Dante's Peak Filming Locales - Mirror Lake and More - Ep. 52

I continue to visit 'Dante's Peak' filming locations in, around, and outside of the town of Wallace, Idaho. The epic, varying locations include: Mirror Lake which was home to the grandmother's cabin, the iconic bridge in the film, Rachel Wando's home (Linda Hamilton) the town of Silverton where a brief scene involving a helicopter was shot, the exterior of the Pizza Stein Bar in Wallace, and th...

I visit Wallace, Idaho (a beautiful picturesque town with a total area of 0.84 square miles surrounded by forested hill sides) which is home to a large portion of the filming of 'Dante's Peak.' Glacier National Park - Hiking in the Off-Season - Ep. 49
Переглядів 963 місяці тому
The conditions of hiking in Glacier National Park in the Off-Season depends on what time of year you go. I went to the park in April 2024, the early spring. It had been a mild winter so there was no snow below the alpine levels. I highly recommend the LAKE MCDONALD TRAIL as its one of the few trails that will most likely be accessible in the off-season. I walked a large portion of this trail. I...

The Goonies Finale at Goat Rock Beach - Ep. 47

I visit the majestic Goat Rock Beach in Jenner, California. This is where the final scene of The Goonies (the scene in which the kids are reunited with their parents in the parking lot, the bad guys are arrested, and everyone witnesses One Eyed Willy's pirate ship, the Inferno, sailing off into the sunset on its final journey) was shot! I go over this location in detail - what it's like to driv...
The View From Mount Ozzard, British Columbia - Ep. 46

I hike to the summit of Mount Ozzard in the Resort Municipality of Ucluelet on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The view from the top is ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR! lol ok I have watched Dantes Peak what I figure has got to be a world record since I was a kid. I would watch it about 6 times a day all summer for several years and later as an adult many times online. I have not once not ever noticed the scene behind the stage when she is late. That sign says Wallace Printing Company on it. Did not register in my brain at all! Now it does and I can not unsee that.

    Caught an episode of Ice Road Truckers the other day, and one of them was travelling the Dempster Highway. It inspired me to start playing a song I wrote originally in 1979, after reading an article in the July 1979 Readers Digest about the highway. The article kind of blew my mind and I started imagining what it would be like, then wrote 2 or 3 verses, but never completed the song until 2020/21. I haven’t been playing it much lately, but seeing that has got me playing it almost every day. I’d play it for someone else if I could sing better than a toad.🤣

    Watched it again last weekend with a friend who had never seen it, she liked it. She said it was slow, but I convinced her that it had to be, I’ve had many of experiences that just needed to set in and be silent. One thing that always confused me was they were wearing clothes that would be miserable that time of year. Clearly it’s summer and the humidity and heat had to be high, they have on jackets and Bert is wearing a wetsuit vest!! My favorite line of as when Bert went the wrong way and one of the brothers said “it’s only the biggest river in the Fkn state!” Looking forward to part two.

    Those scenes in "Deliverance" looked dark and dreary. I have not watched it in a long time but I don't remember seeing much sunshine in it. There's a lot of beautiful fall foliage and sunshine in this video, but it looks like it can have a deep dark forest in parts of it I'm sure. They could have filmed on the cloudy days. Some of the scenes appeared to have taller cliffs along the river as well. I wonder how deep the movie crew had to go to haul a bunch of heavy equipment into that forest.

      I can't remember exactly to be honest but the Dempster Highway portion itself is average expensive i.e. gas, food from grocery stores, and accommodation. And the hotels along the way are similar in price range between, say, a Best Western and a Budget Inn. For some reason, Inuvik is almost always sold out for places to stay.

    man, I've really enjoyed this 3 series video! I'm inspired now to do the Dempster! A couple questions: 1) I'll be pulling a teardrop...what kind of camping opportunities along the way? 2) we'll be travelling with another couple (another vehicle)... how necessary is sat phone? 3) where did you get your sat phone... and approx how much $? I have subscribed!!

    • @walksofworld1981
      @walksofworld1981 5 місяців тому

      Hello! I'm so sorry I missed your comment here from 9 months ago now! Always forget to check the comments, my apologies! By this point, you've probably driven the Dempster three times already haha! But anyway, to answer your questions: 1). To me it seemed like there were a TON of camping opportunities along the way, basically all over the place. Though I'm not a camper myself, I got the impression that you can pull your camper off the road anywhere and pretty much camp wherever you want. There's literally nobody out there. 2). I personally think a satellite phone is VERY necessary because, you never know what kind of situation you'll be in and there is ZERO cell reception anywhere there, absolutely none. Better safe than sorry because, as is always the case, if you're prepared for an emergency, an emergency usually never happens (kind of like if you take an umbrella with you, it does not rain, and of course there'll be a downpour if you forget to bring one). I got the sat phone in Whitehorse Yukon, can't remember the name of the store, but anyone in town would know. The price seemed reasonable to me, I think it was like $115.00 for two whole weeks. Happy to answer any more questions you have and sorry to get back to you 2 million years late! Thanks for subscribing 🙂
