May I join the shibasquad when I get a vr head set?
Hello, I don't find the stats on internet about this FPU / 3D chip. What is the number of floating point operations per second ? FLOPS ? Thanks for your help !
So smooth. Would love a rerelease on cart with this (or an even faster processor, given the cheap price these days.)
The lastest Version is EX 1.11 which contains another little performance boost by a "Super FX fast multiplication mode" The Discord invite in the description is still online :) So you can download the newest version and play it via a SD > SNES adapter on your console :D
I wonder where did you change The Textures Of The Characters Intercom
It seems to mess up timings / speed, so practically this is of limited use
It's actually a 10.7mhz (original StarFox speed) vs 21.4mhz (actual SFX chip speed) SuperFX comparison
Idk why but, this music looks like After Burner... 🤔🤔😯😯
After Burner came out '87, StarFox 5 years later Maybe they liked it and copied a bit of it
It's fast.
Is this hardware compatible? If I had this rom patched, would this run on a FX Pak Pro/SD2SNES Pro?
Yes ! StarFox: EX is hardware compatible Check you our Discord !
This ruins StarFox. The speed at which the game originally runs is how it was meant and intended to be played. This really doesn't have any better effect than just speeding the game up X2. Moreover, it just makes the game more frustrating to play and makes the obstacles and gameplay too fast to react properly to. So actually this is just both pointless and makes the game worse. I can play Super Mario World at two times speed at a higher frame rate too, doesn't make it better.
Receeating the game in a new engine would be better.
Vortex need a second chance with SFX II
At least the SFX chip at full speed
It’s the boys ❤
Yes !
How is it possible that this so much more impressive than Superman 64.
one is good, the other is bad
Good question 😄
As a kid starfox blew my mind just from reading about it! Long story short i read in a magazine japanese inventors had came up with a console boosting chip that could make a game machine run 100 times faster than normal, possibly more! To put that into perspective for the younger generation this is like going from Wolf 3D to Serious Sam II!
Close! But the Super FX chip was invented by engineers at British "Argonaut Games" as the "Mario FX Chip" initially. Argonaut then co-developed Star Fox for Nintendo, and later on the Super FX chip went on to be used in a handful of other 3rd party software! 😄😄😄 Fascinating story there, especially with how crazy young a couple of those engineers were at the time.
Good old days
True 😁
That not the fx 2 that just the final fx
Yes... Starfox had the GPU register on that enabled the clock divider, knocking it down to 10.7Mhz, so the "superfx2" is actually wrong. It's actually a 10.7mhz vs 21.4mhz SuperFX comparison.
From my understanding the FX2 chip actually didn't run any faster or better than the FX1 chip, it's only advantage was that it could address a larger ROM than the FX1 chip could (8Mbit vs 16Mbit). Both the FX1(Called the GSU-1) and the FX2(Called GSU-2) ran at the same clock speed of 21MHz. The reason many assumed it did, other than it's name, is because many early attempts at creating a Star Fox 2 physical cartridge used a Star Fox 1 cart as the donor and doing this resulted in a Star Fox 2 game that ran much slower than it should. Problem is, unlike just about every other FX-based game, Star Fox used an earlier version of the FX chip (Called the Mario Chip) that ran at HALF the speed, only 10.5MHz. Since the Star Fox 2 ROM is not larger than 8Mbit, it doesn't need the FX2 chip and can run perfectly fine on a FX1 chip. People have since started using other FX1 chip based-games such as Stunt Trax or Dirt Trax to make Star Fox 2 carts and those run at full speed. So basically, this is more a video showing Mario Chip vs FX2, Star Fox 1 would run at the same speed if you had a FX1 or FX2 chip in it, just as long as it's not the half-speed variant Mario Chip.
That is accurate... however, Starfox had the GPU register on that enabled the clock divider, knocking it down to 10.7Mhz, so the "superfx2" is actually wrong. It's actually a 10.7mhz vs 21.4mhz SuperFX comparison.
My first ever game on my first ever console. Talk about memories 😂
True <3
Would have been tight if we got the SNES CD with FX2 and 2meg ram built in back in the day. That port of Killer Instinct would have been amazing.
Absolutley ! :D
I was psyched about the SNES CD. That would have done all and more than we could imagined at the time. At least we can dream.
@@briannolan6328 Would have failed miserably like basically every addon. Sega CD, 32X, 64DD.
Looks like it's moving too fast honestly, and would be harder to play.
I'm actually unsure how StarFox was ment to be played so they halfed the speed of the SFX chip
The super fx 2 is very similar to fx 1 but the fx 2 is a bit faster.
Actually SFX2 is SFX running at full speed
@CooLK1992 ya maybe u right.
so, this means no FF when compensating for drop on frames?
10.5 MHz vs 21 MHz. For the first Star Fox, though, the second chip is just overclocking the game...
It's actually playing Star Fox on it's original speed...
It's the same...🤨
It's the same game yes... but with unlocking the full potential* of the MARIO aka. Super FX Chip, the game runs smoother. Star Fox runs at 50% (10,7 MHz) but the MARIO was capable of 21,4 MHz
just imagine what kind of things nintendo could archived with that chip, it{s so sad that was a expensive technology at the time and was realeased at the end of the console's life span
Yeah... but time moves on. Would be awesome if they did back in time.
Pues tuvieron 4 años más ya que la consola su último juego fue en 1998 en occidente y 2000 en oriente solo que ya estaban enfocados en otras consolas

@@IntegerOfDoomTry Cyberpunk 2077 with the DLC, its a great game
Is there a difference between the SFX2 chip hack and the SA-1 FastROM hack?
"there is no SA-1 FastROM hack. SFX2 chip boosts the game ~50% faster and Fastrom adds an additional ~1%"
@@CooLK1992 what is this then? ua-cam.com/video/y6RoiwXd4R8/v-deo.html
@@retromister81 This is when the Mario Chip runs at full speed (21,4 Mhz instead of 10,7) + FastROM option
@@CooLK1992 but you said there is no fastrom hack? And this is a fastrom hack. So what now?
@Flavio you can enhance StarFox by let be Mario Chip run at full speed and/or add FastROM
I remember monkeying around with these settings in Retroarch. Isn't the game speed just sped up? If one can make the video on the left with an additional 30-40 frames, then we have something revolutionary. For now though, videos like these ua-cam.com/video/PZTPnDOKaP0/v-deo.html&lc=Ugx3teVxnFo0k8_-lFN4AaABAg.9h8N2XtK2k29itwOKWA5Zv&ab_channel=LetsBash are the only way we can see the original game running at 60fps.
The Mario Chip is running at 10,7 Mhz (SuperFX). We let the chip run at its full speed of 21,4 Mhz (SuperFX 2) It would be awesome to have a true 60fps mod for it.
Nice try, right video is just a sped up version of the left one
Well... sadly it's true. It's the same video but the SFX part is running at the original MARIO chip with 10,7 Mhz and the SFX2 part is running at full speed with 21,4 Mhz
Always loved Stunt race FX - but always hated its framerate... would be cool to see this implemented in other Super FX games!
I'm not sure if there was the source code of Stunt Race FX in the giga leak
oh god yeah. Love that game but it's gotta have the lowest frame rate on the entire SNES library
Star fox/star wing was the only game to use the lower clocked superfx chip, all the other games used the faster clocked super fx ii
@@CooLK1992 Sorry, what? Gigaleak?

Im surprised Macbeth appears in the background of Space Armada, did they reused Sector Z background in that stage?
Yes, they did. Even in the original game Space Armada and Sector Z got the same background !
Man, that is some buttery smooth animation on the FX2!
In combination with FastROM StarFox does even run smooth on the original hardware
2.1ghz?
What do you mean with 2.1 GHz? The SFX2 was running at 21,4 Mhz
does doom use super fx?
Doom uses SFX2
Is there a version of this for Star Fox 2?

Too fast
It's the way it should be played... While the development of SF they played in on Full Speed SFX chip... later they halved the Mhz.

I thought it was funny how Dancing Insector (the Battle Base Meteor boss) lost all of his legs at once. 😆
That looks interesting, how do you run it in Retroarch?
Cause I was wondering if you could run starfox exploration showcase with this.
In Retroarch there's a SNES9X core so I don't see any problems.
@@CooLK1992 but is it possible to run it simulteanously with starfox exploration showcase?
Answer from the master himself: "Answer is yes, it is in the current beta builds under development"

I believe Vitor Vilela the hacker is trying to overclock the FX chip to 27 Mhz and maybe optimize some of the code for one of this next projects.
I do have now a Super FX cartridge at 27 MHz. But I don't know if Star Fox can benefit from it yet. - Vitor
