Picking Up my 1959 Chevy Apache 3600, 3/4 Ton with 283 V8
Переглядів 1,2 тис.7 років тому
Bringing home and preparing to bring to life 1959 Chevrolet Apache (Taskforce 2nd series). Completely amateur work, so feel free to add suggestions. Hopefully this will help anyone having similar project plans. Apache 3600 is 3/4 ton truck, and even though it looks a lot like 3100, many parts are not interchangeable with popular and lighter 3100.

    After watching the video and reading the reviews, almost everyone including the video maker didn't apply the forged hammered paint correctly. Everyone apllied it too lightly or reported the same, then complained it didn't look line the can handle. It has to be applied extremely heavy. I had great results with it. Lots of black strings in it. You have to really shake the can thoroughly before spraying and also seconds before spraying passes.

    With the universal you have to spray it on heavy and in one coat to achieve the forged hammered look. Classic case of user error.

    Yea I tried this new easy grip trigger sprayer in hammered. Idk if it’s the hammer effect or the sprayer design but it seemed to be both. Mine was for a fiberboard desk top. It was streaky uneven and kept dripping even with constant shaking and wiping off after each pass. I had no trouble with regular old nozzle and paint that adheres to plastic that wasn’t this hammered finish so until I test the regular paint with this new trigger I’m not positive but my years of experience using spray paint says it’s both. Such a pain! Yours did better than mine though. May be because it was on metal but that shouldn’t matter.Thanks for sharing so I know it wasn’t just me😋

    Universal is primer and paint in one. But it also means you get half the paint, cause the inside is split half and half into one paint chamber, and one primer chamber. The cheaper one’s more paint but the result is more hammered-looking than universal’s.

    It’s important to know that the spraying process is different than most other spray paints. The hammered spray paints should be applied in one very heavy coat and left to separate and dry to get the hammered effect.

    • @steadyeddie7453
      @steadyeddie7453 4 роки тому

      Good to know. The quart versions can be applied with a heavy coat for sure. The viscosity is considerably higher though I have never measured it. But the rattle can version is a much lower viscosity, I assume in order to produce a good spray pattern. A very heavy coat on a vertical surface is a recipe for runs. Personally, I think Rustoleum should get rid of their hammered sprays, and stick to the quart versions. The quarts perform much better, and you can put it on with a disposable chip brush or foam brush and it will still level and give a good hammered finish. Thanks for the tip.

    I did 2 coats on my truck bumper will do one more tomorrow.I have used this stuff before and you dont really get a hammered finish unless you go really heavy then you get runs. I mainly bought it for the durability and I got the more expensive stuff with built in primer. Easy coverage and no runs. Also the more expensive stuff adheres to plastic well. Black is more of a charcoal color but that's ok. If you ever need to sand this stuff off good luck. It almost has a ceramic coating property. Excellent for a truck bumper looks awesome and I don't really care if it looks hammered it does have a texture and hides scratches very well

    I'm with the guy who said it looks fake, or at least not a "hammered" effect. I've taken to actually hammering out dimples in whatever I'm wanting that way. But in other cases the hammered paint has a uniqueness to it that in order to match, no amount of actual hammering is going to result in that look.

  • @BengtRosini13
    @BengtRosini13 4 роки тому

    That can with no propellent can still be used. You can puncture it and then cut into it and brush paint with the leftover paint. I think you can also charge the can with pressure and be able to use the rest of that color.

    Thanks for this. I'm going to build a very large 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea Nautilus sub. Resin. Lots of guys do a rust treatment. (real rust) over a metal primer, then excess rust that forms is brushed off, sealed. Some verdigris pastel added for that green copper penny look. But the resin is very flat around the dozens of rivets. I think a hammered dark bronze as a primer would be a great start.
