Just wanted to drop in and say that I feel the exact same thing about anki 😭(only difference my target lang is japanese)

I get that, I chose one single podcast to listen to this week and I'll be making flashcards based on the vocab, sentences and sentence patterns that I'd find in that podcast, I think in that way I'll be learning vocab in context.

@@yuenatv I cannot tell you HOW MANY TIMES I have cleared a whole deck of anki cards and then I will encounter a situation where I can FINALLY use it and then my brain is just crickets... Or the number of times I've left a situation having no idea what someone said and then I'll be on Anki 2 days later and be like... oh... Great... 😭😭

I FEEL THAT - it’s tough but maybe you can learn them using two different formats? one from textbooks, another from movies, anime, podcasts etc? or you could do 1 month chinese, one month japanese and alternate? u got this!

hey julie!! welcome welcome～i agree, duolingo prioritises european languages (they r even doing ai calls in spanish wtf?!?) and the other apps are either paid or kinda boring ngl! which apps/ resources do you like to use for chinese?

​@@yuenatv Oh yeah duolingo is especially bad for non-European languages :( Makes you do repetition for the weirdest phrases LOL I use Du Chinese for reading practice and Ka Tones for tone practice! So far, I've found those to be useful so I've kept using them.
