    TL:DR Folks Keep it stock if you just wanna cruise and chill with the occasional fun drive. Throw a decent tune, exhaust and serious coilovers and you basicly have supercar handling on these things. Also they can rev to 8000 and sound pretty special on a good exhaust. PS. No offense but your hand placement is terrible in the corners.

    I had a V60 D6 plug in hybrid. I loved and really hated the car at the same time. THANK GOD it was bought approved used from Volvo as it had major issues with the ISG and LRAD clutch kit, radiator failed and the ISG failed again…. Owned it for 2.5 years and had to return it to the finance company. At one point it went away for 5months while they sorted the ISG. All this being said. When this car was working wow it was comfy and a real pleasure to drive. I’d buy one again if the running costs were lower

    The mx5 has the interior quality and handling of a base model MK4 golf. The TT does not handle like a mk 5 golf with sports suspension, it turns in much quicker, admittedly there are sharper handling two seaters but the mx5 isnt one of them. Fun doesn't mean good handling, the body roll is ridiculous.

    Great review! I have a 08 V50 - very similar car to yours in a lot of ways. 200K miles and very reliable as well as everything you mentioned in your review of the V60. Everything works! Why would I upgrade to a newer version of something else? I think I'll keep going with it until it falls apart. No sign of that for now; it's driving perfectly and is an absolute workhorse. I do service it every 6K miles, though. Why not.

    Saying that a car that was designed to be small has the design flaw of being small is silly - it was DESIGNED to be small. If you want a large car, buy a large car! 🤣 Also, the remote boot release no longer working is not a design flaw; it's a reliability issue. This is significant because design flaws cannot be fixed, whereas the boot release can easily be fixed.

    • @petrolpoodle6617
      @petrolpoodle6617 25 днів тому

      I acknowledge that it's designed to be small and I love the purpose built nature of it. I'm just (fairly) observing that having driven other 2 seaters since, I realised how nice it is to have just that tiny bit more interior space. As for the design flaw - the design flaw comment comes to there's no boot release button. That is a design flaw. This allows the keys to be locked inside. I hope you enjoyed the rest of the video though

    • @elelegidosf9707
      @elelegidosf9707 24 дні тому

      @@petrolpoodle6617 Right - if _you_ want more space, that's not a design flaw of the car. Again, the boot release is not a design flaw, given that the car _was_ designed to have one. Many others have commented that their MX-5 came from the factory with a boot release, which was designed for the car. Not all trim levels are fitted with all equipment (my own car does not have a boot release, but higher-spec models of the same car do). This is not a design flaw; it's product segmentation.

    • @petrolpoodle6617
      @petrolpoodle6617 20 днів тому

      @@elelegidosf9707 You're saying that some models have a boot release button on the outside? I've never heard of this and believed they were all equally flawed. Just very strange, in the literally 100+ cars I've driven it's the only one to remove the most basic, useful thing. And therefore it's the only car that I've heard of people locking their keys in and having to smash their own windows to unlock the boot. Am I not allowed this opinion? I am glad to hear that if I've understood rightly that not all models are compromised by this, yes, design flaw. It's dumb. I'm not so sure why you're so riled up like I've offended you and your car personally, I'm just saying what it's like to live with the car over 2.5 years. The reality is that boot is small but in my first ever video of the car I say it's the best-selling sportscar for good reason - yes the size and weight. Just being realistic that over ownership there'll be times potential buyers will find they can't fit what they need in it for an ideal holiday without a boot bag.

    I would like to ask you for advice. I would buy a Volvo V60 and currently there are in the offer from 2018 D3 150hp with 145,000 miles and from 2016 D2 120hp with 95,000 miles. Can you recommend which one would be a better choice? Thank you!

    • @petrolpoodle6617

      Hello! Glad to help: I'm assuming we're talking about the same generation of V60 still before they facelifted to the new one (do let me know if I'm wrong though!). If they are identical transmission and we're only discussing engine differences I'd go for the D3. Even with 4 passengers it doesn't feel sluggish and I don't really ever crave more power. I understand the D2 is brilliant for 1 to 2 people but feels sluggish with a heavy load. It's also the Peugeot engine (which some people love, others think is unreliable but I personally understand it to be reliable). So the D3 still gets my vote but being the newer 4 cylinder it isn't AS reliable as my older 5 cylinder. Are they around the same value? Also if both are automatic, avoid the Powershift in the D2!

    • @branimirmomcilov7575
      @branimirmomcilov7575 25 днів тому

      @@petrolpoodle6617 Hello! Thank you very much for your response. D2 has a manual transmission and D3 has an automatic transmission. Both cars are facelifted models of the previous V60 generation. I've read that the engines in that generation have an issue with excessive oil consumption, so I'm not sure if that's been addressed in the 2018 models with the D3 engine. The specific car comes with the Summum equipment package and visually is in perfect condition; I'm just concerned if, with 145,000 miles, it might become problematic for further maintenance. Also, if the engine hasn't been regularly maintained until now, how good can it be in perspective with regular servicing?

    • @petrolpoodle6617

      @@branimirmomcilov7575 Ooo that's an interesting one! Well, my advice is to definitely buy an auto with the V60 (just not powershift) as many have agreed (including 2 friends of mine) that having nowhere to put your clutch foot with the manual isn't great for long distances. And the Aisin automatic gearbox really suits the nature of the comfy, relaxing cruiser that it is. As for long-term maintenance my advice would be to only buy a car with near-flawless service history if it has high miles. If there appears to be a year missing in the middle somewhere and maybe again a few years prior, I think I would accept that if the rest shows it's been properly cared for. I'm doing oil changes every 10,000 miles on mine instead of the 18,000 miles and I've recently now completed the gearbox service for peace of mind. I would like to imagine that their final model year of 2018 would have fixed oil consumption if they'd have 4 years of production to make changes :). I have no idea but just hopeful!

    I own a 1.8 Petrol one from 2010 since January 2024, and I love it so far! It's my first car, I'm having a lot of fun with it, it handles well in turns and is quite agile. The engine is working super smoothly, I can barely hear it. That's something you will never get from a diesel engine. I will share the things I don't like, though. The biggest "problem" is the suspension. It's not compensating for hardly any bump on the road. You just feel everything, especially with the rear. Not the best quality interiors, but it's a middle class vehicle, so I won't complain much. My car is 14 years old after all. You can hear some squeaks and other plastic sounds here and then while driving, but nothing too overwhelming. The model seems to suffer from minor electrical issues. The digital speedometer and the clock screen tend to loosen their connections, and they start to show 888, instead of the correct speed, and only parts of the info on the screen (time, AC, radio, etc). I need to push or hit them gently in order to "fix" the screen. Nothing too overwhelming as well. Probably I need to contact an electrician. The Radio Head Unit is faulty as well. It's changing modes on it's own, for example I'm using AUX and it just switches to Radio. After all, nothing that an aftermarket music upgrade wouldn't fix. I hope I helped. It's a great car, especially for a first. Totally recommend the model.

    Overall we've loved our 2015.5 V60CC. As you say, it fits a wonder niche -- not too small to be uncomfortable, not to big to be unweildy. In the US we didn't have as many engine choices and went with the T5 -- it performs great. Agree on the boot (or as we call it in wagons in the US, the "way back") The sunroof problem is a real issue but is easy to fix without spending 1000's on the official solution - cut small holes in the windscreen at the corners and the drains won't plug. There's an issue with all Volvo P3 bodies involving the piston o-rings. They leak and will consume oil faster than the oil change frequency. No bueno! Volvo had an after warranty recall that fixed this for us at no cost. There've also been issues with the timing belt shredding, which can cause the VVT cams to lock up resulting in top of cylinder damage. Many mechanics say to check or tighten or replace the tensioner every 60k miles to prevent this from occurring.

    Yep, still getting reviews. A very coherent and well presented list of points to consider when buying (or thinking of buying) one of these. I have a 30th anniversary and am looking at a 25th anniversary (NC3.75?) but would have to give up one of my Fiesta ST's for this. I would also need to convince Mrs L as well. The ND2 is soft top (great!) but I quite like the idea of a hard top one too. I really like this shape as well as the ND series I have. I am 6 ' 1" and fit into the ND so I assume I would fit into this also?

      Thank you very much sir! As my first ever UA-cam video I'm glad it stands the test of time though I'd probably deliver it ever so slightly softer today hahaha! And you would fit great if you're comfortable in an ND :)

    Now is the time? I've had my Stinger for 4 years already. Paid 36k brand new for the car in 2020. Very steep discounts on these cars during covid. I went the base awd gt route, which saved me a few thousand. Swapped in the nav and better screen out of the gt1/gt2 which only cost me $500 + sweat equity. Car has been nothing but reliable. Have only done routine maintenance and the $5 hatch rattle fix. I have replaced some tires though as i have a tendency to run over things, which isn't the cars fault. I run squared 18" G70 wheels with Blizzaks on it in winter. ❄️ A foot on April 1st 2023, the car did amazingly well. Ideally, I'd prefer to have a Grand touring model, cant beat the interior colors and the black exterior bits on the outside.

    • @petrolpoodle6617
      @petrolpoodle6617 25 днів тому

      It's very good but the high driving position does limit you for choices if you happen to enjoy sitting lower it's something to consider. I did own the car in total for 2 years or so, I was still comfortable (my friend is 6 foot 3 and he still owns the Type R version after 5 years or so) but now that I'm in my Volvo which sits lower, I am happier for sure. I'd take one on a long test drive if you can :)

    Really good review. I bought one of these recently, i had watched lots of reviews and your video helped cement the thought that i needed to buy one. I sold a 4.2 jaguar xj8 and bought one of these, and i absolutely love it, its so light and nimble and just so much fun to drive, yes it's a bit noisy compared to the Jag, but it's absolutely brilliant to drive. The only thing i might consider upgrading it with would be a newer Swift Sport.

      Glad it helped you pal! I totally agree! Whenever I jump back into my dad's car (this one featured) I'm immediately reminded how brilliant these are in the first few metres of driving. I just love them and they are genuinely more fun to drive than many cars which are more purpose built!

    Nice, but would pick a new MX5 over this (in Australia you could get 2 new mx5's for the price of a 10 year old f-type)

      @petrolpoodle6617 25 днів тому

      Wow! When you put it like that! Hahaha Funny you should say that, the owner of this F Type drove my Mk3 MX-5 (only had a shortened gearknob and fast road alignment different from standard) as hard as he could on some brilliant roads and he said it was in his top 3 drives ever! And he's rented all sorts of supercars and sportscars!

    How is it that no one is mentioning rust? Lovely to drive, fairly economical and reasonably quick. However if it disappears before your eyes what is the point? There's a whole industry trying to fight the dreaded tinworm on these, surely it is unacceptable in this day and age to have cars that rot so badly.

    • @petrolpoodle6617
      @petrolpoodle6617 25 днів тому

      I totally agree, it's completely unacceptable! I've mentioned it in my previous videos so I think I mentally ticked it off and forgot to say it again in this one. It's totally ridiculous, they've seen the Mk1 and Mk2 rust to the point of being scrapped so I just don't know why no changes were made to the Mk3 (even the Mk4 rusts!)

    Pause Button: press the thumb scroll on the wheel. I changed the old display with a 8,8" inch screen from taffio - specific for this model. old display is passthrough to new display. having a modern android auto will let me use this car for the years to come.

      Ooooooo! What model year car do you have? I know that the ones with Sensus Connect can be upgraded to Android Auto/CarPlay but I think my older one can't do it for some reason. I am perhaps just referencing one company that makes their unit for the Sensus and beyond models though

    • @petrolpoodle6617

      A good question! I think they know best about finding the true balance of a super comfortable daily car that can also be enjoyed on track - true! A car that keeps retired couples happy who just want to enjoy the roof down but also car enthusiasts throwing it around. However, the car has sooo much more potential if you happen to want to dial the experience up - and it's honestly astonishing how well it drives after modifications.

    Nice to hear it's been reliable for you! I'm thinking of replacing my 2008 Mazda 6 with a V60 T5 but I'm really doubtful concering the reliability seeing as my Mazda has been a real champ for the 3,5 years of owning it.

    • @petrolpoodle6617
      @petrolpoodle6617 25 днів тому

      Oooooo that's a tough one! I have loooved my Japanese car ownership experiences - such peace of mind let alone no surprises as a whole. The V60s are better than average for reliability but they also make me feel so much happier to just daily drive than my sensible Honda did. If you have £1000 spare for repairs I'd consider going for it - though I understand your age Mazda6 is really satisfying and more fun to drive, so quite a different experience. Go test drive one :)

    I owned a Swift GTi back in the 90's and it was a hoot to drive. Fab gear shift etc. I bought a used Mk.1 Swift sport in 2013 and have been driving it daily up until a week ago. It was a fantastic little car, was super reliable and cost me very little to run. However, I wanted something a bit newer and was seduced by the Hyundai i20N. It's the closest thing to the Swift Sport in terms of feel and fun factor with even more performance.

    Great review I’ve a beautiful looking v40 and like to suggest you can adjust both temperatures together, you will notice the temp on the screen you can adjust is underlined. To change this you just press the temp control button and the line under the temp will move from left to right or under both, this allows you to adjust both. Also not many people seem to know that the entertainment system will play DVD’s. The controls for dvd selection is the number panel in the console, 5 being the select button.

    • @petrolpoodle6617
      @petrolpoodle6617 25 днів тому

      Wooow that's great to know! Thank you! Are you sure this works for the V60 too? I know they introduced dual temperature controls for future Volvos. I'm away in another country at the moment so can't test but my memory tells me I don't have a temperature control button as such. It's just A/C on or off, Auto as a button, then the 2 control dials which don't press in. Well, the heated seats are the buttons you can press anyway. I'll see if I can give this a go. Also, who knew!? DVD player!
