath the Surface box set and Remembrance of the Daleks)

I can say for 60s Who right now, it is worth buying the DVDs. For 70s and 80s Who, not so much. However, there are some extras on the DVDs that didn't get ported to the Bluray Collection Boxsets. For example, one of the ones I can think of (I'M STILL PISSED ABOUT THIS BTW), is that the Season 26 Collection did NOT contain the Episode "Search Out Space" 😠😠😠

Like the cover art of the Doctor Who UK DVD’s and the inserts. The big problem where can i buy amaray dvd silver double cases. Get now transparant dvd cases. Have the Blu ray The Collectiion Limited Edition sets. But there is always something wrong with it. Wrong blu rays prints, cracks on the plastic discs trays and damage on the outside carton box.

The individual classic DVDs will always be my ultimate choice. I only recently completed my collection (it also took me around 10 years) and never really cared enough for the blu-ray boxsets because of price. Essentially if you bought every individual release (where there are around 130, 140 including the animations) at an average price of £6-10, the whole collection would cost around £800-1000, that is if you bought every release brand new. Re-collecting every classic who season at £40 would cost you the same amount, and that is if you manage to get the boxsets at all before scalpers get at 'em. So personally I have no interest in getting the blu-ray boxsets, just seems like a lot of trouble to collect them all over again, no matter how good they look. (Also my first classic Who DVD was Dalek Invasion of Earth)

I was a good two-thirds or three-quarters into finishing my DVD collection when they started rolling out The Blu-Ray Collection so you can imagine how enthused I was. I just bought most of the stories, now start buying them again? Sadly that meant I had to pass on The Collection. I know most people had either finished their collection by then or were missing most of the DVDs, so the Blu-Rays were a better opportunity for them.

My only issue to address for people trying to collect the DVDs they need to be careful. BBC has now licensed official DVD-R re-releases that they are selling legally on Amazon and other retailers so if you want the older ones make sure it's the classic DVD logo in corner not the plain DVD text.

there wont be box sets for seasons 1-6 until someone finds or rerecords the 17 missing or incomplete stories from first and second, season 2 is ALMOST complete, all that is missing is Marco Polo, unfortunately that was one of the ones that there is no episodes in tact only pictures (unless someone who has the film gives it back!!!)
