Personally I hope they do start taxing expats... a few things I would love to see happen, 1st is retirement visas not only you have to show the 800k in the bank but you have to show the funds have been in the account for a MIN of 6 months prior to renewal or application. this would remove it is estimated 35% of broke retiree's that are using dodgy agents, also any retiree found to have done this should also be banned for 10 years

Absolutely. On the other hand if they make it too expensive and too much of a hassle, we will start going elsewhere. The reason I never visited Russia was the cost and more importantly the hassle of getting a visa when there are other countries in the area that were much easier to travel to.

Actually they -the tax office or whoever is responsible, can contact me if they want me to pay tax. Then they can explain why I should pay tax when I get nothing for it! People seems to be so wined up regarding this. Just wait and see, nothing is confirmed as far as I know.

@susanzimmerli5178 I'm not residents in Thailand since I don't have a residents visa! Non-O is not an residents visa and I have to apply every year! So why should I pay tax when I'm not considered an residents?! I paid tax in Sweden, I get free healthcare, can work, get pension etc Why should I pay tax when I get nothing in return for it?! They want me to pay tax they give me pension, health care as Thai citizens, and allow me to vote etc. Ah maybe not vote that should be citizens, but other stuff -pension for sure they should give if I gonna pay tax.

@susanzimmerli5178 As I understand most countries in Europe you get pension if you pay tax there. Usually you work in that country also but still, you are in the system and you get pension and other things similar to citizens when you pay tax.

And I would have to pay tax on my pension there as well. Here I pay a quarter of healthcare insurance than in my home country. Its called „tax resident“ even if you are on a non-immi visa with one year extension, as soon as you live here >180 days you are considered „tax resident“ like in any other country as well.

@@mr.bullion6786 The only change is the interpretation of the rule around bringing in Income from previous tax years, prior to 1/1/24 you could bring income from previous years & it wouldn't be assessable, going forward any income earned after 1/1/24 is (potentially) assessable (if remitted to Thailand). Fact is all the other rules (Tax on Income from Dividends, Pensions, Capital Gains, Rental properties etc...) haven't changed and are something that we all probably should have understood better even before this change. I'll be the 1st to admit that in previous years I might have remitted Dividend/Rental income in the same calendar year it was earned as I simply hadn't given any thoughts to how Tax works in Thailand, since this change was announced I've spent a lot of time researching the rules & so understand them to the point where I can confidently file a Tax Return (I already have a TIN having filed a return to reclaim Withheld Tax on interest in 2022).

Your me, UA-cam is a great and the only source of information about Thai tax matters, because I don't read newspapers like Bangkok Post. Without UA-cam, I wouldn't know out the recent changed in taxation and the considerations to amend the taxation of expats again. The same regarding immigration issues. Unfortunately, there is no official information medium for expats in Thailand. UA-cam also alliws me to capture the various aspects of a topic, pros and cons, etc so I can challenge my tax advisoe or my agent. But of course UA-cam cannot be my tax advisor itself. Here I count on a local professional.

It's about building power blocks and drawing nations into choosing sides. It leads to polarisation. Thailand needs to focus on being free, letting people do what they need to and that includes most foreigners that wild line to come live there, invest spend money. In saying that, I have noticed that more and more road signs in chiangrai have Chinese on them. Before it was just Thai and English. I wonder what that means? I would be very wary of China. I'm in Australia and foreign influence and wanting to fall in line is destroying things here and making life very difficult and every every expensive. Bureaucrats rule the roost and most people don't understand that always pointing the finger at politicians.

Thanks for this info --- just to clarify, as a Canadian retiree (50+ age) does this mean that if I have an income from Canadian listed stocks greater than 65,000 Baht/month, that I don't need to deposit any funds to a Thai bank account to either obtain (or extend) an OA or O Visa --- that I can instead get verification from the Canadian Consulate to show that I satisfy the financial requirements? This would remove so much planning/stress as I have no pension or gov't income to look forward to for many years still and likely won't get much when I do turn 65. Many Thanks!...from North Vancouver

The use of nominees particularly for real estate is very widespread here in Chiang Mai, and I speculate in many other cities where a lot of foreigners live )Phuket, Samui, etc.). I don’t expect this to change unless the Thai government wants to take this issue seriously. Complicit in these activities are builders/developers, real estate agents and lawyers. Given the amount of serious serious money involved in these activities, I doubt anything will be done about it. TIT.

The OECD offers Thailand and Indonesia nothing, other than a loss of sovereignty. There is no evidence membership promotes investment, which is how it is being promoted. The OECD tax harmonization for one thing is likely to cause damage to Thailand, as it has the potential to destroy Thailands long term tourism sector. Only gullible officials would think that OECD membership offered anything tangible. Singapore refuses to join the OECD sighting potential loss of sovereignty and Malaysia has taken a huge step back from membership after coming to its senses. Malaysia has now extended its tax exemption on foreign income to 2036, and has given up on OECD membership. As for OECD member helping with the EU FTA, it’s totally unrelated. Australia an established OECD member walked away from the EU FTA, when they saw what one sided deal it was. The fact they were an OECD member did not help. Thailand should carefully consider the benefit of OECD membership. Where there is a need for major policy changes to qualify for membership, put it to the Thai people at the election. I am sure no Thai in their right mind would vote for tax harmonization and other crazy western measures in exchange for the possibility of maybe, a slight increase in foreign investments at some point in the future. Terrible trade off.

Dude you're ignorant and living in the past. Welcome to the new multipolar World, BRICS+ is the future! If any ASEAN nation wishes to remove the U.S. boot from their neck, prosper and look forward to the future than their only alternative is to make peace and an alignment with BRICS+.

Thank you for your bravery! I will use your services soon, very few persons people are willing to say something about WEF and what’s really happening . I love the US, lived here for over 28 years, but so many things are happening in the last few years , I’m preparing myself to retire early .. sadly Thailand was my goal, and now , it’s hard to understand where this is going . Hopefully Trump will be able to take charge ( regardless of compromising DS figures being picked) before WW3 starts , which is all part of their game “ all or nothing “ . With US getting back, we might see a positive reaction of resistance globally , still, the globalist bank system might be slowed down, but strong measures will have to be taken in order to prevent a total takeover . I truly hope Thailand won’t become another UK.

It's all about your money they coming after and make you a slave from that anti democratic system. If there is no shame and respect anymore for the people you have a dictatorship, that's exactly what the west is right now.

I almost feel like Thailand wants expats to leave. The remittance tax for one and the proposed application of a global tax - these are expat deterrents. Makes cost of living here significantly higher and increases financial risk with staying here. It's a wealth depletion risk. Lots of expats deemed tax residents (> 180 days here) are talking of leaving and many have reduced spending and not investing. Thailand wants to go straight to a first world fully taxed society without any incentives, rather significantly reducing our 'after tax' exchange rate. Tax significantly increases cost of living here. Who is pulling Thailand's strings? What is the real need and benefit to Thailand for all of these sudden changes and/or proposed changes? Who are the think tanks?
