A straight forward common sense golf instruction channel designed to help every player. Todd is a Class A PGA professional, a Certified Malaska Coach , a Callaway Staff Professional as well as a Flightscope and Rhapsodo ambassador.
He has taught all over the world with some Legendary coaches mentoring him. His biggest mentor is legendary coach Mike Malaska. They have similar styles, a similar background and Mike has taken him under his wing. His coaching is based around kinesiology, biomechanics, common sense and physics. His style is laid back and you will enjoy following him and interacting with him as your coach.
He currently carries a +2.4 handicap, was as low as a +4.4 before my game was taken away to a poor concept. It took years and years to get my game back in a weird twist of fate, it came back during the first lesson I gave.

So are we to hold the release- or push on the back of the shaft ?
Since removing half my clubs this year, it forces you to get a much better feel for swing positions exactly like this.
@@stevecox8066 that is great to hear! Are your scores improving.
@toddheugly a touch. But I'm hitting greens more often and hitting wedges so so so much better. Well, the one wedge I carry hahaha
Nice and simple
Hello, question about the takeaway. Do you take the club back with arms and shoulders independent of hips, or do you let the right hip swivel around you while arms and hands are taking back the club? Thanks
@@ST-xg3gy my takeaway sequence starts with my wrists moving the clubhead first then the arms and by then the club is parallel to the ground and my hips and shoulders start to organically turn and get out of the way.
The feet together drill is one of my favorites. Every time I go to the range I usually start off doing this.
Made too look so easy , why is golf so hard 😭
@@moonface978 golf is a fickle game and once you have your aha moment you will improve.
The impact bag is a great tool. I try to hit mine every day.
Another good video- appreciate the info & explanation- need to put them to use- thanks
good to see you out and about coach ... congratulations on the launch of your new website
Todd do you swing analysis from videos sent to you?
@@abs828 I sure do
Well done. I am flipping all my shot but that produces good results. Do you have tips for the shaft lean vs scooping ? Thanks
Thank you. I’d be interested to see your swing from face on to see if you are scooping or early releasing. Flipping and scooping are two different things that coaches have screwed up the terminology. Flipping is trying to close the clubhead rapidly right at impact. Do you have video of your swing?
I'm looking forward to it.
Congratulations- well done - we will be following you-
Great video. Question Do you feel that your right hand is more dominant in the takeaway and down swing?
@@bruceroberts3471 thank you and yes I do. Each golfer feels something different.
I learned that drill from an instructor a couple of years ago after years of playing either with no teacher or from a system I won’t name but which took a lot of money with no benefit. I’ve picked and chosen concepts and drills since then that resonate with your principles. I’m a better player for it.
@@golfdoc1950 I’m glad my philosophy has helped you and simplicity is making you a better player.
More really good info - appreciate your videos- keep them coming
never seen you talk about ball position. Thanks for the drill!
@@pipebliss that’s what my website is for sheesh 😁you guys want so much from me. Have you heard of the 4-ball approach?
@@toddheugly no worries, I will see if I can find anything on the 4-ball approach, cheers and thankyou!
TODD, MIKE TALKS ABOUT PUSHING BACK ON THE WAY DOWN. DO YOU DO THAT? I PUSH BACK ON THE TAKE AWAY. SHOULD I DO BOTH?
TODD, MIKE TALKS ABOUT PUSHING BACK ON THE WAY DOWN. I EITHER AM DOING IT WRONG OR CANT DO IT AT ALL. I DO PUSH BACK ON THE TAKE AWAY. DOES THAT MATTER OR SHOULD I TRY TO DO BOTH?
As long as you are moving into the ball with way is fine.
@@toddheugly todd thanks for the quick reply. am i reading this incorrectly? are you saying i should be moving into the ball?
thx
@@toddheugly Todd you have been a great help to me. i left you a question on your web site as to purchase options. when you have time i would like your recommendation. anxious to get going.
Todd, your simplification of the golf swing is much appreciated. Just one question: what is the bump supposed to do?
@@jhannides lotta players don’t stay on that trail foot. They actually are transferring force towards the leadfoot which is a good thing for the major majority of golfers. But if it’s something you already do then you can have that slight bump or not.
@ Got it. Thanks.
Happy Thanksgiving Coach Todd!
Love this video
Thank you Todd!
Todd do you consider this release a throw release or a roll release?
@@DavidRenegar it’s actually a hybrid! Each golfer will feel something different. Some will feel they throw others roll. It is interesting it’s a 50/50 split on feel.
Best of luck Coach. Your health is everything! 🙏
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
How do you slow the upper body down from beating the hands? Focusing on keeping back to target?
@@DanielParlegreco Hi Daniel that is a great question. It is one of the difficult tasks that pros have mastered for the most part. They are truly never in a rush on the way down. If you could feel how soft their arms and wrists were as they “paused” in the transition you would be shocked.
Shorter the club the harder you swing ?
@@TheSwineheart I know I used the word harder in this video. I generally mean smoother or faster. I’m going to make a video on how to blend everything out.
Get and stay well. Love your videos.
I see it all working at the desk and watching the range. Generally ends up with a horrible slice or topping the ball. Way too many thoughts running around in the mind. L to L with a bit of an athletic swing will send it on a good path. Just send it and I'll bet you'll be happier 😊
Glad to see you up and swinging Coach Todd!
Yes, I am guilty! I will stop this 😂
Glad you are still making vids while battling your health issues. Thx, you are appreciated.
Thanks, coach, for all your help and videos your an inspiration to many people who play this game .... prayers and get well my friend
We’re pulling for you - coach
Hang in there. God has a plan for you.
I always warm up with this drill
We love you too. Prayers for you. Thanks for the videos.
Out of curiosity could you push your lead hip towards the target at setup and hold it through the swing and still get the same results? As long as the weight is forward at impact would it matter if you bumped your hips at the top of your back swing?
@@Jdb2013 you can but that gets into the SnT theory. IMHO and G.E.A.R.S. it will cost you distance.
Todd how can I get a lesson with you
I agree. I wonder what they think when they stare at the ball frozen. I’ve never seen a good player do that. I focus on the target, align myself correctly, and let my swing hit it. The less thinking after setting up, the better. Allow yourself to make all the moves you know to make the ball go to the target, and it happens magically.
Did a range session and a full round using the release method and drills. I’m getting a lot of fat and thin shots when I try this method.
@@wsujjs are your fundamentals on point? Grip, posture, ball position? You can send video of your swing to me.
I might need to talk to you next season about the draw part. Probably grip position? I can get a fade or rip it straight pretty much anytime. Getting a draw has been a skill I haven't mastered. If I can get that along backspin on the greens, I'd be pretty darn happy. Great stuff brother!
Nice swing. How far are those drives going? Looks slow but sounds crushed.
@@rickrocketts183 looks slow??
@@toddheuglyI guess should have said looks relaxed?
It does LOOK slow! I think a lot of us weekend warriors have misconceptions about how to generate speed. I definitely over rotate on the back swing because I physically can and my brain thinks that the more I turn and heave (for want of a better term) on it the harder I will hit it. The problem is I get all out of sequence and any extra energy I might create is lost and wasted at the wrong time. I've been doing tons of feet together shots recently because it stops me over swinging or spinning out too soon. It's hard to take it to the course though because it feels like such a short and easy swing.
@@robertcourt8593I agree 100% with everything you said.
So simple and it works. I killed it after watching your videos in October.
Great stuff Todd! Noticed on the driver set up your wrist is cupped. Is that intentional or your natural set up?
