The Yellow Bear - Rear cross-member Chop pt2 - How to - Lada Niva Tuning tow bar

In this video we continue the rear cross member reduction on the yellow bear. Including a built in tow bar solution. if you are doing this conversion there is no reason why you can't just put sheet onto the bottom of the cross member instead of box section, I just wanted the tow bar. This conversion alters the structure of the vehicle and I highly recommend the installation of a roll cage to go...

How's that going so far? Looking at some of the garages from this provider and wonder if they are sturdy enough to last a few years. Cheers!
I have a double cab in the same colour. It needs the pickup bed removed and tidied up as well and like yours the only rot is at the back bottom of the cab. I will get stuck in soon 😬
No way
Hi, would this cause vibration pulling off in first gear?
When are you going to have some better cameras you spoke about
The sheets you used for the building were they plastisol coated or something else
There’s a button below the lever next to the rack who was moving to explain about the stuck rack, This button is excess fuel button and when you push it in it will make it easier for starting, the button will automatically pop out when engine fires.
Simms minimec were fitted to all ford 5000 tractors for their injection pump and is bullet proof were reliability is second to none.
Good luck with the project and greets from Russia! Btw nivas had diesel 1.9 (Ford or Peugeot)
Hi, great video. I´m thinking to buy same garaje, I´m afraid a bit due wind max speed supported is 65km/h (seems very low). One question, is it possible to install 2 motors to the roller doors? Thanks
Hi, I live on the top of a big hill and the wind here is incredible, we've just had a week straight of some serious wind and the shed has stood up to it, I have some obs panelling in it though which will of course reinforce the structure. There is about 6" of shaft sticking out of the end of the rollers so I can't see it being too difficult to modify the doors to electric 👍
I love the T1 chasis cab wowww
Hi mate, just wondering what your thoughts were about the welder after a few months of use? Interesting videos, brill 👍
Hi Steve, tbh I haven't used it all that much as been building workshop, will definitely be getting used more soon though. I've recently made some toolbox brackets for the side of a truck with them and it was great for that, and all my body work jobs have been good as well, for body work I tend to ignore the synergic side and just run hot tacks like you normally would with a standard welder. Overall I'm very happy, haven't used it for tig yet but I will be once I've built my workbench (which I will be using this welder for). I went for a 150 amp torch but if I was to purchase again I think I'd go for a 250 amp torch as its surprised me how much I use the higher amps
hi mate, thanks for the reply, that looks a cracking welder, it was the inverter fusion pulse mig that got me interested in a welder upgrade but very tempted by the bolher now,..or maybe jasic? cracking new workshop too! @@MetalByBrian
One of the best explanations on UA-cam👍👍👍
Thank you! 🤙
Thanks, very easy
Glad it helped 🤙
Well, I reckon that’s not the worst haircut you’ve ever had but it’s up there!🤣🤦♂. I have many ways of storing stuff but my favourite seems to be the floor followed by stacking it high 😆🤦♂
That's what I'm trying to avoid but it's catching up on me!
Sorry about the audio issues, for soen reason the music and my voice are overlapping, id reuppload but that probably would sort the problem
Great vlog Brian 👍🏻at least I know where to come if I need a nut and bolt now 🤪😂👊🏻👍🏻
Nuts innit bud 😅
Great vlog Brian 👍🏻 sounds good what your doing 👊🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Cheers Mark, gonna be weird fitting a lift kit, but this old girl deserves a retirement, and I need to remember it's going for scene points rather than trial points 😄
Hi Brian, great video's, my husband has got two 1997 1.7i Nivas which he intends to renovate/restore, where is the best source for spare parts including body panels ? Bearing in mind the trade sanctions placed on Russia, when he rebuilt the engine a couple of years ago he had parts from lada power but not sure what the availability is now, any ideas ? Thanks keep up the great work 👍.
Tbh lada power is your best bet, they're still active, going strong and keeping up their good customer service. I am looking to start my own shop for lada parts in the future, but that's after I've saved some money from my business selling custom kits etc
If you aren't already, feel free you join lada niva uk on Facebook, would love to see pictures of your restoration 👌
Great video. One of mine has raptor paint on it and it’s god forsaken stuff. Took a day to get it off one wing…..
Yeah, I was always sceptical of it but I decided I needed to try it before I knocked it, and now I've tried it, I'm regretting it 😂
Unfortunately, the mop was retrieved from the workshop later the same day, you can't win them all
😂
Yes I can confirm you are a blithering idiot 😆 I blame your farther mate 😳🫣. Can really knock Dancover to be fair, sounds like they have done all they could considering
So far they've been great, there's some negative reviews online, but I think that's people who've paid daewoo money expecting Rolls Royce rewards 😄
Great vlog Top Banana 👍🏻 you look after yourself and keep the jam in your Dougnuts 🤪👊🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The Jam left this donut a long time ago! 🤪🤙
Knacked my spine at 16 jumping over a hedge, at 18 had a lad crash into me at a motocross track which ref@#ked my back, every few years it haunts me, last time I dropped my bank card it bounced under my car and I ended up laid there for about 15 minutes on the floor 😂 so I totally feel sorry for you when you're trying to roll over in bed to sleep and it takes 20 minutes lol, good choice painting the floor I said I was going to leave mine bare but the dust was insane so painted it and its100% better.... well apart from a burnout I did just before I fitted a new tyre on the bike, it's looking good though buddy and a gateway to been your own boss 👌👍
I get my long back from my family, I'm used to feeling little twinges, but this time was different 😂 fortunately I haven't had any long-lasting back issues, so feel for you there. As soon as the first coat of paint was on the difference ewas amazing, just the ability to have a mop slide over has made a huge difference
@MetalByBrian yeah it's lucky you chose to paint it or you would of ended up dragging everything back out and then sorting it like I ended up doing. My mother always said I enjoyed learning the hard way lol
@DavesInHisGarage bit worried i may still end up doing that after it all flakes up 😂
@MetalByBrian cheap stuff and I used one tin for a 7x5.5m pad and turned out really nice, just enough left for doing touch-ups if I ever get round to doing it, but welding etc still marks it but much nicer than concrete 👍
Wish I'd spent more time just trowlong mine, where I troweled it applied much better than where I didn't
Nicely done so far :) are you planning on soundproofing the "shed" at all?
Definitely, soundproofing is going to be a rolling project I think, as and when the finances become available. Unfortunately, spray foam insulation looks to be about 1k for a shop this size, so I'm looking at alternatives
See that’s what happens when you get a soft job for a few years and have to some manual after!🤣🤦♂. Shed coming on well, should fit my new project in nicely 😁
Must admit I did think the same myself, but I have been working on my own projects whilst teaching so I haven't gone all out soft 😄 what on earth is your new project 🫨
What a Top Banana job 👍🏻looks brilliant well done both of you 👊🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Cheers Mark, it's gone very well and great when you have someone willing to get stuck in with you 👍
Think the neighbours just want you to hide the projects 🤪. It’s gone up better than I thought it would, was expecting a problem somewhere 🤷♂
It went very well, 100% the neighbours are just sick of looking at scrap 😂
Great Work Brian - Good to see you back on youtube and uploading so often
Cheers Kyle, Hoping to keep it up, was the concrete that slowed me down 🤙
Rekindling my post-traumatic stress disorder from building my metal garage, glad you got it sorted buddy, and yeah 3k is stupid cheap but this is exactly what you need to get yourself sorted 👍👌
How's thing going Dave? Tbf although there were some stressful points it's wasn't too bad to install the garage, just took forever 😄
@MetalByBrian onwards and upwards, as they say, well worth the wait to set you up pursuing what you love and enjoy
Concrete was the worst part, only bit I wanted outside help for and setting it up was hard work
@MetalByBrian should of give us a shout. I did my 7x5.5m pad for mine and I agree it's hard graft, I had to dig deep footings around 450mm by about a foot and a half, the main floor if the pad is around 6/8inch thick, the ground in Middleton freezes like you've never seen in your life lol
Unbelievable I cannot believe you’re reading the instructions 🤪😂 looking good Brian you lost me with the maths 😂👊🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I know, but this went beyond your average ikea furniture 😄 3,4,5 is the easiest way, multiply them all by the same number and you'll get a right angle, so if the shortest length is 6, and the adjacent is 8, (the angle between those two must be 90 degrees) then the opposite is going to be 10
Can’t believe how spawny you are that the frame fitted the concrete, I’d have made it bigger🤣. Can’t wait to see it up now 😁
Haha, I trusted a drawing and it paid off 😄 must admit I was worried though 🤪
Good on you mate, go for it. Did a similar thing this year and turned my own motorsport engineering antics into a business. I'm still not sure how I feel about it haha.
Thanks Alex. I was in business with my dad a few years back, it has its pros and cons, I like being my own boss though, your stress is your own stress when you're your own boss
Goodluck to you fella 👍 My friend did a truck for winch challenge guy.. guys with lots of money for their toys.. you need some of those jobs👍👍👍
Cheers Paul, that would be nice if I can find someone who is willing to invest that in me 😀
If the neighbours didn’t love you before, they will with the new garage 🤪. Are you allowing land rovers on your drive then?😁. I wish you luck mate, you know where I am if you need out 👍
Think they're happier looking at the garage than the scrap yard 😄 And land rovers are allowed on the drive as long as they'll start so they can get back off the drive 😄
Great video 👍🏻 very interesting Good luck 👊🏻👍🏻
Cheers Mark 🤙
Hi Brian - AWESOME NEWS. Best of luck for the new endeavour! Might be worth developing a new rhd niva steering box. Just bought another rhd Niva myself :)
Thanks Kyle, I have plans for a steering box, hardest part is the worm gears inside
@@MetalByBrian no worries mate. The steering box shouldn’t be a problem for a man of your calibre
Got to go you doing good
Yeah bud tip top, busy with life, hope all good with you

Yes that's correct
Just saw your car on motorway:D
That will have been one I'd just sold, had to sell it to make space for the workshop I'm building 😀
Incredible work men, congrats! I stay here for see that Niva progress 🤟
Thank you! I've been busy lately, but I promise to start uploading videos again soon 👍
Precision backyard engineering, job's a good'n
Tip top!
Great job that buddy, always nice to weld some decent metal and not some rusty 20+ year old terrible metal panel, my neighbours will think I'm having a rave with the flashing of that arc through the TV with no light on lol, great video 👍
Yeah, I'm looking forward to making the cage, can do some nice welds then 👍 haven't had chance to touch it since this though
This is a niva she will never get stuck😁😂
Bet I can get it stuck 🤪
Nice! Very fun to follow this project.
Thank you!
Loved it, can't wait to get a welder and get started on that rusty Karmann Ghia
Get it done! 💪 👍
