Battery Townsley, completed in 1940, was a casemated battery that mounted two 16-inch calibur guns, each capable of shooting a 2100 pound projectile 25 miles out to sea. It was strategically placed on a hill in the Marin Headlands to defend the entrance into San Francisco Bay. Join me as I visit this spectacular historic site and delve into the past. Glacier National Park - Hiking in the Off-Season - Ep. 49

The conditions of hiking in Glacier National Park in the Off-Season depends on what time of year you go. I went to the park in April 2024, the early spring. It had been a mild winter so there was no snow below the alpine levels. I highly recommend the LAKE MCDONALD TRAIL as its one of the few trails that will most likely be accessible in the off-season. I walked a large portion of this trail. I...

'Deliverance' Filming Locales - Chattooga River, Georgia - Ep. 34
This is so cool to see; I loved the movie as a kid!
Just went there again today and walked by the Russian river and the Pacific. SO beautiful and thanks for sharing the Goonies clips
The empty turnoff (3:56) is not where the gas station was, that is where the county store was. The gas station was on the other side of the river, where the RV park is, near where the county store is now
great video!
I enjoyed your three videos on the 'Deliverance' locations. In my younger life I spent a great deal of time, on the Chattooga and some time (much less) in Tallulah Gorge. "Deliverance" was shot with the help of three whitewater paddlers who then lived in the Atlanta area. One of the three shot much of the filming with a Super 8 mm (or maybe 16mm) camera and created a very interesting little film. Sadly, he died a few years ago. The other two paddlers live in western North Carolina. Paddlers divide the Chattooga into several sections. In '72, there were sections one through four, which were considered the only "navigable" sections. The sections' numbers followed their downstream order, but that order coincided with the difficulty and danger of the rapids. Section I -- the farthest upstream -- was almost entirely flat and of little interest to paddlers then. Section II has a few small rapids. Section III has several larger and more intricate rapids and culminates with "Bull's Sluice", its biggest rapid. Section IV begins just after "The Bull", is the most difficult, and terminates with Lake Tugaloo, as does the Chattooga itself. (The lake is the confluence of the Chattooga. and Tallulah rivers. The outflow of the Lake becomes the Tugaloo River, then, eventually, The Savannah.) Besides Bull's Sluice, most of the shots you took of the Chattooga were, I believe, on Section I or possibly Section II. Some of "Deliverance" may have been shot there, but they would have been very calm scenes early in the film, perhaps when the characters first put in the river. Most of the river scenes were shot on Section IV, and a few on Section III. Those sections are harder to access on foot, so it's understandable that none of the locations you shot were actually in the movie, except for the shots in Tallulah Gorge. Still, it was nice to see some areas I haven't been able to visit these past 35 years. Thanks. BTW, the movie "The Long Riders", filmed around the same time, also features scenes from the Chattooga. It is unlikely any more major films will use the Chattooga as it has been designated a National Wild and Scenic River and, therefore, vehicle traffic is restricted from its shores.
That’s not THE Chattooga River, that’s the West Fork as it passes by the USFS campground. You needed to drive another couple of miles, merge right onto 28 and you would’ve driven right over it. Close but no cigar my friend.
I think the gravel road he was driving on might be Burrell's Ford Rd. It crosses Chatooga at the SC/GA line.
He's below Burrell's.
How can I get involved?
Very well done.
Cool. I've hiked to the Nike Radar site on Mulholland in L.A. which is nice, but Hill 88 has the best view.
Where is the location of the station wagon and SUV driving to the river? I'd like to visit that spot. .. thanks for the vids!
Wow, what a show! Loved the Mustang and the Raptor flying in parallel and the shot of the foggy Golden Gate Bridge near the end. I sure wish I could have been there!
I just watched the movie Joy Ride and they muat have used stock footage from the movie
Beautiful shots! I will be putting Martha’s Vineyard on our vacation list. Maybe for my 50th. Love your vids!
So glad you are enjoying the videos amigo! Perhaps we can have a dual celebration on Martha's Vineyard :-)
Great video! Dante's Peak is one of my all-time favorite movies. I wonder if the brown traces on the right wall (visible at 3:35) next to the mine entrance are actually left over from the fake mine front in the movie?! The number of "jigsaw tiles" (3) matches up, and the outline does as well. But would those traces still be visible after almost 30 years, and would the wall never have been replaced? Who knows🤔
Over a year ago, my family moved to northern Idaho, in Kellogg. My husband worked in Wallace for a while! We still go there to eat and visit the kids park. Beautiful town.
Very cool! Yes it really is a picturesque town!
Awesome 👏
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed!
Awesome love the movie 🎥 great job on this one
Goonies never say die!!! ❤
Yes indeed!! Truth you speak :-)
lol ok I have watched Dantes Peak what I figure has got to be a world record since I was a kid. I would watch it about 6 times a day all summer for several years and later as an adult many times online. I have not once not ever noticed the scene behind the stage when she is late. That sign says Wallace Printing Company on it. Did not register in my brain at all! Now it does and I can not unsee that.
I hear you 100% there. Of all the locations in the town, that camera was the trickiest one to figure out. I watched the scene repeatedly, I couldn't tell which direction they were shooting in and finally the details of the background gave it away for me.
Except is says "Nallace" in the film, they painted over part of the W
Don’t know if you’ve seen it but they have just started ripping the insides out from the lobby. Whole food or pride Honda I think are going there. love living in seekonk
No way! Wow. I would have loved to have gotten inside the lobby, but it was all boarded up when we shot there.
fantastic video
Thank you so much!
Love your content! How do you not have more followers 🤷
Thanks amigo! Hahaha, I ask myself the same question! Workin' on it!
Where was the motel the Harry checked into when he first got there? Was it real?
I saw in another video it is not real. It was custers last stand. The sign is somewhere in town still but the building was in a parking lot. The same goes for the mine entrance. He actually walked over top of that in this video.
About 2/3 of it was an existing building, with facades added on to make it look like a motel
This short film makes me want to see "Deliverance" once again! Nice work!
You are so lucky to be able to go on such an adventure.
Great video Sam!
Enjoyed the video! Thank you!
Nicely done! I enjoyed watching.
Such a beautiful hike my friend! Fantastic scenery
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed :-)
That's awesome that they were able to get The Beatles to play there! Wow!!
Woohoo! Edmond, Oklahoma! Haha! Great video!❤
So the mud did not stick like cement basically, I’ve been told that the mud can ruin your vehicle.
Good stuff, I’m going to visit this next time I’m up that way
Keep up the great content! Excited to see your channel grow. Nice intro btw ;)
Excellent video, should have 1.4 mill views; gotta love that UA-cam algorithm 😂
Thank you so much! Hahaha, yes indeed I am still figuring out the UA-cam algorithm world 🙂
This was absolutely a fine review! Great job!
@RichieFischer glad you enjoyed! Such a cool place to visit!
Yup. They don't call it "Beautiful BC" for nothing. lol. I agree... I've been top to bottom on motorcycle.
That was either a huge black bear or a very black grizzly bear. Cool either way.
I did a motorcycle trip from Kelowna to Lillooet years ago. The "highway" in from Cache Creek was nuts. Cattle guards, dirty corners, and a single lane tunnel before town. Wicked views for sure.
Favorite part : you get a trail map AFTER you hike wherever the F you want. You're the best! and awesome you are reading fellowship and tying that in. That wood trail over the water tho... I absolutely wanted that view 1st person. Excellent Samwise!!
That whole area is an adventureland. They don't call it Beautiful British Columbia for nothin'... lol.
Caught an episode of Ice Road Truckers the other day, and one of them was travelling the Dempster Highway. It inspired me to start playing a song I wrote originally in 1979, after reading an article in the July 1979 Readers Digest about the highway. The article kind of blew my mind and I started imagining what it would be like, then wrote 2 or 3 verses, but never completed the song until 2020/21. I haven’t been playing it much lately, but seeing that has got me playing it almost every day. I’d play it for someone else if I could sing better than a toad.🤣
I love your videos, they are so well done. Thank you for sharing all of your travels with us!
Those were some sexy people you met in the pub there😅 thank you for sending me this! Nice way to show my family back home what my home here looks like!
All this nature walking, and you couldnt invite Meeeeee 🫣🤌😉😃
Watched it again last weekend with a friend who had never seen it, she liked it. She said it was slow, but I convinced her that it had to be, I’ve had many of experiences that just needed to set in and be silent. One thing that always confused me was they were wearing clothes that would be miserable that time of year. Clearly it’s summer and the humidity and heat had to be high, they have on jackets and Bert is wearing a wetsuit vest!! My favorite line of as when Bert went the wrong way and one of the brothers said “it’s only the biggest river in the Fkn state!” Looking forward to part two.
Those scenes in "Deliverance" looked dark and dreary. I have not watched it in a long time but I don't remember seeing much sunshine in it. There's a lot of beautiful fall foliage and sunshine in this video, but it looks like it can have a deep dark forest in parts of it I'm sure. They could have filmed on the cloudy days. Some of the scenes appeared to have taller cliffs along the river as well. I wonder how deep the movie crew had to go to haul a bunch of heavy equipment into that forest.
I prefer to see shots from the actual movie and then compare it to how it looks now. Not getting that in this video.
I live in wnc and i can tell you one really big mistake in that movie. our mountains are quiet. they dont sound like some african jungle with all kinds of crazy bird noises like in the scene with that one guy and his bow and arrow.
Awesome video buddy!!!!
